  • Rape Marriage Of Children Yes By Sri Lanka

“If under aged girls are statutorily raped and the sexual act was however with consent, it may be good to have legislation that allows the perpetrator to marry the ‘victim’ with her consent.”

This gem is from Rajapakshe, President of Sri Lanka, the land that follows The Buddha!

Child abuse on the rise in Sri Lanka

As the rates of Rapes are increasing, especially by the Armed Forces, the Nation is worried.

The reaction of Rajapakshe is given at the top of this post.

What prompted him to say what he said?

    This,

    Sri Lanka Guardian Reports,

Last November a soldier was arrested for sexually abusing an eight year old girl.
The girl, the daughter of an ASP, was waiting in an anteroom in the CMC while her father was at a discussion about the Commonwealth Summit. The soldier was the bodyguard of a colonel who was at the same discussion. The girl revealed what was done to her by the ‘Army Uncle’ (“using words according to her knowledge”) only after she went home .
Any reasonable person would know why that child did not scream during the abuse, why she remained mute until she was safe at home. Her silence and inaction were functions of terror and ignorance. But if Lanka enacts the proposed Rape Marriage Law, the soldier might be able to argue that he abused the child with her consent. After all, she did not protest, did she? Or tell her father when he came in? And the President himself thinks that children can ‘consent’ to rape: “If under aged girls are statutorily raped and the sexual act was however with consent, it may be good to have legislation that allows the perpetrator to marry the ‘victim’ with her consent.”
A Lankan must be over 18 to vote, to drive, to smoke and to drink. Such limits are imposed globally because until a certain age is reached, a human being lacks the capacity to make mature and informed choices about important matters. Statutory rape provisions too belong in same category. Their main purpose is to prevent adults from exploiting the ignorance, the trust, the inexperience and the terror of children.
President Rajapaksa thinks otherwise. He says children can ‘consent’ to a sexual act. So when a male adult rapes a female child and claims that he did so with her consent and she is too confused or scared or shocked to prove otherwise, he can escape punishment, by promising to marry her when she is 18.
Currently statutory rape laws apply to children under 16. How old does the President think a female-child has to be, in order to ‘consent’ to a ‘sexual act’? Fourteen? Twelve? Younger?
The above-mentioned incident indicates, again, how vulnerable North-Eastern children must be, under de facto military occupation. It also proves that child abuse/rape is a problem for all Lankan parents and children. But what hope is there when the Presidential father thinks that children can ‘consent’ to rape, and that rapists should be allowed to marry their victims?”
The Army has honed its skills in raping,by raping Tamils .
    Understandable.
Tamils deserve to be raped, is it?
Well then when it comes to Sinhalese,?
UNICEF released a report on “Emerging concerns and case studies on child marriage in Sri Lanka” revealing details on statutory rape and early marriage in certain districts.
The study highlighted the increasing cases of child abuse and the “grossly inadequate” measures available for dealing with the problem.
The number of crimes against children increased by 64% in 2012 from a year earlier with 3 to 5 children being raped every day in Sri Lanka.”
    Hurts some one,somewhere..?

“Sri Lanka’s president ordered the release on Friday of 98 Indian fishermen detained for poaching as a “goodwill gesture” after New Delhi abstained in a vote on a U.N. resolution that approved an international inquiry into alleged war crimes on the island.

India, Sri Lanka’s largest trade partner, backed two prior resolutions, but on Thursday unexpectedly took a neutral stand on the demand for a probe into actions by both Sri Lankan state forces and Tamil rebels during the 26-year conflict that ended in 2009.

“The president ordered the release of all Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture,” Mohan Samaranayaka, a spokesman for President Mahinda Rajapaksa, told Reuters.

A total of 23 states voted in favour of the U.S.-led resolution, 12 against and 12 abstained. Among those who voted against were China and Pakistan, while India withheld its vote over concerns that the investigation would be “intrusive”.”

  • Mass Graves Of Sri Lanka Photo Essay

I have posted exhaustively on the war crimes committed by Sri Lanka in trying to exterminate the Tamils there.

Mass murder was no an exception but a rule.

Mass graves keep on coming out.

Today a new mass grave has been found.

A look at the Mass Graves.

Mass Garve at Matale, Sri Lanka
    Mass Grave, Matale

The total number of human skeletal remains unearthed from a mass grave behind the Matale Hospital has risen to 142 since the excavation started in early November last year.

The skeletal remains have been sent for carbon dating in a bid to establish the era the grave came into existence, officials said.

Some argue that the grave contains the victims of the aborted 1971 armed insurrection of the Janatha Vimukthi Perumana (JVP) in 1971 while there are others who say it could go back to the 18th century during the colonial era.

    Graves At Mullivaykkal
    Mullivaikkal Graves

    [TamilNet, Monday, 01 October 2012, 22:21 GMT]
An official who recently visited the outskirts of Mu’l’livaaykkaal with the soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army told TamilNet this week that he had personally witnessed skeletal remains of hundreds of slain people surfacing along the few kilometers long, L-shaped bunker, running from Vadduvaakal to northwards along the land of the genocidal onslaught. A vast area is still not cleared and is strictly prohibited from access to anyone except SL military officials. “There are booby traps and UXOs. Rotten automatic rifles and RPG ammunitions are lying around in the area. When I walked across a bunker, I was able to sense that it was a bunker of mass slaughter. As the bodies buried underneath have rotten, the soil was going under as we walked across,” he said. Meanwhile, some other mass graves show the use of chemicals that have burnt even the bones to become ashes, journalists report.

The end of war in Sri Lanka, captured for posterity by Google Earth published last week by Groundviews was the first look at the end of the war in Sri Lanka through historical satellite imagery freely accessible via Google Earth. The article was an open invitation for those using Google Earth to scan for and alert others over areas and artefacts of interest, that in turn could strengthen discussions around the hellish final weeks of war in Sri Lanka. Given the nature of imagery from around this period and centred on Nandikadal, the article explicitly noted,

What Google Maps and Earth does NOT enable one to do, given (1) the quality of some of the historical imagery (which sometimes features extensive cloud cover of vast regions) and (2) the large gaps between the available historical imagery (mid March, late May, after the official end of the war and killing of the LTTE’s leader, then mid-June and early August) is any robust analysis on when shelling in a specific region took place, and importantly, by whom.

Shared widely on Facebook, Twitter and via email, the article clearly indicated that one of the best references today for the research and study of the end of war in Sri Lanka is Google Earth. Imagery accessible via Google’s servers simply isn’t available through other sources or archived elsewhere in the public domain.

Whereas the previous article studied the sheer scale and extent of the destruction and human displacement in Sri Lanka during the final phase of the war, between March and May 2009, the focus here is on mass graves in and around the so-called Civilian Safe Zones (CSZs). Our first article was anchored to two key UNOSAT reports. The present study is anchored to the High-Resolution Satellite Imagery and the Conflict in Sri Lanka report by the Scientific Responsibility, Human Rights and Law Programme of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), published in August 2009. As with the UNOSAT reports, the AAAS study – commissioned by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International – was met with official condemnation and Ministry of Defence counter-analysis after its public release, largely anchored to the sections dealing with the removal of IDP structures within the CSZ between 6 and 10 May 2009,..

  • New Mass Grave In Sri Lanka Found

The leaked UNHRC report by Naveetham Pillai to the UN on the War Crimes of Sri Lanka in killing the Tamils  en masse indicated that there is substance in the allegation that the Sri Lanka Government was indeed Guilty of War Crimes.

Mass Grave found in Sri Lanka
Mass Grave Pudukkudiyiruupunew Mass Grave in Sri Lanka

Navneetham Pillai stated that , on her visit to Sri Lanka some time back, British PM Cameron was prevented from visiting th site and the Tamils mobbed him and reported to him the atrocities committed, she was not given enough co-operation by the Sri Lankan Government and that a case exists for an International Probe for War Crimes by Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka promptly rejected her statement.

Earlier the Sri Lanka Minister abused her stating that he was ready to marry her!

‘“I urge her to join me to go on a trip around the country. I would teach her the history of Sri Lanka, I would tell her about Maha Ravana. It was we who gave Kuweni in marriage to Prince Wijaya and if Madam Pillay is agreeable I am ready to marry her even tomorrow,” he said.

He made these remarks addressing a public meeting in Maradana, Colombo today.

“We are a nation that wore garments prior to the white man, and I will teach Madam Pillay a bit of our history. We were a nation which conducted trade with the world during the era before Christ.  In order to do a study on our nation she has to visit Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Ruhuna. We are a nation that built a flying machine (Dandu monara- a mythological flying machine) before Wilber t and Orville Wright,” he said.

He further said the country today was free of the clutches of terrorism due to the steadfastness of the Rajapaksas and it was the President who led the country to both the defeat of terrorism and peaceful co- existence among communities.’

Now that the US is planing to table a resolution to censure Sri Lanka and initiate  action to institute an International Enquiry into the mass killing of the Tamils, the Sri Lanka Government is on the offensive mode with the Sri Lanka Media joining the chorus.

A dampener to them has come  in the way of a family ploughing their backyard and stumbling across a mass grave.

This incident was registered after two remains exhumed while a house owner ploughed the backyard.

Dr S Sivaruban, the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of Jaffna Teaching hospital has stated that the majority of the skeletons were female.

The clothes of the remains have been decomposed, however pieces of Nylon and a National Identity Card were recovered from the grave, he revealed.

Dr. Sivaruban further stated that the residents of the area mentioned that Moonkilaru village faced an artillery attack in 2009.

In an inquiry made by ‘BBC Sandeshaya’ Media Spokesman for the Police, SSP Ajith Rohana has stated that the area was under the rule of LTTE for over 20 years.

The parts of skeleton are being subjected to further investigations, he added.’

  • Eleven Kinds Of Lullaby For Children

Lullaby is one of the most delightful forms of Literature.

    Lullaby in Tami
    Lullaby

Though I am very well versed in English, Sanskrit and Tamil Literature. I have a bird’s-eye view of them.

To my knowledge the kinds of Lullabies found in Tamil Literature seem to be unmatched.

I have not come across anything close to it.

Though Tamil and Tamils  are perceived to be highly emotional, thanks to idiotic self-styled fanatics of Dravidian parties who make a living off Tamil, the Truth is that Tamil and Tamil Grammar, though very rich in content, imagery, has a highly organised system of Grammar totally different from Sanskrit.

It is organised not merely by content of the poem but also relates to the Ages Of Man,Woman and Child.

Shakespeare would talk to us on The Seven Ages of Man in As you Like It.

Tamil speaks of the Ages of Woman.

    Read my post on this,

Lullaby forms an important form of Tamil Literature.

It abounds in early Classical Tamil , though it has gained momentum in the middle ages through the Bhakti Ilakkiyam(Devotional Classics)

This has organised Literature in such a manner that it has assigned different types of Lullabies to be sung for the Child.

As we all know, at least Grandparents know, that children love Lullabies.

As the child grows up, so is the ear for Music.

Hence the Lullaby one sings  between one year to another has to be different to keep the child engaged.

    Tamil has done it.

They have devised a system where various ages , corresponding type of Lullabies are listed and the parameters for them set.

    There are Ten.

    They are.

    Protective Age.
This  type is sung during the second Month of the Child.
Here as child is very tender, Gods like Ganapati,Siva,Parvati, Subramanya or Vishnu are invoked and prayed for the protection of the Child.

For a toddler of Five months.
The child would start Crawling, by folding one leg, leaning both the hands on the ground , shall thrust its face.
This would look like a typical South Indian Green Leaves plant fluttering in the breeze.
Meter for this type of Lullaby would be more bet oriented.
    The name of the plant ‘Sengeerai‘ is given for this stage.3.

Next is sung at the Seven Month.
Now the child would carefully observe the tongue movement of the Mother.
    this is the actual age of the Lullaby’,Thaalaattu’.4.

At nine months, the child would clap its hands.
This is called ‘Chappani’ or Clapping.
    Interesting to note the word in Kannada for Clapping is ‘Chappali’5.

At the eleventh month, parents beseech the child to give them a Kiss.
    This is named as ‘Muthaadal Paruvam’ Kissing Age.6.

This is the Thirteenth Month when the child is able to walk, albeit  hesitatingly, with it’s both hands outstretched, when parents call the Child to come to them.7.

At the Fifteenth Month, the Moon is shown to the child and the child invites Moon to come and play.8.

At the eighteenth month, male and female differentiation  is noticed and accordingly the stages.songs vary.
This is called the ‘Sitril Paruvam’
The child would a house of Sand , destroys it with its feet and rebuilds.

This is the Eighteenth Month when the child plays with a small drum.
    Siru Parai Paruvam.

    Playing with a Small Chariot.

At the age of 21 months , the child would play with a small chariot made of wood.
    Siru Ther Paruvam.

Then onwards two stages are given for Girls.

One is Kazhangaadal, playing with small pebbles or stones on hand ,tossing them while singing.

    Might use Flower balls.

Another is playing in a Swing.

    Oonjal Paruvam

Look at the way the growth of the child is observed.

We have lost these pleasures to TV and Video games.

I have not observed my children doing these.

In fact I never noticed them growing up for I was ‘Busy!’

I am on enjoying these in my Grand son and Grand daughter.
