    Navagraha

Navagraha refers to the nine celestial bodies or planets in Hindu astrology. These nine planets are believed to have a significant influence on human life and destiny. The Navagraha include:

    1. Surya (Sun)
    2. Chandra (Moon)
    3. Mangal (Mars)
    4. Budh (Mercury)
    5. Guru or Brihaspati (Jupiter)
    6. Shukra (Venus)
    7. Shani (Saturn)
    8. Rahu (North Node)
    9. Ketu (South Node)

Navagarhas are like sign posts, they foretell of things.

By praying them one would derive strength to tide over the problem with God’s Grace.

There are Navagraha Mantras for each Graha(planet).

There are two Slokas which deliver the result of worshiping all the Grahas.

In the following slokas, all the Grahas are worshiped in one sloka.

Choose any one of them and recite them 108 times daily.

Begin on any Sukla Bruhaspati vara(Thursday of the Waxing Moon.

  • Saneeswara Stotra By Dasaratha and More

Hindus believe that the Nine Planets foretell the future.

It is believed that one can appease them by performing Poojas and reciting Mantras,

Sani or Saturn is called Saneswara.

The Correct name is Sanaiswara(Sanaischara), one which moves slowly.

Some other names of Sanaischara) are ,

Shanaishcharaya, Pingala, Bhabru or Roudra. Pingala means bearer of the Trishul, the trident, Mandhan.

In Vedic Astrology, Shiva is said to be represented by Saturn.

    <img src="Saneeswara.jpg" alt="Saneeswara" />
    Lord Saneeswara

Saturn, like Shiva, strips away maya, the veil of illusion and separate self. Saturn takes aim at the imprinting we have experienced around separation

    consciousness.

Sani is the brother of  Yama , the God of Death and Righteousness.

Sani’s wives names are Mandhi Devi and Jyeshta Devi.

His sons are Mandhi and Kuligan.

It is wrongly believed that Sani indicates troubles.

He is a Man of Gnana, like Ketu.

He tests one with adversity and one who has the mental strength emerges stronger.

I believe that the Navagrahas do not by themselves cause prosperity or Adversity.

    They are like Traffic signals.

Like a Traffic Signal they indicate the directions your life might take, based on your actions. past and present, Karma Phala.

As such one has to withstand the pressures exerted by the Planets.

On this concept, the Vishnu Sahasranama has an excellent sloka.

    It calls Lord Vishnu as,

    ‘Dhukka bhukh, Dhukka Saadhana:’

Vishnu is the repository of  Dhukka, adversity , but,

He is also the One who grants you the strength, tools to overcome the trials and tribulations.

Hinduism is the only Religion which dares to call God as the repository of Adversity!

As such one can not escape the results of one’s actions .

What can be done is to pray the Navagrahas and God to grant the strength to overcome the difficulties.

Here are some Stotras on Saneeswara.

Rare , effective ‘Dasaratha’s Sanieeswara Stotra.

Saturn enters the star constellation (or nakshatra) – called Rohini once in every 30 years.

This is one of the most dreaded transits of the kings and their kingdoms.

The scriptures say “Kings will die and kingdoms will fall when Shani enters Rohini”.

It is said that during the reign of King Dasaratha when Shani was about to enter Rohini nakshatra, King Dasaratha worshipped Shani.

Pleased with the King’s prayers, Saturn did not enter Rohini during the reign of King Dasaratha.

Hence the Dasaratha Shani Stotras are considered an excellent remedy for Saturn related troubles.

  • Temple Of Ganesha With Skull Belt

It is very rare that one finds Lord Ganesha with Skull.

While in the South Ganesha is worshiped as a Celibate, Brahmachari, He is worshiped with two wives in the North India, Siddhi and Buddhi being His two wives, representing the Chitta and Discrimination.

Ganesha is shrouded in Tantra Shastra,

The Snake coiling around His Stomach, the shape of Lord Ganesha  in the form of Sanskrit letter OM are indicative of this.

Not many are aware that there is a Ganesha Upanishad.

And the Vinayakar Agaval by Avvaiyar is the expression of Yoga Sastra.

There is also a Temple for the Lord Ganesha with Skull.

Before going into this, let us see the Gaṇeśha statue of Singosari in Java.

Now in India we have a Temple in Tamil nadu at Thepperumanallur where Lord Ganesha is wears Skull as a belt!

It is One km from Thirunageswaram.

    This is a Siva temple.

  • Why No Navagraha In Vishnu Temples Moola Mantras

Navagrahas ,The Nine Planets of Hinduism play a vital part in a Hindu’s Life.

As soon as a child is born, the time and place of birth  is noted.

After the first birthday , the horoscope is cast.

At every stage the horoscope is consulted and  suitable course action is taken by the individual.

Horoscopes of the Boy and Girl are matched before getting them married.

There is an essential difference between the Shiva and Vishnu Temples in Tamil Nadu.

The Vishnu Temples do not have Navagraha Sannidhis or Enclosure.

In Shiva Temples separate Sannidhis are provided.

    ( Sannidhi means ‘being present)

However three are exceptions where Navagrahas are provided with Sannidhis in Vishnu Temples, where local legends have a say.

The Vaishnavism  believes that since on surrenders before the Supreme God, Vishnu, there is no necessity of any special attention to the Navagrahas.

Saivites takea practcal approach by saying that even if you know the CE)/MD of an Organisation, lower staff do matter.

    Hence Sannidhis for Navagrahas.

Moon is taken as a Planet.

    On the effect of Navgrahas.

Navagrahas, on their own,can not harm any one.

They are like Traffic Signals which inform you of things lying ahead and the suggested course.

They indicate the effects of your actions.

    Not prevent it.

God can grant you the power to withstand the malicious effects, can not change them

The reason for performing the Parihara, Atonement, is nothing but a Prayer to the God/Navagrahas to grant you Fortitude.

Though I believe in the accuracy of Indian Astrology which is more of scientific Astronomy, I do not bother about the Planets.

My conviction is my faith in Goddess Abirami, who, I trust implicitly, would take care of me.

An till date , she has.

Astrology depends on accurate Time,to 60 divisions of a second.

And I do not think we have such perfect time sense.

The Astrologer whom we consult may not be well versed, or may not speak the Truth for his/her own reasons,

  • Unexplained Facts About Puri, Jagannath

Some time back I came across a post listing some curious and inexplicable facts about Puri, Orissa, India.

I wanted to write about it and promptly forgot to book mark.

Now I am unable to find the post.

However I came across similar information form Iskcondivinetree.

It lists some curious facts about Puri.

    They are:

    Story:

    Mahaprasad, Puri
    Puri PrasadMahaprasad, Puri

Wonders of the Jagannath Temple in Puri are as follows::
1.Flag always flaps in opposite direction of air.
2.From any place in Puri you will always find the Sudarshan Charka (Charka at top of Temple) facing you.
3.Normally during day-time, air comes from sea to land & during evening, the vice-versa occurs. But in Puri it’s totally opposite.
4.No bird or planes fly above the Temple.
5.The shadow of the main dome is invisible at any time of the day.
6.The quantity of cooked food inside the Temple remains same for the entire year. But that same quantity of prasadam can feed few thousand people & 20 lac people, Still it won’t get wasted.
7.In the Temple kitchen, 7 pots are kept on each other & cooked on firewood. In this process the contents in the top pot get cooked first & then the bottom one.
8.After entering from Singhadwara’s first step (from inside of the Temple), u can’t hear any sound produced by the ocean. But, when u cross the same step (from outside of the Temple) u can hear it. This can be noticed clearly during evening.

As to the second “wonder” about that you will always find from any place of Puri the Sudarshan Charka (Charka at top of Temple) is facing to you, it is not right. I have many photos taken from many angles of the Sudarshan Charka in Puri, and I can see that Chakra is facing to different sides depending on from which side those photos are taken.

As to the shadow of the main dome is also the same: you can see from those photos that in the sunny day the shadow is clearly visible around that main dome. However, these facts do not in any way diminish the spiritual nature of the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu! We don’t have to look for some physical evidences to prove the spiritual nature of the Sudarshan Chakra.

Does this mean that that the other features check out?

People residing in Puri may confirm this.

I had earlier posted some facts pertaining to Benares,Varanasi.

    • Flowers do not smell
    • Cows  do not knock you even if you touch them
    • Eagles(Golden Eagle) Will not Fly over
    • Corpses will nor Smell (while being burnt)
    • Lizard(common Lizard) will not  make sound.

Varanasi,Kasi is an important pilgrimage Center for the Hindus.”

I requested for feed back on the veracity of this.

    Yet to receive the feedback.

    Varanasi. please respond.

Let me add some more to this list.

    Suchindrum,Kanyakumari District,Tamil Nadu.

Here all the three divinities Brahma, Vishnu and Siva are in the same Idol.

    Thanumalayan Temple Goprum.
    Stanumalayan Temple,Tamil Nadu.

The holy place, which is 13 km from Kanyakumari, has a very big temple dedicated to the Trinity — Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. According to tradition, the top, middle and bottom portions of the image in the temple represent Siva (Sthanu), Vishnu (Maal) and Brahma (Ayan) respectively.

The place got the name of Suchindram, according to the Sthalapurana, as Indra was relieved of a curse. The term “Suchi” means purifying and the place where Indra was purified got the name of Suchindram. According to the believers, Indra even now visits the temple daily for performing “Ardhajama Pooja” in the night.

Another fact I came to know is that , if you insert a long iron string in the left ear of the Anajaneya Idol, it comes out through the other ear!

    Navapaashanam, Ramanatahapuram District, Tamil Nadu.

Dharpasayanam/Thirupullani is a place where Lord Rama is reported to have worshiped the Lord Varuna, God of water and Navapaashanam is where Rama  worshiped the Navagrahas before embarking on this journey to Srilanka to annihilate Ravana.

The Navagrahas are represented in stones in the sea, amidst water .

Whatever be the season and tide condition, the Navagrahas never get submerged though the area around it are, despite the ground level where these Navagrahas are located are at the same level.

The food is prepared in earthen soiled pots, which resembles to French sauté pans. These pots are kept one over the other on an earthen furnace. The most interesting aspect of this cooking is that the topmost pot is cooked first and then the next below it. When the food is cooked, the wall of the pots gets hot and provides heat retention. Due to this, food remains hot for atleast 5-6 hours and tastes yummy. –
