Nothing Besides Vedas Shun Logic Tamil Thirumandhiram

The misinformation that Tamil is against Vedas and that Vedas were imposed on the Tamils, especially by Brahmins is nailed out right by Thirumoolar in His Thirumandhiram which is over 3000 years old. This text of three thousand verses on Self Realization forms the basis of Saiva Siddhantha, a School of Thought in Tamil Traditions, which places Siva as Supreme Deity. The text Thirumandhiram explains how Yoga is to be practiced and it focuses on Vaasi Yoga, the forerunner of Patanjali’s Ashtanga yoga. In a series of verses in the beginning of the Work, Thirumandhiram talks about Vedas. I am providing one verse which states hoe Vedas are final word in Righteousness.(there is no equivalent word in English for Tamil Word Aram , அறம் in English just as there is no equivalent word for the Sanskrit word Dharm in English. )

    Thirumandhiram says

‘There is nothing that is beyond Vedas for Righteousness. All that can be classified and followed as Dharm, அறம் is found in Vedas. The Discerning shunned Logic, followed/ practiced Vedas Realised Self/ Attained Moksha, வீடு. ‘

  • Yoga Guru Parampara List Thirumoolar Thirumandhiram

Siva is considered to be the Adhi Yogi, First Yogi. He gave the world Vaasi Yoga. Vaasi Yoga is different from The Asthtanga Yoga of Patanjali in that while Vaasi Yoga directly reaches out to Consciousness, Asthtanga Yoga reaches out to Consciousness through the Modifications of Chitta. That is the cessation of thought processes. When the senses are quiet, mind is at rest and intelligence is still, consciousness is reached and modifications of Chitta cease. In Vaasi Yoga, this stage is reached directly. In Ashtanga Yoga, this stage is reached through the Mind and this process is one step away from Realization while Vaasi yoga directly achieves Realization. As the practice of Vaasi Yoga is difficult, Patanjali was ordered by Siva to give to the world as easier method, Ashtanga Yoga. Patanjali had Bhogar with him while revealing the Ashtanga Yoga. These three are the foremost Gurus in Ashtanga Yoga.

Ganga coming down to Earth from Heaven. Falls on Siva's Head and he locked it in his hairlocks.
    Ganga coming down to earth.

Thirumandhiram by Thirumoolar imparts the knowledge of Yoga as revealed by Siva. Some essential details in Thirumandhiram differ from Ashtanga Yoga. Thirumandhiram is oriented more towards Vaasi Yoga and the practices mentioned differ slightly from Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga. I shall highlight them in another article.

Thirumandhiram is in Tamil language which is one of the ancient languages of India and it evolved from the sound of Damaru of Siva, along with Sanskrit. Thirumandhiram was composed by Thirumoolar, A Siddha. The text has 3000 verses, all dealing with Self realization. It forms the basis of Saiva Siddhandha.

Thirumoolar lists the Guru Parampara of Yoga.

Though the system of Yoga had developed both in Vedic systems, this, in my opinion in the later Vedic period( as there is only one reference of Yoga describing Siva as Kesin), and in the Dravida Desa, South, both systems trace their origins to Siva and are essentially the same with minor differences.

Though the concept of Prana is found in Vedic texts there also some references of Nadi in Ancient Vedic texts. Nadi references are found in Tamil texts of Siddhas, Thirumandhiram and Texts dealing with Saiva Siddhandha to cite a few.

    Nadi is

tube, pipe, nerve, blood vessel, pulse’) is a term for the channels through which, in traditional Indian medicine and spiritual knowledge, the energies such as prana of the physical body, the subtle body and the causal body are said to flow. Within this philosophical framework, the nadis are said to connect at special points of intensity, the chakras. All nadis are said to originate from one of two centres; the heart and the kanda, the latter being an egg-shaped bulb in the pelvic area, just below the navel. The three principal nadis run from the base of the spine to the head, and are the ida on the left, the sushumna in the centre, and the pingala on the right. Ultimately the goal is to unblock these nadis to bring liberation. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadi_(yoga)

    References in ancient Vedic texts.

    • The nāḍis penetrate the body from the soles of the feet to the crown of the head. In them is prāṇa, the breath of life and in that life abides Ātman, which is the abode of Shakti, creatrix of the animate and inanimate world.-Varaha Upanishad.
    • 3.6 “In the heart verily is Jivātma. Here a hundred and one nāḍis arise. For each of these nāḍis there are one hundred nāḍikās. For each of these there are thousands more. In these Vyâna moves.”
    • 3.7 “Through one of these, the Udâna leads us upward by virtue of good deeds to the good worlds, by sin to the sinful worlds, by both to the worlds of men indeed.”-Prasna Upanishad.
    • In the space outside the Meru, the right apart from the body placed on the left and the right, are the two nadis, Sasi and Mihira. The Nadi Susumna, whose substance is the threefold Gunas, is in the middle. She is the form of Moon, Sun, and Fire even water also; Her body, a string of blooming Dhatura flowers, extends from the middle of the Kanda to the Head, and the Vajra inside Her extends, shining, from the Medhra to the Head-Sat Chakra Nirupana. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadi_(yoga)

gives an example of a tree with many parts like stem, branches, leaves etc.  If one part is cut off from the main stream it would become dry. Similarly in our body these Nadis are spread horizontally and vertically from top to toe.Mahanarayan Upanishad also says the same. According toYoga Yajnavalkyaan ancient text on Yoga, the Nadis are spread in the body like the nerves in the leaves of the Peepal tree.https://www.google.com/amp/s/indianvedicheritage.wordpress.com/2016/01/10/surya-and-chandra-nadis-a-commentary/amp/

  • How To Integrate Siva And Vaasi Yoga

How To Integrate Siva And Vaasi Yoga

Vaasi Yoga is an esoteric Science and an experience to be felt and one has to practice it to know.It is difficult to express in words things that can not be expressed , communicated verbally.Mantras,Sukthas as found in Vedas and other ancient texts of India from Buddhism,Jainism. One also finds such verses in Tamil, one of the oldest languages of the world that has close relation with Sanskrit and Sanatana Dharma.Corresponding to Yogis, one finds Siddhas in Tamil Literature some of them dating back to 20,000 years.

Siddha is one who has Realized the Self in the Form of Siva. They are Ageless, beyond Time. Though there are innumerable Siddhas, Eighteen are considered to be the earliest of the early. This includes Siva as Adi Yogi. Please read my articles on Siddhas. Sage Agastya and Bhogar are Siva’s Direct disciples along with Patanjali.

Siva, as I had written In an earlier part is a Process and a Person. The term Siva is the process of Vaasi.Pronounce Vaa Si few times with no gap in between , you shall get Si VA.He is the first one to practice Vaasi and transferred it to Agastya and Bhogar.Though Agastya also has spoken on Vaasi, Bhogar’s exposition is equally eloquent.I am quoting Bhogar in this article As an aside, Bhogar had installed the Pazhani Dhandayudhapani Vigraha with Nine rare metals or ingredients of which Science has no clue. I have posted can article on the Atomic structure of the Idol

If you Bring in/Welcome, Vaasi from outside to Home, yet keep them separately in their Place Perform and achieve Vaasi, then No difference Exists between Vaasi and Siva. There is nothing that equals Vaasi as Universal Breath. On achievement of Vaasi as Siva Manifests as Splendorous Light In Vaasi.

Reality is Immanent in the Universe. It is within Us too. What is in the Macrocosm is in the Microcosm. The Reality appears to be different from us, away from us, is because of our ignorance, Avidya at the individual level and Maya at the Universal Level.Once this ignorance is removed, Reality ,Brahman shines forth just as our image becomes brighter in a Mirror which was dusty earlier.Bhogar says that though you may be aware that the Reality,Universal Soul, Brahman and You as Individual Souls are not different, he tells us to forget that for the time being, think that they are different and concentrate on the Process of Vaasi ,On Consciousness. When the Process of Vaasi is complete, Brahman,Reality shines forth as Splendorous Light in You and as Brahman,As One, as Siva .

This exposition is Pure Advaita as expressed in Aham Brahmasmi,Tat Tvam Asi,Soham Asmi and Pragyanam Brahma, The Mahavakyas, Great statements of Vedas. There is Pun on the Tamil word ‘Veedu .’.Veedu In Tamil means Moksha/Realisation as well.

  • Where Is Life Located In Humans,Thirumandhiram

Where Is Life Located In Humans,Thirumandhiram

Despite so much studies , one is yet to define what Life, Soul is. We do have descriptions. But after all these years of studying Philosophy and Religious texts, I get floored when some one asks these questions. And if the questioner happens to be a child….. They often floor me.

Prana ,as described in Hinduism , is the Life Force that flows and pervades the Body. If Life becomes extinct, all parts of the body too go? Is Life located in some place in the body? Is it in Sahasrara Chakra, the center between the two eyebrows on the forehead? Or is in the Navel?Or is it in the Heart? Ramana Maharshi used to say that psychological heart is on the right side, not on the location of the physical heart, saying that when one wants to say something by touching the heart or swears the Truth, unconsciously he touches the right side of the chest!

Yet the quest remains. Where is Life Located?

Thirumoolar in His Thirumandhiram verse 309 says Life is transferred to infant in the womb, from the mother through Placenta.

And in the Humans, Life is located below the center of the head , above the Tonsils.

Will write on Life’s Color and Size.

    உச்சிக்கு கீழே உண்ணாக்கு மேலே

    வச்ச பொருளின் வகையறிவாரில்லை”

    “உற்றாரும் ஆவி அமர்ந்திடம் உச்சியே” (தி.ம 309)
