There has been strikes, Bandhs galore in Tamil Nadu on the issue of power supply in the State.
There has been a power shortage for some time now and the power cut for an hour in Chennai and 8 hours in other cities.
This has resulted in reduced industrial output forcing many industries especially in Tiruppur where major Hosiery Units are located.
Exports are affected and lay off’ threatens workers.
The Government is trying its best to supply power;but the demand exceeding available supply, further allotment from the Central pool not coming through and the agitation against commissioning of the Nuclear Power Plant in Kudankulam the Government is in a bind.

There has been a suggestion that instead of enforcing power cut in fits and starts ,to declare two Days,Saturday and Sunday, with out Power.
I am not sure if this is possible.
To my understanding, power can not be saved and distributed.
Can some body enlighten me on this?
Under the circumstances it is ridiculous to go on agitating and enforcing bandhs as none of this can solve this problem.
Conserving power and increasing power production is the solution.
-optimum utilization of the existing power stations.
-get more from the Central Pool.
-commission more projects’
-Prevent Power Loss and Theft.
-Conserve power by judicious use .
Why should people do some thing

stupid?

“78 lakh families hurt by power cut”; “Government departments, local bodies owe huge dues to TANGEDCO”
Around 4,000 industrialists, entrepreneurs and workers from micro, small and medium enterprises staged a protest near the TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) office at Kappalur on the Madurai-Tirumangalam highway on Tuesday, demanding that uninterrupted power supply must be ensured and the spate of unscheduled power cuts must be put to an end.
Spearheaded by Kappalur Industrial Estate Manufacturers’ Association, whose members downed their unit shutters for the day, several major trade and bodies from Madurai and the southern districts took part in the agitation. Besides raising slogans that the operations at small units were severely affected by the power cuts, the agitators questioned the rationale behind uninterrupted power supply being provided to multinational corporations and giving special treatment to Chennai which faced only an hour of load shedding every day while the rest of the State reeled from eight to ten hours of power cuts.
