  • Goddess Abhirami Plays How

    Goddess Abhirami Plays How

There are incidents in one’s Life which defy Logic.

We, those who have not experienced them, brush them aside , saying it is a coincidence, vivid imagination.

Full of Life, we make jest of such things.

But when one faces difficult circumstances, one tends to clutch even a straw.

The difference between Gnani and ordinary mortals is that the former learns and proceeds towards Realization; we ,though for a moment are moved, get on with our Lives as usual!

I have personal experience of such incidents,

I have narrated a couple of them as Posts.

I have a friend, who is running a Media Group in Tamil ,a Film producer,Political commentator and very much down to earth.

Though not an Atheist or an Agnostic, one can not say he is deeply religious.

I met him , on his personal invitation, (after reading my blog,) in Chennai in March 2015 for the first time.

I went to his office around 2 pm and we were discussing many things, mainly Politics, News till 10.30 pm.

As I informed my eldest sister-in-law and my wife that I would be back in about two hours, they were worried and kept on calling me.

Finally I returned home by about 11.30pm.

What did we discuss at length?

As we were discussing politics and other things, topic turned towards Philosophy and Religion.

In the course of our talks he narrated this incident.

Let me narrate it in his words.

‘By now, you know I am not strictly religious, though I Believe in God.

I have been associated with Kanchi Mutt very closely and now have distanced by self after the passing away of the Maha Periyava.

I was then running more Magazines , which were trend setters and  I was kept busy .

During this period my wife fell ill and that too critically.

She was admitted to Apollo Hospitals ,Chennai.

She was on Oxygen and Doctors informed me that they had done their best and the rest is with God.

I was by her side for over eight days.

On the eighth day, I dozed off.

I had a vivid dream, where Goddess Abhirami bade me to come to Thirukkadavur.

    I woke up.

I called my driver and proceeded towards Thirukkadavur.

It was Monson time in Tamil Nadu,July/August.

    It was raining heavily.

With great difficulty we covered th distance in about ten hours and I reached the temple around 6 am.

The Sanctum had opened just then.

The Kurukkal, Archaka, was awaiting the arrival of Milk for morning Abhisheka.

    Time wore by… 6.0..7… 7.30…

The archaka became restless as it was getting late and devotees have gathered and it was raining very heavily.

Then around 7.45 came a boy with an Aluminium Can of Milk.

The Archaka scolded him for being late.

The boy just smiled and went off saying that the Cows were sick.

    The Abhishekam went on.

It was concluded by about 9 am.

Then came a man and asked the archaka for his forgiveness.

He stated that he could not provide the Milk that day as his cows were sick!

The archaka told him that a boy had come and delivered the Milk stating that the Cows were sick!

The man replied that he had no assistants!

    ..The Abhishekam over, Archanai began.

I started to offer details for the Archanai , but the Archaka kept on overlooking me and went on performing Archanai for the others.

    I t was 9.30.

I asked him to perform the Archana .

He told me that the next Abhishekam will start shortly and he will perform the Archana, afer the Abhshekam and the mandatory Kattali Abhishekam by some other party, which was scheduled for the day.

    I waited.

The Abhishekam over , the Archanai began for the other party who had scheduled the Archana for the day.

I was totally dejected as my archanai was not being done as I felt it was a bad omen.

    But I looked on.

    The Archanai Sankalpam began.

The Nakshatra was Magha, my wife’ nakshatra!

    The name was my wife’s.!

Then the daughter’s name and nakshatra were recited,

    They were my daughter’s!

    I had realized then,

It was Abhirami’s way of Blessing Me!…

I did not do the Archanai as It had already been done.

…Darshan over, I started for Chennai and it continued raining heavily.

The Driver found it difficult to drive.

In the meanwhile I was running a high fever and was shivering, feeling giddy.

I told the driver to park the Car in a safe place.

I was shivering with fever and was delirious.

The driver said that he would manage by driving carefully.

I had dozed off and after an hour I saw a small girl sitting in the front seat near the driver, talking to him.

She was wearing a Green Petticoat,( a dress worn by young girls in the south)

I was trying to shout at the driver not to pick up hitch hikers.

If he wanted more money I could give it to him.

    But no words came!

    I slept off.

As I  woke up, the Driver was saying,

‘Sir, We are nearing Chennai, it is 5.30″

I asked him how it could be as I told him to wait and asked him.

‘Where is the girl whom you picked up?

He replied that the girl got down at the outskirts of Tirukkadavur saying that there would be no problem in reaching Chennai.

And that I and asked him to pick her up and was chatting with her!

He said he did not charge her.

    We reached the Hospital.

My wife was looking normal and her oxygen had been removed.

She was able to talk and told me that some one who said he was close friend of mine gave her Kumkum prasadm from Thirukkadavur.

She asked me that who it was as she knew all my close friends.

I could not place him even after my wife’s description of him.

Then I remembered the Deity Abhiramai was wearing green Petticoat after the Abhishekam!

  • Ramani’s Blog Sources Sankara and Sanitary Napkin Reply

This blog receives notice among the netizens and is often quoted in Texts, both in English and Tamil as well.

This is also rated as the 15th authentic site on Hinduism by a site and 30th in the world by another.

It is my duty to disclose my sources to lend more authenticity  and credibility ,though I provide relevant sources and links in the Posts.

    There is another reason.

Ramana Maharishi On Consciousnes.quote,jpg. Ramana Maharishi On Consciousnes..

The colonial mindset implanted in us is so great that people even when they look at facts of Indian Origin and Indian Texts, refuse to look into them.

    Brush aside as non sense.

Worse still is that some make funny remarks.

One of the readers in a Facebook community commented  for the Post Shankaracharya Intellectual Giant, where I listed the  His works as follows,

‘So, He could have invented sanitary Napkins!’

I did not respond to this comment.

The point is that we have to let it be known our treasures with authority, which was eroded by the British as they have done for the whole world, including their own Irish.

    I will take personal insults.

But I can not take any disrespect to Adi Shankaracharya.

The information I am sharing here in the blog is not my invention nor I am a Gnani or a self-styled Guru.

So much so that Adi Shankaracharya classified the worship of Surya as Sauram along with Ganapathyam,Kaumaram,Shaivam,Saaktham and Vaishnavam.

The foremost duty of a Hindu is the performance of Sanshyavandana.

The God addressed to and the Argya, the offering of water is to Surya.

He is described as the Visible Reality,Brahman.

47-48. While the sages glorify the sun-god with the hymns of the Sama-, Rig- and Yajur Vedas, which reveal his identity, the Gandharvas also sing his praises and the Apsaras dance before his chariot. The Nagas arrange the chariot ropes and the Yaksas harness the horses to the chariot, while the powerful Raksasas push from behind.

    49. Facing the chariot, the sixty thousand brahmana sages known as Valakhilyas travel in front and offer prayers to the almighty sun-god with Vedic mantras.

    46. Thus, throughout the twelve months, the lord of the sun travels in all directions with his six types of associates, disseminating among the inhabitants of this universe purity of consciousness for both this life and the next.

    45. All these personalities are the opulent expansions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vishnu, in the form of the sun-god. These deities take away all the sinful reactions of those who remember them each day at dawn and sunset. -Bhagavatha Purana.

    The Twelve Suns.

  • Vishnu Ananthasayanam Cosmic Hibernation

Rene Descartes ,the Rationalist Philosopher’s observation on Sleep and Wakefulness is interesting.

He developed the system of doubt to arrive at certainty.

    Ranganatha Srirangam.jpg
    Narayana In Anantha sayanam,Sriranagam

He starts disbelieving everything, the senses, the external world, scriptures, opinions and everything one can conceive of.

I recommend reading his Books for explaining his thoughts, though interesting, will not come under the topic we are discussing.

    One sleeps and wakes up.

    Padmanabha in ananthasayanam.jpg
    Padmanabha in ananthasayanam,Thiruvanathapuram temple

Descartes asks as to what determines the state of sleep and wakefulness.

In sleep one dreams and on waking up finds that it is not true.

What if what one perceives to be Sleep is wakefulness and what wakefulness is really a sleeping state?

In sleep we find everything to be true at the time of dreaming and only on waking up we say we have dreamt.

What if this is the other way round?

Sometimes I dream that I write and on waking up I find it is untrue and that I have been dreaming.

Now I am writing this post.

How can I be certain now that this activity is not being done while asleep?

This action of writing now may be a dream and I may wake up.

This is a problem not solved by Philosophy.

Hinduism describes four states of Being.

    Jagrat, the waking state.

    Swapna, the dreaming state,

Sushupti, the deep dreamless state and

    Turiya, Pure Consciousness.

In the last state everything is Pure consciousness and the dreamer or The Experiencer, one who experiences and The Experienced are One.

    One becomes the other.

And Consciousness is not limited by Space and Time.

Only when Space and Time are present, is the Consciousness becomes limited.

The Universal Consciousness one of the Attributes of Reality in unbounded.

Only when it is bound by Space and time, does it manifest as the world of names and Forms.

In essence the world and the beings, both animate and inanimate are One.

The differentiation occurs because of Space and Time.

This is called by Henri Bergson as Elan Vital.

Our Indian Philosophers call it Chit, one of the attributes of Brahman,Reality, the others being Sat(Being) and Ananda(Bliss)

Purusha Sukta describes the evolution of the Cosmos.

It describes the Universe in its evolution.

It talks about movement and stillness.

Motion and immobility are two things that are relative to each other.

Purusha is the Universal primordial Principle while Narayana is the specific applied principle in action.

    He evolves into the world.

    NaarayanamMahaegyam viswaathmaanam Prayaanam..

    Naarayna paro Jyotiraathma naarayana para’

He is the mover but He is Immobile.

He evolves into the Universe , remains Himself.

He evolves Consciousness into beings, making them aware, not what they are but what Narayana wants them to be, by His Maya, Illusion.

In this sense he makes things ,people though Conscious yet not Really Conscious.

He poses to be asleep, but not really sleeping.

    Narayana does not sleep.

His sleep is Yoga Nidra, a state of Yoga when one is awake yet asleep.

In our limited capacity all of us would have experienced this at some point of time.

And this sleep wakefulness is not bound by either Space or Time as Pure Consciousness can not be bound by Time or Space for Brahman;it is Its attribute.

Brahman, as Narayana represents this principle in His Ananthasayanam(Cosmic hibernation)

One may note that we call Anantha Narayana and not Anantha Vishnu for Narayana and Vishnu are different aspects of Reality Brahman.

  • Adi Shankaracharya Did Not Establish Shankar Mutts

All of us follow the information that Ai Shankaracharya established  four Maths, one each for direction.

    They are.

    Shankaracharya with His disciples
    Shankaracharya with His disciples

    East-Padmapara-Govardhana Peetha-Rig Veda-Pragaynam Brahma is the Mahavakya-Bhogavala Sampradaya.

    South-Suresvara-Sringeri Sarada Peetham-Yajur Veda-Aham Brahmasmi-Bhurivala Sampradaya.

    West-Hasthamalakacharya-Dwaraka Peetham-Sama Veda-Thattvamasi-Kitavala Sampradaya.

    North-Totakacharya-Jyothir Matha-Atharvan Veda-Ayamatama Brahma-Nanada Vala Sampradaya.

Adi Sankaracharyas’ date varies from BC to 3, 8 Century AD.

While the BC date is nor proven by records, I am speaking of Indian records for the western records might post date him or might even deny his existence

However,.the AD dates seem to be reasonable.

Thirugnana Sambhandar , a Tamil Saint, is quoted by Adi Shankaracharya in his Soundarya Lahari, as Dravida Sisu’

So Shankaracharya should have been before the close of the 15 Century AD.

The earliest recorded visit to Madurai Adheenam , established by Gnana Sambhandar was by Robert De Nobili in 1605.

“F. Robert was pleased and visited the temple as well as our Aadheenam during the rule of our 230th Guru Maha Sannidhanam Srila Sri Jnana Bhotaha Sri Jnana Sambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal and had discussions on common interests. Fr. Robert D. Nobily was in love with Tamil and learned it well.”

The Commander Masikapoor of the Emperor Aurangzeb visited our 237th Guru Maha Sannidhanam Srila Sri Mithiyeshwara Sri Jnana Sambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigaland they had a long sitting of sharing many avenues of their interests.

Commander had presented an “Ivory Paduka” to our 237th Guru Maha Sannidhanam. Together with big silver places for Naivedyam (sacred food offered to divine), full set of Sodasa Upachara Pooja/Deeparadhandi, silver glasses, jugs etc and two Rajasthan horses for Rishi and palaquin for relaxing after long travels.”

So if we take one Adheenam was place for 30 years at the minimum, then the first mutt by Sambhandar should have been 6900-1600.

So this places Sambandar 4300 BC!

Then Shankaracharya dates back to between 4300-4000 BC!

But the Bhakti Literature mentions Gnana Sambhanda around 7 Century AD when Tirunavukkasar is mentioned as a contemporary of Sambanda.

This is supported by  other evidence of the same period in Tamil.

So Shankaracharya’s date may be  around 7 Century AD.

Now to the view that Shankaracharya did not establish the four Mutts.

Shankaracharya, according to the Legends, engaged in Arguments with the Heads of established systems at Mutts and won them over.

This means that he did not etablish these these Mutts in the strictest sense , inherited them and molded them .

    Then he inherited these Mutts.

“According to Pandey, these Mathas were not established by Shankara himself, but were originally ashrams established by Vibhāņdaka and his son Ŗșyaśŗnga.[38] Shankara inherited the ashrams at Dvārakā and Sringeri, and shifted the ashram at Śŗngaverapura to Badarikāśrama, and the ashram at Angadeśa to Jagannātha Purī”
