While the support for the Sri Lanka Tamils has been building up now in Tamil Nadu, the behavior of the Sri Lanka Tamils who have come to India as Refugees and settled in various places in Tamil Nadu are shocking, to say the least.
I have been hearing of this for quite some time now and when I visited Tiruchirapalli recently to visit temples, I had a first hand account of this.
I was staying in the Home of a family friend.
Contrary to normal practice, I found two Police Constable on Duty throughout the day and Night.
I asked why.
It seems that Sri Lankan Tamils are settled in large numbers in the area.
They have all the facilities, though they have to go through a lot of paper work, including admissions to Schools.
Most of the youngsters are not willing to go to school ,to work and are engaged in smuggling and racketeering.
Because of the sensitivity of the people, the Police have to tread warily.
The Tamils form a Group of their own and do not mingle with the locals, despite their efforts to be friendly with them .
Worse is the fact that they flaunt money, which they receive from abroad, look down upon the poor Tamils of the locals.
They use their money to secure important positions Social Activities,like becoming the President, Secretary of Local temples, for which they raise money from Abroad and keep the locals out.
Though the locals share the grief of the Sri Lanka Tamils, they resent their presence in India and to put it bluntly want them to go away.
Time Sri Lanka Tamils. understand the local feelings.
