Correct move.
The News Channels have been saturating Air-lime with World Cup even after the Event is over, mostly I feel, without permission.
They have earlier pressured the Union Government to lean on the ICC to revoke the ban on Accreditation to News Channels imposed by ICC for breach of Contract.
If the Channels were insulted /aggrieved they should have boycotted.
They never would, for they want TRP at other’s expense.
This is not the first time or shall be last time News Channels behave like this.
Are they airing Cricket because it is THE news worthiness alone?
How many social issues go unreported?
Had it been a breach of contract by some one against their News Channel would they tolerate it?
A Contract is a Contract.
TRP Talks,Advertisement Revenue talks.
Story:
The International Cricket Council today decided to begin legal proceedings against offending Indian news channels who have repeatedly breached the News Access Guidelines for Broadcasters for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Despite a lengthy meeting at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in New Delhi, the National Broadcasters Association (NBA) and the Broadcast Editors Association (BEA) refused to give assurances that they would desist from breaching the broadcast guidelines in their news programming.
Accordingly, the ICC has decided to commence legal action against the companies involved and will also seek to recover damages through the courts in India rather than bar the stations from the ICC Cricket World Cup final.
Haroon Lorgat, the ICC Chief Executive, said: “I am very disappointed that it has come to this, however, we need to do everything to protect our exclusive commercial rights and those of our partners. If that means we have to resort to legal action, that is regrettable but necessary.
“At the Ministry’s request, we travelled to New Delhi to meet with the NBA and BEA in an attempt to resolve the issue but they were unfortunately not willing to conform to the guidelines agreed with the ICC prior to the event.

Coverage of the World Cup in the Indian electronic media has come under a cloud with the ICC on Monday barring non-rights-holding channels from access to the remaining matches for alleged breach of its accreditation rules and guidelines. The channels will be barred from practice sessions and the press conferences related to the three remaining matches, including Wednesday’s semi-final between India and Pakistan in Mohali, unless they sign a written undertaking that they will adhere to the ICC guidelines.
“The channels have violated the terms and conditions of the accreditation agreement and news access guidelines they signed up to at the start of the tournament,” an ICC spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo. “Their accreditations have been deactivated.” It is believed that at least 40 leading channels will be affected.
