Tamil ,one of the ancient Languages of India speaks about Ramayana. Sanskrit texts too refer to Tamil, Tamils and Tamil Kings. As a matter of interest Rig Veda too talks about Tamil Kingdoms. One of the earliest references to Ramayana is found in Tamil Sangam Literature.Sangam date has hiterto been set as around 3000 Years ago. However, the date of Ramayana is now fixed at 5114 BC and Poompuhar, the Port city of Cholas has now been dated around 12,000 years back! Sangam literature talks of Ramayana and I am producing evidence below, with my translation in English.
கடுந்தெறல் இராமன் உடன் புணர் சீதையை
வலித்த கை அரக்கன் வௌவிய ஞான்றை
நிலஞ்சேர் மதர் அணி கண்ட குரங்கின்
செம்முகப் பெருங்கிளை இழை பொலிந்து ஆங்கு’ [1] Puranaanuru 378புறநானூறு 378
இருந்ததாம்.
இராமனுடன் காட்டுக்கு வந்திருந்த சீதையை இராவணன் வௌவிச் சென்றான். அவள் இராமனுக்கு வழி தெரியத் தான் அணிந்திருந்த அணிகலன்களை ஒவ்வொன்றாக ஆங்காங்கே நிலத்தில் போட்டுவிட்டுச் சென்றாள். அவள் அணிந்திருந்ததைப் பார்த்த செங்குரங்குகள் (முசு) அவற்றை எடுத்து எதனை எங்கு அணிவது என்று தெரியாமல் தாறுமாறாக அணிந்துகொண்டது போல் இருந்ததாம். (Sita was abducted when Rama lived in the forest. When abducted, Sita threw away her Jewels as a Marker for those who would tray to trace her. The Monkeys(who later would search and Find Sita), picked up the jewel and wore them , without knowing which Jewel to wear where)
‘ வென்வேல் கவுரியர் தொன்முது கோடி
முழங்கு இரும் பௌவம் இரங்கும் முன் துறை
வெல்போர் இராமன் அருமறைக்கு அவித்த
பல்வீழ் ஆலம் போல
ஒலி அவிந்தன்று இவ் அழுங்கல் ஊரே’ [2]– Aha Naanuru 70 அகநானூறு 70
தலைவன் திருமணம் செய்துகொள்ள வந்துவிட்டான். அவனையும் உன்னையும் இணைத்து அலர் தூற்றிய ஊரார் வாய் அடங்கிவிட்டது – என்று தோழி தலைவியிடம் சொல்கிறாள். இது செய்தி. ஊர் வாய் அடங்கியதற்குக் காட்டப்படும் உவமைதான் இராமனைப் பற்றிய செய்தி.
கோடி = தனுஷ்கோடி
கவுரியர் = பாண்டியர்
இராமன் தன் வெற்றிக்குப் பின் பாண்டியரின் ஆட்சிக்கு உட்பட்டிருந்த தனுஷ்கோடி வந்தடைந்தான். முழங்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் கடல் இரக்கத்தோடு காணப்பட்டது. அங்கு ஆறு கடலோடு கலக்கும் முன்றுறை (முன் துறை) ஓரத்தில் ஓர் ஆலமரம் இருந்தது. அந்த மரத்தடியில் அமர்ந்துகொண்டு இராமன் தன் மறைகளை ஓதிக்கொண்டிருந்தான். அப்போது பல விழுதுகளை உடைய அந்த ஆலமரம் தன் ஒலியை அவித்து வைத்துக்கொண்டது. அதாவது ஆலமரத்துப் பறவைகள் ஒலிப்பதை மறந்து கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தன. (ஆல மரத்தடியில் குழுமியிருந்த மற்ற உயிரினங்களும் ஒலி எழுப்பாமல் வாய்மூடிக்கொண்டன.( This poem is in the form of a message to a Girl who is in Love. Her friend tells her thus.” Rama has come to Dhanushkodi, which Falls under the Kingdom Of Pandyas.He is sitting under the Banyan Tree, reciting Vedas.To liten to Rama’s chanting of Vedas, the birds in the Banyan Tree stopped their chirping .Similarly, those who spoke ill of you while you were in Love, had shut their mouth as your Lover has come to Marry You)
‘இலங்கை அரசன் இராவணனின் தம்பி வீடணன். இவன் இராமனை நண்பனாகப் பெற்று இலங்கை அரசனானான் என்று அந்தப் பாடல் குறிப்பிடுகிறது.
