  • Computer That Translates Thoughts into Words

An X Ray Scan of the Brain.

Scientists are reported to have developed a Computer that can read and translate these thoughts into words.

The Computer analyses the electron discharges in the Brain and converts them into words.

That thoughts are electrical activity has been accepted recently by Scientists.

In fact some form of Epileptic seizures, like Grand mal seizure, is due to high rate of electrical discharge in the Brain.

In fact Science will come to know that it is not electrical discharge that happens in the brain but Magnetic discharges.

This has been explained in Buddhist Treatises and in Vaiseshika System of Indian Philosophy,

The underlying concept in this experiment is that the thought process is Linear.

True, but the process of Intellect is Magnetic and Non Linear- Result of the Activity of the Brain is Thought;Activity of the Brain is Intellect at a higher plane is Intellect, which determines the Course of your thoughts.

Even this is another process  by Chitta.

When people ask you to meditate it is only the modification of the Chitta that is being addressed to

Neuroscientists at the University of California Berkeley put electrodes inside the skulls of brain surgery patients to monitor information from their temporal lobe, which is involved in the processing of speech and images.

As the patient listened to someone speaking, a computer program analysed how the brain processed and reproduced the words they had heard.

The scientists believe the technique could also be used to read and report what they were thinking of saying next.

In the journal PLoS Biology, they write that it takes attempts at mind reading to ‘a whole new level’.

A computer programme analysed the activity from the electrodes, and reproduced the word they had heard or something very similar to it at the first attempt.

    Brain Spectrogram
    Spectrogram of Brain Activity.

Co-author Brian Pasley said there is already mounting evidence that ‘perception and imagery may be pretty similar in the brain’.

Therefore with more work, brain recordings could allow scientists to ‘synthesise the actual sound a person is thinking, or just write out the words with a type of interface device.’

Their study also shows in sharp relief how the auditory system breaks down sound into its individual frequencies – a range of around 1 to 8,000 Hertz for human speech.

Pasley told ABC News: ‘This study mainly focused on lower-level acoustic characteristics of speech. But I think there’s a lot more happening in these brain areas than acoustic analysis’.

He added: ‘We sort of take it for granted, the ability to understand speech. But your brain is doing amazing computations to accomplish this feat.’

  • Wisdom Of Lord Krishna,Srimad Bhagavad Gita.Why? -1

Bhagavad Gita. The first Russian translation.
    Image via Wikipedia

    I am sixty now.

I have been thinking of writing on The Gita for about five years now.

I have been reading, not studying The Bhagavad Gita for the past 30 years.

But recently I found out, due to certain instances in my Life, to my shock, that I have been deceiving myself that I have read The Gita and that I am prepared to face things in Life as mentioned by The Lord of Enlightenment.

It had not gone into my heart.

It had  appealed to my reason alone.

I have never felt it with my heart.

However much one reads, studies these Great Sayings, so long as one grasps it with Reason, the ‘Sayings’ remain just ‘Sayings’

When one is hit by Realities of Life where one can turn to none for solutions nor can solve, The Gita comes to the rescue.

It tells you that things are what they are and it is your ability and ”vairaggaya’-determination, that can help you sail through.

    I am not a Scholar.

I, who was more an Atheist/Agnostic by Reasoning(so I thought) ,have been exposed to the Vedas by the Acharya of Sringeri, Sri Abhinava Vidya Theertha at the age of 29,.

Though knowing that I was not fit enough to learn the Vedas, because of my Drinking habits then and being irregular in my performing ‘sandhya vandana ‘The Noble Soul told me that I had the urge to know, despite fact that I quarreled with him on a minor point in Sastra, considering myself to be learned because I had a degree in Philosophy and that he will teach me whenever he visited Bangalore.( My father’s elder cousin, who was a scholar in Vedas  and me had an argument over an interpretation of a point in The Smriti and I suggested that we refer this to The Swamiji who was then camping at Bangalore.

When we went to meet him we were prevented from meeting him by those around him and were literally being pushed out.

    The Swamiji was near by.

On hearing my raised voice he asked what the matter was.

I explained him the argument I  have with my father’s Cousin, who was standing nearby.

The Acharya replied that he has no time( namakku purusath illa)

I retorted’ Hardly any people read the Vedas, that too at my age.

You are the head of The mutt established by The Great Shankaracharya.

You are supposed to live by Vedas and it is your Duty to clarify doubts on the Vedas.

Yet you say ‘you have no time’

I can only surmise that you do not know any thing about the Vedas to clarify my doubts.

Or you do not want to.

In either case you are unfit to occupy the Peetha of Sri Sankaracharya.’

    I walked out.

After about two or three hours a man from the mutt came to my room in the same area(i do not know how they found out my room) and asked me to accompany him to meet The Acharya.

I accompanied him with my Father’s Cousin with the apprehension that The Acharya was going to curse me.

The Acharya made me sit down in His presence and made me repeat what I said.

He  told me’ You are right. But at the same time you should also remember that I have to run this Mutt and by paying attention to people with money, though they are not pious, I  raise funds to enable me to perform Vedic karmas for World Welfare and help people who are needy and it helps me to perform Upanayana and marriage of the poor.

But still what you said is true.

I should not have allowed people around me to send you out.I am sorry.

Now you tel me what you want and he solved the problem ‘Incidentally my interpretation of The Smriti was right .

Then he told me that he wants to introduce me to The Vedas and that I should come to him whenever he is in Bangalore.

I told him that I was not Religious in the real sense of the term   and that I drink.

He told me not to Drink on the days I come to visit him and told me that I can leave and that I should come at 3 pm the next day.

I went to him , whenever I was in Bangalore( I was in a touring job, for about Six years.

Great men are just..what can one say…just Great!

  • Beware of Confused Teachers and Teachings on the Net.

Higher detail image of Swami_Vivekananda.jpg S...
    Image via Wikipedia

I just had a Link forwarded to me by my son.

The link is provided at the end of the blog.

What was shocking is the confusion of thoughts masquerading as Teachings which will confuse the already confused ones who happen to come across pieces like this.

Kindly read what you see but check out facts with authoritative sources before attempting to follow them.
This applies to my writings as well, not that I teach.

If God were to be in everything we see and because God is in my Mind, how is it that ‘Nothing I see means anything’?
    What is ‘attack thought’?
What do you want to see differently if what ‘Nothing I see means anything’
    What is a ‘neutral thought?
If You are invulnerable how does your ‘attack thoughts ‘attack your invulnerability?
Seems to me a confusion of Ayn Rand,Kierkegaard,Jean Pal Sartre and Indian Philosophy thrown in haphazardly.
Mind is an organ just like other organs like eyes etc.
It receives information as a store house.
    It does not discriminate.
Discrimination is the function of the intellect which ascribes values to thoughts.
The world is what it is .
At the same time it ceases its relevance when you realize your SELF-you can substitute it with God now, considering the thoughts you have.
Mind, World etc. are the Attributes of God/Reality.
Then why do we experience pleasure, pain, inconsistencies in the world?
The answer is Nescience or Avidya at the individual level and Maya at the Universal level.
The world of things always ‘is’
The delusion is due to the interplay of senses with the finer matter called ‘Thanmaathras’.
I recommend Swami Vivekananda‘s Works for the beginner and a little later essentials of Hinduism by Professor Hiriyanna,Six Systems of Indian Philosophy by Prof.Das Gupta.
Reference may be taken to Srimad Bhagavad Gita under the guidance of one who knows Indian philosophy.

Also The Bible without commentary,The Koran without reference to interpretations -straight.

These Great Books are available in Google Books.

May I suggest that original sources of Masters or justification for teachings(?) be incorporated in the blog as people under pressure may not be depressed further by a confused Mind.

I  can write a detailed reply but I can not because of space constraints.

If queries are posted I will be happy to assist.

    Story:

Today we are continuing to develop the theme of cause and effect. You are not the victim of the world you see because you invented it. You can give it up as easily as you made it up. You will see it or not see it, as you wish. While you want it you will see it; when you no longer want it, it will not be there for you to see.

The world you see is your invention. You have made up everything you see and you sustain the world through your thoughts about it. Every idea you have about what you see is simply wrong. The reason is:

    1. Nothing I see means anything
    2. I have given what I see all the meaning it has for me
    3. I do not understand anything I see
    4. These thoughts do not mean anything
    5. I am never upset for the reason I think
    6. I am upset because I see what is not there
    7. I see only the past
    8. My mind is preoccupied with past thoughts
    9. I see nothing as it is now
    10. My thoughts do not mean anything
    11. My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world.
    12. I am upset because I see a meaningless world
    13. A meaningless world engenders fear
    14. God did not create a meaningless world
    15. My thoughts are images that I have made
    16. I have no neutral thoughts
    17. I see no neutral things
    18. I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my seeing
    19. I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my thoughts
    20. I am determined to see
    21. I am determined to see things differently
    22. What I see is a form of vengeance
    23. I can escape from this world by giving up attack thoughts.
    24. I do not perceive my own best interest
    25. I do not know what anything is for
    26. My attack thoughts are attacking my invulnerability
    27. Above all else I want to see
    28. Above all else I want to see differently
    29. God is in everything I see
    30. God is in everything I see because God is in my mind
    31. I am not the victim of the world I see
    32. I have invented the world I see.

  • ‘Burnout in Job’ feeling’ -This too Shall Pass..

Of late we hear the term ‘burn out’ complaints from  people from various Professions.

It is not restricted to workers alone.

It is being aired by Sportsmen and other professionals too.

It is not as though that this is a new phenomenon.

You get distracted, become disinterested in what you are doing, not happy with what you are doing at present, irritability, sense of not doing well in your job and psychosomatic disorders.

    Let us understand this.

When some one has been doing things regularly and keeps on reflecting on it,this  some times is influenced by peer Group, one gets the feeling you have had enough.

    Right.

This is your present state of mind rather impressions triggered by constant reflection on what you have been doing or it might be what is called ‘reaching the Plateau’

    This is normal.

A little further reflection will show you that when you are off from what you have been doing, especially in a profession, after a couple of days later you shall be wanting to do the thing you want now to avoid.

Then you might not get what you want and the frustration that it entails will be very severe.

Your self-esteem will take a beating then.

We all do certain things in Life whether we like them or not for they are the very essence  for our well-being both economically and emotionally.

One must understand that these fleeting impressions are really what they are,- temporary.

Best is to ride it out by taking a break ,say, for a couple of weeks keeping away from what you have been doing and spend time with family and friends and have a change of place for an outing.

    Have Hobbies.

If you don’t have one, develop one-like Reading ,writing  anything.

If you are a believer ,Trust in God and do what you ought to.

You will find that you loved what you have been doing all along.

And don’t think too much – do not take these impressions and your self-analysis seriously.

Too much of Rationalization shall kill the Joy of Living.

In Life , nothing is Rational.

    This too shall Pass.

Mind you this is from one who used to act impulsively at the drop of a hat and regretted it later.

Working conditions are important determinants of health. The aims of this article are to 1) identify working conditions and work characteristics that are associated with workers’ perceptions that their work is harmful to their health and 2) identify with what symptoms these working conditions are associated.

We used the Swiss dataset from the 2005 edition of the European Working Conditions Survey. The dependent variable was based on the question “Does your work affect your health?”. Logistic regression was used to identify a set of variables collectively associated with self-reported work-related adverse health effects.

A total of 330 (32%) participants reported having their health affected by work. The most frequent symptoms included backache (17.1%), muscular pains (13.1%), stress (18.3%) and overall fatigue (11.7%). Scores for self-reported exposure to physicochemical risks, postural and physical risks, high work demand, and low social support were all significantly associated with workers’ perceptions that their work is harmful to their health, regardless of gender or age. A high level of education was associated with stress symptoms, and reports that health was affected by work was associated with low job satisfaction.

Many workers believe that their work affects their health. Health specialists should pay attention to the potential association between work and their patients’ health complaints. This is particularly relevant when patients mention symptoms such as muscular pains, backache, overall fatigue, and stress. Specific attention should be given to complaints of stress in highly educated workers.
