Babies Barcoded For Security.

IOL news Baby Jordan001
As parenting responsibilities become less and less, hospitals becoming more cash oriented it is no surprise that human beings are being treated as Products.
Though this step as a security measure is welcome , it augurs ill for the values of the Society.
In India we have  additional problems
Baby Girls are being killed as soon as theyy are born because of the fear that the child will cost the parents in getting them amrried(though in reality the position of womne have improved;in fact in elite circles baby girls are prefeerred for their warmth abd affection once the grow up)
Children are also being stolen from hospitals to use them for begging.
The other dangerous use of technology is the development of ‘Baby Safes’, where unwanted by parents can be dumped anonymously.
In Tamil Nadu , a ‘Cradle Scheme’ was started by the Government  about five years back ;  unwanted children may be left and the Government will take care of it.

A South African public hospital plans to tag babies electronically as one of several security measures to beat baby-snatching……

In some UK hospitals, babies have a personalised electronically programmed tag attached to their ankle. This is different from the tags in use in another South African hospital, Life Kingsbury Hospital in Claremont, Cape Town, which consist of a waterproof barcode placed on the baby’s back. The device looks like a plaster

Concerned about the safety of abandoned children, Cape Town’s Kim Highfield installed a “baby safe” in a community center. It’s a perforated movie rental return box with electronic rigging and a lock, basically. Times-Live reports,

Less than 10 seconds after a baby is placed in the metal structure, which is lined with a baby blanket and pillow, an alarm is triggered inside the building.

Highfield is then alerted by SMS and fetches the baby.
