    1.Family Problems.

Nobody likes to listen to a whiner.Your problems are yours.

Some times people may make use of this and try to mislead you with solutions and may even swindle you out, at the least.

Taking advice from faceless people is dangerous.

A youth committed suicide by falling in love with a girl who he found on the internet. On hearing from her that she was engaged to some body else(untrue ,of course).Pity is that the boy did not see the girl’s photo at all for she sent him her friend’s photo!

    2.Your Problems

It is better to avoid mentioning personal problems as well.

    3.Self Deprecation.

Sentimental outpourings may give you temporary relief.

To post this on the internet is to invite unscrupulous elements to cheat you.

If need be, share your problems with your close friends.

    4.Shirtless or in Skimpy Clothes.

Basically it is bad manners. Some one may misuse the visible personal marks .

There have been instances where people used this to obtain a Passport.

    5.Abnormal Hobbies

Remember the Profile is read by every one including your relatives and friends.

I have rejected a girl with whom my son’s marriage was more or less finalised, when I saw her profile ,activity and pictures in Orkut.

These type of postings may harm your personal life.

    6.You Approach to Sex.

    Same points as above,

    7.Your Intimate Details.

Again you need to have your personal space.

8.Professional Details. It is not safe to divulge the exact details.

Many employers already monitor their workers’ Facebook, Twitter and other social media pages – but the practice is set to increase.
By the year 2015, 60% of employers will monitor social media pages of their employees, a new report by data analysts Gartner has claimed.
The ‘Big Brother’ monitoring will be driven by security worries about employees leaking information or talking negatively about their workplace.

‘The growth in monitoring employee behavior in digital environments is increasingly enabled by new technology and services,’ said Andrew Walls, research vice president of Gartner.
‘Surveillance of individuals, however, can both mitigate and create risk, which must be managed carefully to comply with ethical and legal standards.’
Most employers will use their monitoring to prevent security breaches – but simply having the technology at their disposal will be a huge temptation to managers who want to know more about their staff.
‘The development of effective security intelligence and control depends on the ability to capture and analyse user actions that take place inside and outside the enterprise IT environment,’ says Walls.
Walls predicts that the practice – increasingly common in America – of asking for Facebook passwords as part of job interviews, will fade out of fashion.
Earlier this year, Facebook said it has ‘seen a distressing increase in reports of employers or others seeking to gain inappropriate access to people’s Facebook profiles or private information.’

It is not necessary that you should help them.

  • Goal Setting-How Harmful It Could Be.

I am amused by the recent trend in the Resume being prepared by those who seek jobs.

With out even knowing details of the Company to which they are applying-Standard format people write” endeavour to suit myself to the long-term and short-term goals of the Organisation, I will fulfil my responsibilities with zeal and attune my self to the goals of the Organisation and develop my self and in the process contribute to the growth of the Organisation”

Can some thing be more stupid than this!

Now coming to goal setting as such: Goal Setting

involves establishing specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-targeted (S.M.A.R.T ) goals. Work on the theory of goal-setting suggests that it’s an effective tool for making progress by ensuring that participants in a group with a common goal are clearly aware of what is expected from them. On a personal level, setting goals helps people work towards their own objectives—most commonly with financial or career-based goals. Goal setting features as a major component of personal development literature:

    • Goals provide a sense of direction and purpose” (Goldstein, 1994, p. 96).[
    • “Goal setting capitalize on the human brain‘s amazing powers: Our brains are problem-solving, goal-achieving machines.”

One really does not really know what he really wants out of Life.

Our desires keep on changing, so do our wants.

At times we feel we want to become something that appeals to us immediately , just as wanting to become a film star after seeing the popularity, other times world leader in a moment of idealistic zeal:want to become a millionaire ,want to be one with out the trappings of money and live as an ascetic; want to be a small fish in a big pond, at other times, big fish in a small pond;want to be  married with a family, live single..the list is endless.

If one were to set goals based on these thoughts one would run the risk of regretting when the interest on the basic assumption ceases and one changes track which destabilizes the individual and leads to frustration and stress.

People plan on these ‘Goals’, little realizing that for successful fruition of any task, many an agent is required and that individual planning is not sufficient.

More than this we do not know whether we will be alive the next second.

All the planning in Life is based on the fact that we will be alive!

If one wants to be happy, Be happy(Tolstoy) for being happy is the natural State of Man.

Do not burden yourself with too many goals in your Life.

Life shall set goals for you, you handle those challenges.

    Therein lies happiness.

    1. Make sure the goal you are working for is something you really want, not just something that sounds good.

I remember when I started taking baseball umpiring more seriously. I began to set my sites on the NCAA Division 1 level. Why? I new there was no way I could get onto the road to the major leagues, so the next best thing was the highest college level. Pretty cool, right. Wrong.

Sure, when I was talking to people about my umpiring goals it sounded pretty good, and many people where quite impressed. Fortunately I began to see through my own charade.

I have been involved in youth sports for a long time. I’ve coached, I’ve been the President of leagues, I’ve been a treasurer and I’m currently a District Commissioner for Cal Ripken Baseball. Youth sports is where I belong, it is where my heart belongs, not on some college diamond where the only thing at stake is a high draft spot.

When setting goals it is very important to remember that your goals must be consistent with your values.
    2. A goal can not contradict any of your other goals.

For example, you can’t buy a $750,000 house if your income goal is only $50,000 per year. This is called non-integrated thinking and will sabotage all of the hard work you put into your goals. Non-integrated thinking can also hamper your everyday thoughts as well. We should continually strive to eliminate contradictory ideas from our thinking.
    3. Develop goals in the 6 areas of life:

    Family and Home

    Financial and Career

    Spiritual and Ethical

    Physical and Health

    Social and Cultural
    Mental and Educational

Setting goals in each area of life will ensure a more balanced life as you begin to examine and change the fundamentals of everyday living. Setting goals in each area of live also helps in eliminating the non-integrated thinking we talked about in the 2nd step.
    4. Write your goal in the positive instead of the negative.

Work for what you want, not for what you want to leave behind. Part of the reason why we write down and examine our goals is to create a set of instructions for our subconscious mind to carry out. Your subconscious mind is a very efficient tool, it can not determine right from wrong and it does not judge. It’s only function is to carry out its instructions. The more positive instructions you give it, the more positive results you will get.

Thinking positively in everyday life will also help in your growth as a human being. Don’t limit it to goal setting.
    5. Write your goal out in complete detail.

Instead of writing “A new home,” write “A 4,000 square foot contemporary with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and a view of the mountain on 20 acres of land.

Once again we are giving the subconscious mind a detailed set of instructions to work on. The more information you give it, the more clearer the final outcome becomes. The more precise the outcome, the more efficient the subconscious mind can become.

Can you close your eyes and visualize the home I described above? Walk around the house. Stand on the porch off the master bedroom and see the fog lifting off the mountain. Look down at the garden full of tomatoes, green beans and cucumbers. And off to the right is the other garden full of a mums, carnations and roses. Can you see it? So can your subconscious mind.
    6. By all means, make sure your goal is high enough.

Shoot for the moon, if you miss you’ll still be in the stars. Earlier I talked about my umpiring goals and how making it to the top level of college umpiring did not mix with my values. Some of you might be saying that I’m not setting my goals high enough. Not so. I still have very high goals for my umpiring career at the youth level. My ultimate goal is to be chosen to umpire a Babe Ruth World Series and to do so as a crew chief. If I never make it, everything I do to reach that goal will make me a better umpire and a better person. If I make it, but don’t go as a crew chief, then I am still among the top youth umpires in the nation. Shoot for the moon!

  • Depression Causes and Cure.

Depression is an expression of being unhappy which you become aware of.

Suddenly you feel that nothing is working out for you and you are at odds with yourself, doubting about your job, relationship and the meaning of Life.

    Some of the symptoms are:

You get the feeling that whatever you are doing at present is worthless and might feel you are searching for something of which you are not sure.

If you happen to read books and if they happen to be depressive you sink further.

Any well-meaning advice will appear to be useless and you might feel despondent.

What one needs to know that there are no individuals or a day with out depression.

    The degree differs.

When the these low down feelings persist you become acutely depressed.

    What causes Depression?

Sometimes there may be an obvious reason for becoming depressed, sometimes not. There is usually more than one cause and different people have different reasons.

It may seem obvious why – there may be life events or changes in circumstance such as a relationship breakdown, bereavement or even the birth of a child – but sometimes it’s not clear. Either way, it can become so bad that you need help.

Often people don’t realise how depressed they are, because the depression has come on gradually. They may try to struggle on and cope by keeping busy. This can make them even more stressed and exhausted. This can cause physical pains, such as constant headaches, or sleeplessness.”

At the adolescent age, impatience to get things done causes anxiety which might lead to Depression.

The inability to achieve the set goals causes anxiety which  may result in Depression.

At an advanced age, insecurity about future,at the middle age concerns about old age might trigger Depression.

It can also be due to some biological reasons like Thyroid, metabolic imbalance in the system.

    • “An underactive or overactive thyroid gland
    • Treatments for depression

“There are two types of treatment available: talking treatments and medication. Both can be accessed through your doctor.”

      Talking treatments

      • Counselling helps you to talk about your feelings in private with a sympathetic professional. Your GP may have a counsellor at the surgery.
      • Cognitive behavioural therapy can help to overcome the powerful negative thoughts that are part of depression.
      • Interpersonal and dynamic therapies can help if you have difficulties getting on with other people. A relationship counsellor might be helpful if you’re having difficulties with your partner.
      • If you have a disability or are caring for a relative, a self-help group may give you support.

      Medication

Antidepressants can be effective if depression is severe or goes on for a long time. They may help feelings of anxiety and help you to deal with problems effectively again.

The effects of antidepressants won’t usually be felt straight away – people often don’t notice any improvement in their mood for two or three weeks.

As well as tablets, an alternative remedy called St John’s wort is available from chemists. There is evidence that it’s effective in mild to moderate depression. It seems to work in much the same way as some antidepressants, but some people find it has fewer side effects. You should discuss taking it with your doctor, particularly if you’re taking other medication.”

Like all medicines, antidepressants have some side effects, although these are usually mild and tend to wear off as the treatment goes on. The newer antidepressants (called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) may cause nausea and anxiety for a short while. The older antidepressants can cause dry mouth and constipation. Unless the side effects are very bad, your doctor will usually advise you to continue taking them.

Four out of five people with depression will get better without help. The shorter the time you have been depressed, the better the chance that it will lift on its own. However, even with treatment, one in five people will still be depressed two years later.

      Support

It may be enough to talk things over with a relative or friend. If this doesn’t help, talk it over with your family doctor.

      • Talk to someone close to you about how you feel. Going over a painful experience and crying it out can help you come to terms with it.
      • Get some regular exercise. This will help you keep fit and hopefully, sleep better. Do jobs around the house to take your mind off thoughts that make you depressed.
      • Eat well, even if you don’t feel like it. Don’t drink alcohol, as this makes depression worse, although it might not seem to at first.
      • If you can’t sleep, try not to worry about it. Do something relaxing in bed such as reading, watching TV or listening to the radio.
      • If you know what is making you depressed, write it down and think of ways to tackle it. Pick the best ones and see if they help.
      • Keep hopeful – this is a very common experience and you will come through it, probably stronger and more able to cope than before.”
One must remember that the treatments are only supports and one can definitely beat depression only by him/herself.
Antidepressants might help to calm the mind chemically ,but over a period of time these drugs might become habit-forming if they are Barbiturate based.
Even Alfazolam  may be contra-indicated for some.
Counseling is effective only if one is ready to receive advice, be it a Counselor or Relatives or friends.
Normally under the spell of Depression, the mind will refuse.
Normal advice is to take safe antidepressants under the advice of a qualified Physician .
      Never exceed the dose.
In general, one must know the facts of Life.
      Life is what it is.
Do not analyse and judge your or other’s Life.
Learn to look at Facts ,not impressions.
We generally carry impressions and hardly look at facts.
Never attempt to ascribe motives for the behavior of others around you.
Planning is fine but too much thinking and planing is unhealthy.
This puts one under pressure because Life has to be run, with interaction with others whether one likes it or not and we can not control what others think of us nor can we control circumstances.
      Plan for a shorter period.
Remember none knows whether he/she will be alive the next second.
Do not think you are indispensable, the world has been here before you were born and will  be after you go.
Never think you are the one who supports Family or you are indispensable at work either.
Do what you have to do with out reasoning out for Life has to felt and Lived ,not analyzed.
Those who feel that they can not reach their goals should know that any activity you undertake depends on various factors, some of them under your control, most of them out of your control.
So do the best you can and not be anxious.
      Results will come.
It is worth noting that if you achieve whatever you want in a very short span of Time, you will have nothing to live for.
Life can be led joyously only when we have something unattainable as well.
      Also have Faith.
Do not question every thing in Life for ultimately you will end up as a mental patient, probably this might take some time.
It could be any Faith , may also be Atheism.
Read Books that are light and Books are Optimistic.
Be with people who are not whiners.
People around those who suffer from Depression must not judge those who are  as they could become  one the next day.
Be positive and talk things that are joyous and optimistic and avoid serious pontificating.

Alcohol becomes your master with out your knowing you becoming you having become its slave.

None of those I have seen have ever admitted that they have become hooked to Alcohol despite visible signs that they are.

When confronted with Scientific evidence that it is root cause for man serious illnesses, they question Science which they normally accept in other cases.

Apart from health problems, a Drunk is never taken seriously and he /she loses social credibility , esteem and respect in the society, even in societies where drinking is accepted as a social culture.

They lose respect from Family, friends and at the work place.

Even when they are right nobody would believe them .

Please correct before it is too late.

We know that drinking too much alcohol is bad for us. It gives us hangovers, makes us feel tired and does little for our appearance – and that is just the morning afterwards.

Long term, it increases the risk of developing a long list of health conditions including breast cancer, oral cancers, heart disease, strokes and cirrhosis of the liver.

Research shows that a high alcohol intake can also damage our mental health, impair memory skills and reduce fertility….

  • ‘Burnout in Job’ feeling’ -This too Shall Pass..

Of late we hear the term ‘burn out’ complaints from  people from various Professions.

It is not restricted to workers alone.

It is being aired by Sportsmen and other professionals too.

It is not as though that this is a new phenomenon.

You get distracted, become disinterested in what you are doing, not happy with what you are doing at present, irritability, sense of not doing well in your job and psychosomatic disorders.

    Let us understand this.

When some one has been doing things regularly and keeps on reflecting on it,this  some times is influenced by peer Group, one gets the feeling you have had enough.

    Right.

This is your present state of mind rather impressions triggered by constant reflection on what you have been doing or it might be what is called ‘reaching the Plateau’

    This is normal.

A little further reflection will show you that when you are off from what you have been doing, especially in a profession, after a couple of days later you shall be wanting to do the thing you want now to avoid.

Then you might not get what you want and the frustration that it entails will be very severe.

Your self-esteem will take a beating then.

We all do certain things in Life whether we like them or not for they are the very essence  for our well-being both economically and emotionally.

One must understand that these fleeting impressions are really what they are,- temporary.

Best is to ride it out by taking a break ,say, for a couple of weeks keeping away from what you have been doing and spend time with family and friends and have a change of place for an outing.

    Have Hobbies.

If you don’t have one, develop one-like Reading ,writing  anything.

If you are a believer ,Trust in God and do what you ought to.

You will find that you loved what you have been doing all along.

And don’t think too much – do not take these impressions and your self-analysis seriously.

Too much of Rationalization shall kill the Joy of Living.

In Life , nothing is Rational.

    This too shall Pass.

Mind you this is from one who used to act impulsively at the drop of a hat and regretted it later.

Working conditions are important determinants of health. The aims of this article are to 1) identify working conditions and work characteristics that are associated with workers’ perceptions that their work is harmful to their health and 2) identify with what symptoms these working conditions are associated.

We used the Swiss dataset from the 2005 edition of the European Working Conditions Survey. The dependent variable was based on the question “Does your work affect your health?”. Logistic regression was used to identify a set of variables collectively associated with self-reported work-related adverse health effects.

A total of 330 (32%) participants reported having their health affected by work. The most frequent symptoms included backache (17.1%), muscular pains (13.1%), stress (18.3%) and overall fatigue (11.7%). Scores for self-reported exposure to physicochemical risks, postural and physical risks, high work demand, and low social support were all significantly associated with workers’ perceptions that their work is harmful to their health, regardless of gender or age. A high level of education was associated with stress symptoms, and reports that health was affected by work was associated with low job satisfaction.

Many workers believe that their work affects their health. Health specialists should pay attention to the potential association between work and their patients’ health complaints. This is particularly relevant when patients mention symptoms such as muscular pains, backache, overall fatigue, and stress. Specific attention should be given to complaints of stress in highly educated workers.
