Afghan War Winnable with out Pakistan-US.

Like Vietnam,Iraq,et al?

The US can win the Afghan war even if Pakistan does not shut down militant safe havens on its side of the border, a top US commander has said.

Deputy commander of US forces in Afghanistan Lt Gen David Rodriguez said Pakistan had launched effective operations along the north-west border.

But Islamabad needed to do more in North Waziristan, he said.

President Barack Obama’s Afghanistan war plans took two major hits this week: First, his longtime adviser and chief diplomat in the region, Richard Holbrooke, passed away unexpectedly. Now, two classified intelligence reports, one each on Afghanistan and Pakistan and intended for congressional committees, had their contents leaked to The New York Times and their findings are not good.

The reports, called National Intelligence Estimates, represent the consensus view of 16 domestic intelligence agencies without military input, the Times reports. Members of the House and Senate committees who read the reports described them to the Times.

The NIEs claim there is limited chance of success in Afghanistan unless Pakistan hunts down insurgents operating with seeming impunity from safe havens along their porous border, something the government in Islamabad has been dragging its feet on for years.

  1. Obama needs to tell the truth about the real (strategic) reasons for the US war in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The American public has a right to the truth about Pentagon/CIA support for the secession of energy and mineral rich Balochistan from Pakistan to become a US client state – just like energy and mineral rich Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and the other former Soviet republics. They need to know about CIA support for the Baloch separatist movement and their efforts to disrupt operations at the Chinese-built Gwadar Port (and the energy transit route for Iranian oil and natural gas destined for China). Including the fact that the CIA is training young Baloch separatists in bomb-making and other terrorist activities.

    I blog about this at
Where I have posted a recent map of Free Balochistan (from their website).
