FAIR Work Australia has ordered the reinstatement of an employee who was sacked for telling his boss to “get f … ed”.
Security guard Craig Symes was sacked from Linfox Armaguard last year after he told his manager to get f … ed, complained about the “f … ing roster” and then aggressively poked a notice board – all while carrying a loaded gun.
Symes, who had worked with the Brisbane firm since 2000, cracked during a monthly meeting last December after having a fight with his wife before work. “He was frustrated with his wife and, in hindsight, should not have come (to the meeting),” FWA heard.
He abused manager Aryn Hala after being assigned to a faulty armoured van and stormed out.
Symes later apologised in writing but was sacked the next day.
FWA ruled Symes’ behaviour amounted to misconduct but found his dismissal was harsh.
While finding swearing at a person was “of a different character” to swearing at an object, or as an adjective, FWA Commissioner Helen Cargill said it was “also relevant to consider the evidence that the respondent’s workplace is one in which bad language is commonly used and in which … employees may have received mixed messages about such use”.
She said the swearing was not “overheard by other employees which could have undermined Mr Halas’ authority”.
Ms Cargill ordered the company reinstate Symes with back pay – less six weeks pay as a penalty.
“An auction house has called off the sale of a vial of blood said to be from Ronald Reagan after the late US president‘s foundation and his family expressed outrage.
Online bidding had reached about $30,000 (£19,136) when the auction was cancelled.
In a statement the auction house said the seller had obtained the vial legally at a US auction earlier this year for $3,550 (£2,264).
The decision to cancel the auction has been praised by the foundation.
Its executive director John Heubusch said: “We are very pleased with this outcome and wish to thank the consignor and PFC Auctions for their assistance in this matter.”
He added he was pleased the late president’s blood will be kept “out of public hands”.
PFC Auctions had earlier claimed the vial of dried blood residue was taken at George Washington University Hospital in March 1981 after Mr Reagan was wounded in an assassination attempt by John Hinckley.
It is said to have come from a person whose late mother had worked at a medical lab. The foundation had said that if this was true, its sale was a “craven act”.
The auction website showed a picture of the blood-filled vial with a typed label showing the president’s name stuck to it.
Police on Tuesday were investigating the death of a man they shot with a stun gun during a confrontation after he allegedly tried to bite another man while naked.
The incident began when officers from the West Miami Police and Miami-Dade Police departments responded to the 2300 block of Southwest 58th Avenue Thursday afternoon to a call of a completely naked man exhibiting bizarre behavior, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.
Zabaleta said the caller told police that the man was trying to bite his neck and tear his clothes off.
San Antonio police say a woman accused of beheading her 3-week-old infant son used a knife and two swords in the attack and ate some of the child’s body parts.
San Antonio Police ChiefWilliam McManus told reporters Monday that Otty Sanchez’s attack on her son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez, was “too heinous” to fully discuss.
But he says Sanchez ate part of the newborn’s brain and bit off three of his toes before stabbing herself twice.
Police say the 33-year-old Sanchez told officers who were called to her house early Sunday that she killed her son at the devil’s request.
Sanchez is charged with capital murder and is being held on $1 million bail. She is recovering from her wounds at a hospital.
BALTIMORE – A 21-year-old college student from Kenya accused of killing a housemate told police he ate the victim’s heart and part of his brain after he died.
Alexander Kinyua hid the head and hands of the dead man in his family’s basement laundry room in a suburb of Baltimore, according to the sheriff’s office. Kinyua, a student at Morgan State University, was charged earlier in May in another attack in which the victim was brutally beaten but survived.
Kinyua is charged with first-degree murder and other charges in the death of 37-year-old Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, of Ghana. He was ordered held on no bail.
His public defender did not return a call seeking comment, and a voicemail left at Kinyua’s home was not returned.

Mao Sugiyama, a self-described “asexual” from Tokyo, cooked up, seasoned and served his own genitalia to five diners at a swanky banquet in Japan last month,Calorie Lab reported.
In most cases, “asexual” is a word used to describe a person who is non-sexual. Sugiyama, however, embraces it as a way to show that he does not affiliate with either gender.
Sugiyama sparked a firestorm of interest on April 8 with one tweet:
“[Please retweet] I am offering my male genitals (full penis, testes, scrotum) as a meal for 100,000 yen …Will prepare and cook as the buyer requests, at his chosen location.”
Just days after Sugiyama’s 22nd birthday, the artist underwent elective genital-removal surgery, divvied up the severed penis shaft, testicles, and scrotal skin between five people, and garnished it with button mushrooms and Italian parsley.
On April 13, five of six diners who signed up for the $250-a-plate feast, sat down to dinner. The sixth person was a no-show.
The next day, an organizer posted a blog — subsequently deleted — containing pictures of the event. Images showed dozens of people who attended the event just to catch a glimpse of the rare treat.
With the impersonal corporate culture where no body knows nobody(despite the HR spiel of ‘ all are colleagues, no vertical hierarchy, all on first name basis), this is bound to happen.
What has happened to access card given to the employees?
It looks that the security badge given to the boy during his official education there still worked!
‘A 19-year-old technology entrepreneur lived unnoticed in the Silicon Valley offices of internet giant AOL for two months before being discovered.
Eric Simons, from Chicago, slept on sofas, ate free in cafeterias, and used his days to work on his own start up company, offering teachers the chance to share lesson plans.
Other employees assumed he was a colleague and admired his strong work ethic. Simons would already be in the gym when they arrived at 7am, and he always stayed latest in the office at night.
Simons told technology website CNET: “There were so many people going in and out each day. They’d say, ‘Oh, he just works, here, he’s working late every night. Wow, what a hard worker.’”
During his first month Simons estimated he spent only $30 (£20) of his own money, mostly on occasional trips out to McDonald’s. He kept his clothes in a gym locker where he also showered.
The teenager, who had only finished high school a few months earlier, gained access to the offices when he was part of an official education.
