  • How To Discern A University College

Formal Education , in my opinion, is to make a Living, despite views that it really helps one in building one self to face Life.

It prepares one to face life on the economic front.

Education India .Logo.png Education India .Logo.

But for other important aspects of Life one has to follow some basic principles of Humanity, like Humanitarian approach, respect for others and their views, pride in one’s country,Culture, History, welfare of others and the society one lives in by forsaking  comforts, tolerance,Compassion for all living beings,Integrity, Honesty, Loyalty and above the mental resilience to face the problems thrown by Life.

This can be achieved by value based education which can be found in the culture one belongs to or born into.

However this does not mean to say that the present formal education system is without merit for unless one feels economically comfortable, he would find it very hard to follow any moral values, such is the pressure of poverty.

And we have, like every thing else , the Job market and consequently the course one chooses changes periodically.

When I was entering college, about fifty years back, the popular Course was B.Com and the most coveted job was in a Bank, which can be had by writing the Bank Entrance Examination.

Then came Engineering, B.E. mania when people rushed to Engineering colleges, even if  child does not it or  the parents could not afford it.

In the mad rush all other courses were left behind.

    The came the IT wave.

Every one was rushing to IT courses to such an extent even an unqualified Coaching Centre was minting money.

Now the things have come to a full circle.

One finds engineering colleges being sold (in Tamil Nadu at least) with about 64,000 Engineering seats remaining vacant!

The current trend is Commerce especially B.Com.

In this topsy-turvy yoyo ,Medicine remains still the favourite.

Medicine remains till date the same sought after course despite qualified Doctors finding it difficult to find Jobs.

Another issue is to find a course , university and college.

Notwithstanding the unwritten practice of Educational institutions not advertising( this was prevalent till about 50 years back),

we now find Educational Institutions advertising heavily, most of the information in the advertising copy is purely  a product of the copy writer’s vivid imagination.

Now even coaching centres call themselves Educational Institutions and even tutorial Colleges.

By the way can some one tell me the difference between the two?

Possibly the former coaches all, the latter the failed Ones!

Then you come across the competition among the Universities!

Under these circumstances, it becomes difficult to sort out fact from fiction.

What one needs is a comprehensive list of Courses, Universities, Colleges,Various disciplines one can choose from.

Plus an insight into Course content, current changes in the structure of the Syllabus, Job trends, and scholarship details is necessary.

    And Common Entrance Examinations.

I have been watching the news on this and I have not written much about education recently as I have been writing articles on Indian History and Culture  .

I propose writing  more on Education in future.

While keeping a watch on the information relating to choosing a course, University,Colleges, Syllabus changes and other information I have detailed above, I found collegedunia.com to be quite informative.

    Apps is also available.

Out of curiosity I checked their List of Colleges for Medicine in Kolkata based on Ranking.

  • Cricket Coaching Online.

I belong to school that believes certain talents are in born,, at best can never be learned, though they my be channelized and improved upon.

    For example, Acting, Singing, Wring.

    Sachin Tendulkar
    Sachin Tendulakar, God of Cricket

With so many Schools ,Academies for Acting has the world produced a Marlon Brando,Sir Lawrence Olivier, Sivaji Ganesan,Dr.Raj Kumar,Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar to name a  few?

How many Muhammad Rafis,Kishre Kumars, Mukeshs,Manna Dey, Lata Manngeshkar ,Asha Bhonsle?

    The same  applies to Ports.

    We have few legends, Sachin Tendulkar,Sunil Gavaskar,Sobers, Brian Lara,Ian Botham,Clie Rice;Pollock Brothers,Lloyd,Kanhai,Don Bradman,Lille,Bishen Bedi,Allan Donald?

No doubt these greats were coached but there was material to be improved upon.

Otherwise whoever attends an Academy would have become a  Legend!

I had a reader requesting me for a coaching the comments column on a Post of Cricket Field positions.

I advised that it is better to seek a coach in person and I am not a qualified even to recommend.

However, I searched, found a Link and posted.

Later I thought, whatever my views are , the site may be useful to readers.

Who knows, by reading Online , with discipline, hard work and interest we may get a cricketing Legend!

    Story:

10 Ways to improve your cricket through practice

    1. Action/Reflection. As Darren says: Do and then analyse what you did. After every game and practice take some time to sit down and ask yourself: What did I do well? What can I work on to stop myself doing things badly?
    2. Set Yourself Assignments. I equate this to goal setting. Knowing what you are aiming for keeps you on track. There is a world of difference between “I want to get loads of wickets this season” and “I got 40 wickets last year, I will get 50 this year”.
    3. Use Different Mediums. To get a deeper understanding ofthe game you could play in many formats (20 over, 50 over, indoor) or you could play a totally different sport just to get a feel for understanding the challenges of all sports rather than just cricket.
    4. Be a Guest. This is a tough one. Playing for other teams than your usual club will make you think more about your game. I have played for three clubs in my time, and each one has set a new challenge to me. Playing against your own club really makes you think!
    5. Ask for Criticism. Many players want to improve but feel to proud or afraid to ask. I would argue that you should try and get as much feedback as you can from anyone who will talk to you. As long as you take the comments with a pinch of salt and are prepared to listen, review and ignore the advice if it won’t work for you.
    6. Analyse Others. I wouldn’t recommend going about trying to coach other people willy nilly (unless you have their respect as a coach), but you can watch others and see if you can spot their errors. You can also learn from watching top players on TV or at first class matches.
    7. Speak. The closest we get in cricket to reading out loud is self-talk. It’s not quite the same, but it is a vital tool for anyone wanting to improve their game and something you need to practice as much as a cover drive or googly.
    8. Criticise Yourself. With cheap video cameras available you could easily tape yourself in the nets or in the middle for a bit of post-game analysis.
    9. Get a Coach. A good coach will work with you to pin down your weaknesses. Even a few sessions can make a huge difference. In the UK most first class counties offer one-to-one sessions take advantage.
    10. Take a Course. The best thing I did to improve was to go on an ECB coaching course. It challenges, stimulates and fills gaps you never knew you had. If you only to one thing on the list, then do this one.
