Lord Krishna went in search of Syamantaka Mani.
In the process He had to fight Jamabhavan, whom He found it difficult to defeat.
Reason,
Jambhavan was an ardent devotee of Lord Rama and he along with the vanara Sena fought along with Lord Rama against Ravana.
He was the one who made Hanuman to realize His potential to cross the Ocean in search of Sita in Lanka.
Legend has it that Lord Krishna gave the Darshan of Rama to Jambhavan during His scuffle with Jambhavan.
Only then did jambhavan realize Lord Krishna and Rama were the same and gave his daughter jambhavati to Krishna in marriage.
It may be noted in scientific interest that Jambhavan belonged to a species that was dwindling during Krishna’ period, Dwapara Yuga.
Vanara were yet another species, not monkeys as most of us believe.
Please read my post Vanaras Neandarthals of India.
