As stated in the Puranas, Kali-yuga had already begun, but its full influence was held back because of the presence of Lord Krishna. Then when Lord Krishna departed from this world, which is said to have occurred 35 years after the war of Kurukshetra in 3067, making it the year of 3032 BCE, then Kali-yuga began to show more of its effects.According to Puranic sources,Krishna’s disappearance marks the end of Dvapara Yuga and the start of Kali Yuga, which is dated to February 17/18, 3102 BCE.Astronomically simulated Eclipses and Greek Records place the year at 3031 BC.

This is the earliest reference to Vedic calendar with year beginning at Winter Solstice, found in Rigveda (5-77-1/2; 1-46-14; 7-69-3/2). Heliacal rising of Ashwini Nakshatra (Aries) can be seen to occur on 5th January, 7000 BC, marking the year beginning (Fig. 1)…The Sky of 19th December, 6000 BC at sunrise on the Winter Solstice day shows that Ashvini gave way to bright star Chitra (α Vir) on opposite side (Western horizon). A full Moon in Chitra Nakshatra provided a new time marker in the sky and heralded the lunar month naming system-Chaitra, Vaisakha etc. (Rigveda: 5-74-1,2 and Tait Samh. 7-4-8).

Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum Bhishma Stuti, Janmashtami
Bhishma is the Grand Sire of all Hindus. He is so revered that Hindus perform the Tharpana, which is performed by one for his ancestors, for him though Bhishma never married for He wanted his father’s offspring by his second wife to ascend the throne. As he has done what is impossible for a Man( Being a Naishtika Mrahmachari, that is not allowing semen to fall ), Devavrata was rechristened Bhishma(one who does the impossible). Lord Krishna has(d)the highest regard for Bhishma. It was mutual. During the Mahabharata War, as Bhishma lay dying, Krishna takes the Pandavas to Bhishma’s Death bed and asks Bhishma to advise Yudhisthir on Dharma. Bhishma says, ‘Krishna, You are Dharma, Why do you ask me to do this? You can do it by yourself’ (Throughout the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna addresses Bhishma as ‘Grandfather!) Krishna replies. ‘Dharma , when spoken by The One who has practiced, is strengthened” This, mind you, from Krishna! Let me paraphrase one essential sloka form Bhishma Stuti, Bhishma’s prayer of Krishna as addressed to Duryodhana -Bhishma Parva 67/24) ‘Vasudeva is is the Devata among all the Devatas. He is the Embodiment of Dharma. He fulfills everyone’s desires. He id the best among everyone. He is the Creator. He is the Action and its performer. He is the Yagya, Yagya Performer and its results. He is Lord unto Himself. He is in the present, past and the Future. He created Prajapathi(Fater of all). He is the austerity of the Seers. He is the Dawn, Dusk , the time when day Day meets Night and night meets the Day, Day and Night. He is the Infinite. He is also Finite. He supports the World,Vishnu. He is Brahman Rudra, He is the Sadguna Brahman. He is the Father.He is the parent of all. He is Vamana and Narasimha. He is the Grand sire of the Universe. He is easily accessible. He resides in the heart of the Seers, Hrishikesa. In whom Krishna is pleased,he will get everything. If one is afraid and takes refuge in Him, he need not Fear. One who loves Krishna, will transcend desires. The Bhishma Stuti.

Number Eight Unreachable?
The concept of Numbers in Hinduism is unique. For them, Infinity is a Positive Concept as Darkness. The absence of Infinity is Finite and the absence of Darkness is Light The take things, as it were, as they are in their State. So is their concepts of Numbers. In Tamil, a Classical Language of India, over 5000 years old, equal to Sanskrit in Grandeur, Literature Philosophy , has a Word,’எட்டு ‘ for Number Eight and for’ Reach’ There are expressions ‘ettipparithal, jumping and fetching’ ‘Ettak kani’ fruit that can not be got at.’ ‘Ettaadhu’, can not be attained. Hinduism has special attributes for Numbers. One-Reality One. Two-Purusha and Prakriti. Three, the three Nature of Man, Sathva,Rajas, Tamas, Three Energies, Potential, Kinetic and Potentio-kinetic(Srushti,Stihthi,Samhaara) Four,The aspects or goals of Life, Purushaarthaas,Righteousness(Dharma), Artha(Wealth,) Desire (Kama) and Moksha(The Liberated State) Number Five, Five sense organs, Five Elements(Pancha Bhutas),Pancha tanmatras(subtle elements) Six, six tastes. Seven, Seven Notes of Music. Eight, Eight special Powers of Yoga. Beyond this nine becomes the number of the Nine planets. They belong, not to the earth, hence beyond us. The come the two digits. Reaching Eight needs practice and is difficult to attain, Ashtamaa Siddhis. What a thought process and what a language!
