Anna Hazare Protest-Bad Precedent.

Anna Hazare’s fight against Corruption,though well-intentioned, is not Right, the way he goes about it.

The issue is to be handled by Parliament and not by a Group of people, arm twisting the elected body by going out in the streets.

Any one who muster crowd and media support can resort to this to defy or enact a Law in their interests.

Other option,considering that the political rogues, is to force the MPs by Satyagraha against them in their constituency and make them bring in or vote for the legislation people want.

Police arrested Anna Hazare here on Tuesday, shortly before he was to launch an indefinite fast to press for a comprehensive Lokpal bill, and secured his judicial custody for seven days. But the government buckled in the evening and sought to release him, only to be spurned by the Gandhian.
According to late night reports, Hazare refused to leave Tihar Jail, where he was taken, unless the government agreed to let him fast on his terms.The arrest sparked an outpouring of popular anger across the country, and political parties cutting across the ideological spectrum were united in their condemnation of the arrest.

From the BJP to the CPM, and even the CPI(ML), demanded that Hazare and his supporters be released forthwith. Thousands of people demonstrated in the streets of state capitals and other urban centres in support of the anti-corruption crusader.

    ok I agree with you, for the muscling part. But this is not an issue of today, They have been trying to pass trying to pass and trying to pass. And after all this, they want to have loop holes such that they want their people to be away from it. They are trying to draft something which will help them save themselves if they bribe, but do you see a better foolproof way other than this, to get a system in place like in countries like Hong Kong or How can denmark be at Number 1 of transparency perception index?

    According to you what can be done in such a scenario?

      Denmark and other countries you speak of have one advantage.
      People there, in general, are law abiding, do not seek short cuts to get things done and by and large Honest.
      I am sorry to say that we, despite our culture and history ,have become dishonest and corrupt seeking short cuts in every thing right from admitting children in LKG by paying donations to buying cinema tickets in black market..
      We speak of moral values in the Society but when it comes to personal activities ,we encourage corruption, myself included.
      Now that I am at the age where it does not matter, I can say this.
      How many people can accept this?
      Answer is I can not survive unless I adjust.
      ‘Adjustment’ has become a synonym for Corruption.
      What I envisage is youngsters who fell the way you do, should come forward and start some where, not expecting immediate results.
      It takes time , but the result will be most enduring.
      Setting up an Organisation will not solve the problem unless people’s mind set changes.
      This is what we should be addressing.

        I agree with you, that it should start from us in not taking short cuts, For sure i will do that…and encourage people around me to do that. To not give fake bills, to not get cinema tickets in black market and so on for sure…..Along with the change by awareness, a system also is required which will help this, much like the laws we have, much like the Traffic rules we have, much like a manual for each one of them to see to see if they are right if they dint know about it.

        But i respect and agree to your view point that it should start from within.

        Why can’t we do this right now?It can be done at the ground level.Your views please.i am willing to do what ever it takes.What I need is youngsters with a sense of commitment and some time to spare.

    The truth is that the present Parliamentary Democratic system in India is hardly Indian. It is a copy of British model. Loknayan Jai Praksh Narayan had suggested in his book ” Communitatarian Society” (Samudayik Samaj Roop Aur Chintan) that the laws and policies of the government should be decided by the masses. The system of laws and policies being finalised by few persons who get elected on the strength of 10-12% of the total voters is faulty and is not representative of the will of the people, a sine qua non of the democracy. Our Constitution needs total upheaval.So, if people are asserting their will through the Common Cause let there be a referendum. In democracy it is the people who are the real masters.It is , we-the people of India, who have given this Constitution to ourselves. A new beginning has been made to rectify the system which is a copy of British model. This may sound unusual or unconstitutional to some, but for the common men it is the right course.

      I think you hit the nail on its head.
      People have been shouting over roof tops that the demand of Anna Hazare in all its forms, is majority opinion.
      Let this be tested by a Referendum
      Present Democratic system is Oligarchic.
      Once ‘Yeah’ is the answer,the bill may be passed in the Parliament and should become a law.
      The Bill need not be referred to State Assemblies for ratification as the Politicians will kill the Bill by delaying and arm twisting Regional Parties.
      If necessary, the Constitution must be amended.
      The present Anna Hazare course of action will be the harbinger of Anarchy.
      If one were to opine objectively, the Anna Hazare comedy seems to be played out by Media disproportionately as one can see by himself on the ground that the support for Anna is very marginal,restricted to Urban Centers and not a’a Million mutiny’ as one national newspaper makes it out to be.
      My views on Corruption and the measures to be taken are the same as any right thinking Indian,but the method of Anna is faulty.

    normally what you say is correct;we let the parliament to make laws and we just follow them;but in the case of political corruption it does not work;the politicians are just not interested in a law that will curb their corrupt activities;since corruption has reached and crossed extraordinary limits,we need to adopt extra ordinary methods;

      Kindly refer the vies of Mr.Anil Gupta and my reply.
      One point the Anna Hazare and Co seem to be silent is that they never seem to accept that there can be no Corruption without the Bribe Giver.
      Why not these people at least declare that they will offer bribes and declare that they have never bribed before?
      Why can’t they declare that still more stringent punishment to meted out to Bribe givers and this also must be included in their suggestion?

    Hi Sir,

    Once the request is not genuine its very difficult to harbour this much support. Its the frustation of our Noble Countrymen and our People’s insecurity that everybody is forcing for it. Its not just a group of people. Its 90% of the people who want a clean administration, Clean politics. There is no better way to do it.

    If there are illegal or illegitimate requests in the form of blackmail, Im sure Supreme court can stay, the parliamentarians should be able to stop such haste selfish requests.

    Ours is a democratic country, hence though for administration reasons we have Parliament and constitution, It is in the interest of the majority of the people. We enact laws by the elected representatives. It is a indirect way of representation.

    Now that the whole country except the ruling corrupt politicians want Jan Lokepal.

    The other way is to conduct a Referendum after discussion about the matter in Janlokpal.

    Which is very good , Considering the fact the corrupt politicians will never allow it to be passed.

    Leaving the way off How Annaji has gone about it. I dont see any better way to do it.

    Do you think that the corrupt and nepotist politicians will want to control themselves by a jan Lokpal,

      The issue is the means adopted by Anna will be more dangerous than the problem being faced now.

        As you are a senior and educated man,You should be well aware that our parliament itself is made up of politicians who come into this career not for social service but for making money.Instead of being cynical and pessmistic,I would like to know what have you done for mitigating corruption?Can you be like Anna..Do you have the guts to face the corrupt government on your own?The answer is No.You ,me and many other critics have lived in the cesspool of corruption all our life and see it as part of life but will not raise their voice because of personal reasons but will not stop from advising strategy of others. People like Anna Hazare come once in 50 years and you should be glad he came in your life time.

        Agreed to the extent that corruption is the most vital issue that is eating away our system.
        My point is that the way Anna Hazare is going about this will set a bad precedent.
        I have indicated in many blogs that people should first stop bribing to get things done easily.
        Any Law you want to frame should be by a process that isl awful and not going out to the streets.
        Again we must remember that a system is as good as the people who occupy positions of power.
        This applies to people in Lokpal.
        If they become power drunk the result will be worse and vesting too much power with a single organisation is very dangerous.
        Again have we utilized all the institutions to its full in fighting corruption?
        No, because people who occupy positions scuttle it including Politicians.
        And we seem to be identifying Politicians as though they are a separate species.
        They come from among us.
        Why do we elect them?
        Money power? Yes, why do we allow ourselves to be bought?
        Ultimately it comes to individuals.
        That’s the awakening we need and not paper organisations.
        I reiterate that I am not against Anna Hazare’s concern, but his way of handling it rather naively .
