How Full Minus Full Is Full Isa Upanishad

Now onto the Receiver of Knowledge.

From Isa Upanishad
From Isa Upanishad

Knowledge is awareness.

Whether it is correct or incorrect  Right or Wrong comes later.

How are we aware of things or people?

Either we experience them or we know of them already.

When we see a Flower for the first time,as a child, we have been told at that time, that a Flower that has certain color, odor, shape is called a particular Flower., like a Rose.

If its color was Rose, we told it is a Rose.

But there are black Roses, therefore color alone is not the criterion.

Then, odor, then we have artificial odors as well.

If we keep on questioning, we will end up with nothing to identify a Rose.

And if we strip away all these qualities or attributes, what is left?

The same with all the objects.

So experience does not give us knowledge, awareness.

What about Reason, that is , that we know things on our own(so-called rationalism)

First Reason something else to prove itself for a thing can not prove itself.

If you accept that it has to assumed, then it becomes an Axiom which can not be proved but something that is assumed.

This is not Reasoning.

Moreover, to recognize  Knowledge, or awareness you should know what is Knowledge or awareness from what is not Knowledge.

As you do not possess Knowledge, you can not distinguish between Knowledge and Non-Knowledge.

Therefore, knowledge from this source is not possible.

Hence knowledge or awareness  is not possible.

How come we are aware?

This calls for a new approach to Knowledge.

For Indian Philosophy, Knowledge is a Negative concept.

It is not acquisition of some thing new, but removal of Ignorance that is Knowledge.

As an individual all are endowed with Knowledge but ignorance veils it.

When we remove Ignorance,Knowledge shines.

In this sense when we learn something, we actually have ignorance removed and our knowledge shines.

In this sense even when one thinks he has no knowledge he has it, only that he is not aware of it.

So in the Sloka ‘Purnamitha’, the one, who has knowledge in Full, who divulges Knowledge in Full to the other, who thinks he has none, but has it in Full measure.

Thus the receiver of teaching or knowledge is also ‘Full’

Thus Full minus Full is also Full.
