Instead of flushing your money down the drain on car fuel, what if you could instead use what you’re flushing to power your car?
Scientists at Ohio University think it might be possible to use urine as hydrogen fuel by gently applying a current to the wastewater. And they’re not the only ones who think we can get more use out of urine that we currently do.
A group of UK scientists are working on a fuel cell that’s powered directly by wee.
The technology has the potential to generate power in buildings where large number of people gather, like sports stadiums and airports. Although an office building with 200 to 300 people would only generate around 2 kilowatts of power (not enough to power the building) animals could also be put to good use. The urine produced by 1,000 power could generate 40 to 50 kilowatts of pee power.
