A MUM hid ecstasy in her baby’s medication which was then accidentally given to the child, who almost died, a court has been told today.
In Cairns District Court this morning, a Victorian couple, aged in their 20s, faced charges of grievous bodily harm and possession of a dangerous drug.
Both pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to six months’ jail, wholly suspended.
The baby was 10 weeks old on January 4 when she suffered a seizure and was put in an induced coma at Cairns Base Hospital after ingesting half the tablet.
The court heard the couple were visiting Cairns and the mother hid the drug with the baby’s reflux medicine which was then fed to the child by the father.
