There is a vital difference between Karzai and Zardari.Karzai may be incompetent and is facing tough clan resistance, Zardari is an unwilling ,incompetent and leader(?) foisted on the people of Pakistan by skullduggery. He can not afford to go after militants as he is not sure of Army and Nawaz Sharief and their possible positions.Under the circumstances , aid to Pakistan will only be a charity- worse still breed more militancy.
As for as Karzai is concerned he needs money as well as hard ware to meet the threat.
But Pakistan needs both to fuel militancy as the political and army equations compel those in power over there to be what they are.

Contract mercenaries to fight AlQueda.
Jihadis are an unconventional menace. There is nothing wrong in adopting any tactic to weed them out.If you want Good to prevail, sometimes it is necessary to initiate action that may not stand moral scrutiny.Your reaction depends on the adversary. The concept of means justifying ends is perfectly valid here.

Good Terrorist!?
Just as there is not a good terrorist and a bad terrorist, so is Taliban.Engage in talks with them; it shall give them time to regroup, as has been proved in the case of LTTE.There is no parallel in History( except IRA, where the issue was different) when terrorism has been brought to heel by negotiations.Insurgency is a wrong word to use for Taliban. They are terrorists, amoral and anti social.Let us not repeat the mistake of Chamberlain with Hitler.Solution is -crush them militarily-definitely it is a tall order, but this is the only solution.Look at LTTE.

US on Elections in Afghanistan.
Germane to the issue is , should US be involved in this at all? Nations can govern themselves.Let US concentrate on governing USA , address issues of healthcare, unemployment, economic down slide.US energy is dissipated on non productive- so called initiatives- which, as records show , have only brought misery, disrepute and hatred for America world wide.

Afghanisthan.
What is the purpose of engagement? To win a war, for territory or for economic gains or for defending one’s country. In the case of Afghanistan, you are trying to defend your country from terrorists who have no borders and they are mingled with the local population.Do we hope to identify them and wipe them out in their country?.Impossible.The country where they are from can do it much better. You shall be losing men for a non winnable war. Again this non sense of statistical classification of the suffering of soldiers-dead,injured, seriously injured and further finer classification. This is not an academic exercise;people are dying and are injured,Quit Afghanistan as no occupying force has been able to achieve that in the history of Afghanistan..Beef up UK’s internal security , pressure Afghans to act and supply them hardware. That’s it. Period.
