Tamil Nadu Government Servants enjoy 189 Holidays a year.
The Government staff normally arrive at least by half an hour;take about 30 minutes to settle down; Coffee break before Lunch is for 15 minutes;Lunch takes about 90 minutes, post Lunch siesta 30 minutes; Coffee break 30 minutes;post Coffee break 15 minutes;preparing to go Home 30 minutes.
Total 4.30 hours.
The time I have taken for calculation is the minimum.
This does not include time spent in searching files, going to other Departments,In-Discussion,normal chit chatting across the table with colleagues.
3.5 hrs per day into 189 days work out to roughly 89 Days taking into account working tome of 8 Hrs /day.
This means Goverment Servants in Tamil Nadu work(?) 100 Days a year.
Bonus is announced?
Please correct my arithmetic, if wrong.
CHENNAI: The list of holidays this year may be getting longer for everyone, but no one’s going to be away from work for as long a period as a Tamil Nadu government employee. With the state increasing the number of public holidays in the year to 25, TN’s list is now among the longest in the country. West Bengal comes close behind with 24 and Kerala with 23, followed by Karnataka with 21 and Maharashtra with 19. Andhra Pradesh staff have 17, same as Central governmentemployees.
TN added one more day to its list with the Tamil New Year on April 13 being the extra holiday. After returning to power, chief minister J Jayalalithaa has reverted to the practice of marking the first day of Tamil month Chithirai (middle of April) as new year’s day.
To boot, there are 53 Sundays and 52 Saturdays in 2012 when a TN government employee would usually not be at work. He or she can also avail of 30 daysprivilege leave, 12 days of casual leave, 15 days of sick leave and two restricted holidays. Some public holidays overlap with weekends, but all in all, a government employee can choose not to go to work for as many as 181 days, which is virtually half the year.
On the issue of Mullaiperiyar Water Storage issue with Kerala wanting to reduce water level and Tamil Nadu opposing it and the passions in the two States running very high to the extent of people of each State resorting to violence, the present order by the Supreme Court asking Tamil Nadu not to quote its Court’s oral observations in Advertisements and Kerala not to incite passions, is stupid,to say the least.
‘The bench also castigated Tamil Nadu for misusing the apex court‘s earlier orders and oral observations through huge newspaper advertisements and also declined to entertain its plea for restraining Kerala leaders from making any statements on the dam row.
“How can we stop them with a gag order. Kindly see your prayer. How do we issue such a gag order. If somebody wants to protest he can.
“You are issuing press advertisements. Even our oral observations are being mentioned in the advertisements. It is very unfortunate. You must have had some senior counsel’s assistance while issuing the advertisements,” the bench remarked.
“Court proceedings should not be used for settling political scores. This is a sacred institution, the sanctity must be maintained.
“The chief executive of the state government makes use of the observation of the court proceedings. It may not be proper when the matter is subjudice,” the bench told senior counsel Raju Ramachandran, appearing for Tamil Nadu.
“Though there is nothing substantive involved in the controversy both sides are inciting.
“Ultimately the safety of the people is paramount. We cannot compromise on the safety of people. Even one life is important. Why for that matter even the life of an animal or even the forest is important,” the bench observed while asking Tamil Nadu to ensure that the water level did not breach the 136 feet fixed by it in its earlier order.
The apex court said Kerala’s fears of the dam’s collapse from possible quakes cannot be brushed aside lightly.
“It (water level) has exceeded 136 feet. It cannot be without basis. You have to ensure it does not exceed. You are bound by it. You cannot permit it to go beyond 136 feet.
Between 26 November and December 5 it has gone up,” the bench remarked.
The much hyped Tamil film ‘Ezham Arivu‘ talks about a Pallava Prince,Bodhi Dharman, who goes to China, teaches them martial arts and indigenous medicine and he is revered as a God in the Shaolin Temple in China.
In the euphoria surrounding the legend people do not seem to have bothered to check History.
Simha Vishnu of the Dynasty founded the Pallava Kingdom in Tamil Nadu with Kanchipuram as his Capital.
To claim others success as one’s own is reprehensible whether it is by an individual or by an ethnic community.
There are innumerous instances of facts where people of Tamil origin scaled great heights and set a standard for the world to follow.
In fact the Ramayana and the Mahabharata speaks highly of the great King Udiyan Chralaathan, also called ‘Perunchotru Udiyan’ for he fed both the Pandava and Kaurava Armies during the Mahabharata war.
These Epics also speak of the Chola and Pandya Kings and Arjuna is reported to have married a Pandya princess.
They also speak of the wealth and culture of Tamils.
‘Dravida’ is a name ascribed to Tamil people who were inhabitants of the area south of the Vindhyaas, extending up to and including Australia.
Sage Viswamitra banished his sons away to this area, thinking that this area was inhabited by barbarians.
His sons and their progeny found this place to be far superior in Culture than Vedic culture and hence they combined the best of the Vedas and practices of the Tamils and evolved a compendium to be followed by people who live South of Vindhyaas.
This is ‘Aapasthamba Sutra’ which is followed by Brahmins even today.( Aapasthamba compiled it)
The Pallava dynasty(Tamil: பல்லவர்) was a dynasty of South India which ruled the northern Tamil Nadu region and the southern Andhra Pradeshregion with their capital at Kanchipuram. They had established themselves as a notable rising power in the region between 275–350 AD.
After a careful study of Pallava genealogy with all the available material, of no less than 45 inscriptions, Rev H Heras put forth the theory that there was an unbroken line of Pallava kings, twenty-four of them in number, who originally ruled at some city of the Telugu country, possibly at Dasanapura, which the Darsi copper plates state as their adhisthana.[1] Dasanapura has been identified as Darsi, in Nellore district.[2][3] The Pallavas were at first a Tamil power.[4] The earliest inscriptions of the Pallavas were found in the districts of Bellary, Guntur and Nellore.[5]
The Pallavas captured Kanchipuram from the Cholas as recorded in the Velurpalaiyam plates, around the reign of the fifth king of the Pallava line Kumaravishnu I. Thereafter Kanchipuram figures in inscriptions as the capital of the Pallavas. The Cholas drove the Pallavas away from Kanchipuram in the mid-4th century AD, in the reign of Vishugopa, the tenth king of the Pallava line. The Pallavas re-captured Kanchipuram in the mid-6th century, possibly in the reign of Simhavishnu, the fourteenth king of the Pallava line, whom the Kasakudi plates state as “the lion of the earth”. Thereafter the Pallavas held on to Kanchipuram till the 9th century AD, with the last king having been Vijaya-Nripatungavarman.
I have selected the version of “Mahabharatha” translated into English Prose by “Mr Kisari Mohan Ganguli” from the original Sanskrit Text of Sage Viysa, and published by Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers (Pvt) Ltd, New Delhi, India, from which the following have been extracted.
——————————————————
[1] “…….Dhritarashtra (i.ee.Thiritarasra) said, ‘Hear O Sanjaya the celestial feats of Vasudeva feats that Govinda achieved and the like of which no otheer person hath ever been able to achieve……The mighty Krishna also slew the valiant king of Chedis…….all these he vanquished in battle. The Avantis……the Cholas, the Pandyas……as also Sakas, and the Yavanas with followers were all vanquished by him ……..’
MAHABHARATHA – DRONA PARVA, PAGE 23.
Observation:
From the above it is noted that Lord Krishna defeated the Cholas and Pandyas in a battle prior to Baratha war .
[2] “……..When that host was being thus struck and slain by heroic warriors, the Parthas headed by Vrikodara advance against us. They consisted of Dhrishtayumna and Sikhandin, and the five sons of Draupadi, and the Prabhadrakes, and Satyaki, and Chekitana with the Dravida forces, and the Pandyas, the Cholas, and the Keralas, surrounded by a mighty array, all possessed of broad chests, long arms, tall statures an large eyes. Decked with ornaments, possessed of red teeth, endued with the prowess of infuriate elephants, attired in robes of diverse colours, smeared with powere scents, armed with swords and nooses, capable of restraining mightty elephants, companions in death, and never eserting one other, equipped with quivers, bearing bows adorne with long locks, an agreeable in speech were the combatants of the infantry files led by Sayaki, belonging to Andhra tribe, retinue with fierce forms and great energy. Other brave warriors such as the Chedis, the Panchalas, the Kaikayas, the Karushas, the Kosalas, the Kanchis, and the Maghadhas also rushed forward……..”
From the above it is very clear Pandyas, Cholas, Keralas who were the Cheras, the Kanchis undoubtedly the Thondaimandala kings whose capital was at Kanchi. all fought on the side of the Pandavas. The above also describes of the warriors from the Tamil countries, their forces, valour, and armoury.
[3] “…….I behold the Ganga, the Satudru, the Sita, the Yamuna, and the Kausiki, the Charmanwati, the Vetravati, the Chandrabaga, the Saraswati, the Sindhu, the Vipasa, and the Godavari, the Vaswokasara, the Nalini and the Narmada, the Tamara, and the Venna also of delightful current and sacred waters, the Suvenna, the Krishna-venna, the Irama, and the Mahanadi, the Vitasti, O great king and that large river Cavery, the one also O tiger ! among men the Visalya and the Kimpuna also……”
MAHABHARATHA – BY K.M.GANGULI, VANAPARVA, PAGE 381
Observation:
From the above it is noted that in the days of Mahabaratha the river Cavery river would have been very wide with more flow of water as the pronoun “large river” is only used to river Cavery, when many of the other rivers of India was being referred simply as rivers in Mahabaratha.
[4] “Markandeya said `O bull of the Bharata race even Rama suffered unparalled misery, for the evil minded Ravana king of Rakshasas, having recourse to deceit and overpowering the vulture Jatayu forcibly carried away his wife Sita from his asylum in the woods. Indeed Rama with the help of Sugriva brought her back, constructing a bridge across the sea, and consuming Lanka with his keen-edged arrows……..”
The Koodankulam Atomic Power Station is ready for operation.
This is built with Advanced Technology and safety standards with Russian Know how and the design is functioning well in many parts of the world including Scandinavian countries.
The project, being established at a cost of Rs.16,000 Crores near Tuticoriin,Tamil Nadu has been under construction/commission for the past 10 years.
Now suddenly out of the blue a group comes out stating that the plant is not safe, quoting Fukushima Disaster, which was triggered by Tsunami in Japan.
Koodankulam has been secured with adequate and possible precaution to ward off any calamity of the nature Fukushima.
However, the hazards associated with any Nuclear plant exists.
On this ground one can not object to a nuclear plant.
The argument by one Udaya Kumar, who seems to have sprung up suddenly, does not contain any information for his misgivings on the safety of the Koodankulam plant excepting a vague statement that the Plant will be hit by a tsunami and that people will be affected by Nuclear radiation.
He is unable to lay any specific problem excepting to raise the voice and rhetoric.
Tamil Nadu political parties without knowing what the whole issue is about are supporting him.
Especially Weeping Vaiko, is raising temperature without any fact at his disposal and is appealing to Tamil sentiment.
After the entry of Dr.Abdul Kalam who has inspected the facility and his measured analysis of the Safety at the Nuclear Plant, there seems to be some semblance of sanity among the mob crying for shut down of the plant.
Note that after the intercession by the Church to its parishioners to keep away from the controversy, the tone of the protesters has become measured.
Also worth noting is the fact that Koodankulam is Russian designed and not by US/France.
An Inter-Governmental Agreement on the project was signed on November 20, 1988 by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Soviet PresidentMikhail Gorbachev. The project remained in limbo for 10 years due to political and economic upheaval in Russia after the post-1991 Soviet breakup, and also due to objections of the United States on the grounds that the agreement does not meet the 1992 terms of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
There are negotiations over the possible addition of a naval base at the site, both safeguarding the project and as a presence in the southern tip of the country. A small port became operational in Kudankulam on January 14, 2004. This port was established to receive barges carrying over sized light water reactor equipment from ships anchored at a distance of 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi). Until 2004 materials had to be brought in via road from the port ofTuticorin, risking damage during transportation.
In 2008 negotiation on building four additional reactors at the site began. Though the capacity of these reactors has not been declared, it is expected that the capacity of each reactor will be 1000 MW or 1 GW. The new reactors would bring the total capacity of the power plant to 9200 MW or 9.2 GW.
In June 2011, Sergei Ryzhov, the chief designer of the light water VVER nuclear reactors used at this Nuclear Power Plant was killed in an airplane accident. The plane belonging to the Rus-Air airlines was flying from Moscow to the Karelian capital Petrozavodsk.
Technical description
Two 1 GW reactors of the VVER-1000 model are being constructed by the Nuclear Power corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Atomstroyexport. When completed they will become the largest nuclear power generation complex in India producing a cumulative 2 GW of electric power. Both units are water cooled water moderated power reactors.[11] The first was scheduled to start operation in December 2009 and the second one was scheduled for March 2010. Currently, the official projections put unit 1 into operation in June 2011, and unit 2 will go in March 2012.
i got a mail that, A few years ago US sent a satellite which kept revolving round our globe whenever it crossed right above the spot of Thirunallaar ( East Coast Divine place of Tamil Nadu) it staggers, moves forward very slowly for a while ! NASA observed it and was puzzled! It is also said that during the SANI- PEYARCHCHI , a most sacred festival of the place, say once in 30 months , a very dense UV rays falls from the Space on the place ( it seems there is always a greater flow of UV rays compared to the quota received by any other part of our earth at that place ; and during the said festival the density gets more!) No explanations from the Scientists. Is this true?
