It has become the habit of politicians on winning the Elections to declare that’people have decided’
Widow of YSR has already stated that Jagan Reddy is innocent and the cases were foisted.
Jagan Reddy
We know what happens in Elections.
Even assuming that the Elections are fair,it does not prove the innocence of the accused.
At times like these, one tends to agree to the view that people who are served charge sheets should not stand for elections.
I am aware that by this yardstick none of our current politicians can stand for Elections!
The only way out is for people to weed out the corrupt, though it sounds utopian now.
The alternative will be chaos.
“The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) bagged the Nellore Lok Sabha and 14 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, after results of the state bypolls were declared on Friday.
The counting of votes began at 8am on Friday amid tight security in the constituencies spread over 12 districts. About 70 per cent polling was recorded in Nellore and an average 80 per cent in the 18 assembly constituencies in the by-elections held on Tuesday.
The byelections were caused by the resignation of one member of parliament and disqualification of 17 legislators of the Congress party who had switched loyalties to the YSRCP.
Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy of the YSRCP retained Nellore Lok Sabha seat with a massive majority of more than 290,000 votes over his nearest rival and former central minister T Subbarami Reddy of the Congress party.
YSRCP formed by Jaganmohan Reddy, the son of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy — popularly known as YSR, is also heading for victory in Tirupati assembly constituency.
The Tirupati assembly seat fell vacant after the election of actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi to the Rajya Sabha.
The results mean YSRCP wrested 13 seats won by Congress in 2009 and one seat from Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), which has now merged with Congress. TRS snatched one seat from Congress.
The Congress drew solace from the fact that it escaped a total humiliation by retaining two seats. This will improve the ruling party’s slender majority in the 294-member house. With two seats its tally has now gone up to 154.
TRS managed to scrape through in Parkala, the only assembly seat which went to poll in the Telangana region. In a neck and neck battle, TRS candidate Bhikshapati defeated YSRCP’s Konda Surekha by over 800 seats. Surekha, who was trailing at fourth position till the 14th round of counting, gave a good fight to TRS.
YSRCP received a jolt with the defeat of its top leaders P Subhash Chandra Bose and Konda Surekha. Both were ministers in the YSR cabinet and had switched loyalties to YSRCP. Subhash Chandra Bose lost from Ramachandrapuram constituency in East Godavari district.
The scramble for power between Karunanidhi’s sons,M.K.Stalin and Mu.Ka.Azhagiri is well-known.
The issue has been cropping up off and on.
Recently it erupted in the DMK General Council Meeting when Veerapandi Arumugam, ex Minister and a known Azhagiri loyalist and Stalin baiter started attacking Stalin indirectly and he was booed and the situation made Karunanidihi to challenge his son Stalin to contest the Election for the post of DMK Chief against him.
Exasperated K.Anbazhagan,Rubber Stamp Secretary of DMK and a sycophant of Karunanidhi quoted Ramayana, which is regularly criticised by DMK leaders right from stating that it is well nigh impossible for Sita to have retained her chastity after having been in Ravana’s prison(Annadurai in Kambarasam,a book written by him to insult the Ramayana) to calling Lord Rama names by Karunanidhi) to pacify the warring factions of the DMK brothers.
What a Rationalism!
“The “rationalist” DMK in Tamil Nadu has now turned to the ‘Ramayana’, a text that its Dravidian movement mentor Periyar had decried, to help soften the blow from the latest bout of sibling rivalry that reared its ugly head at the recently concluded general council meeting………
Even the 88-year-old party patriarch M Karunanidhi was shell-shocked at this open tussle that he saw in it a “conspiracy” to break the unity within.
Karunanidhi was so disgusted at this turn of events that he told his partymen to “elect their own new leader”, but was persuaded by seniors on stage to stay on, sources told Deccan Herald. Also, Karunanidhi’s elder son M K Alagiri studiously kept away from the evening session when the inner-party struggle popped up again. Though Veerapandi S Arumugam is known for such abrasive remarks, given the 90-years-old Prof Anbazhagan’s vast experience as DMK’s general secretary since 1977, could not dismiss it as a routine surface rift.
In the larger backdrop, when two of the DMK’s senior-most leaders are handling a crucial leadership transition in the party, amid the image dent it has suffered in the wake of the ‘2G’ scam and other issues, Anbazhagan decided to bite the bullet as a Tamil scholar…..
Anbazhagan thus came out candidly, urging everyone to learn a lesson or two from ‘Ramayana’, “though I have criticised it in the past”. The travails of Rama were many, but Barath did not exploit his adversity. Likewise, Rama’s two other brothers, Lakshman and Shatrugnan, stood by him and there was a “rare unity among the brothers despite differences.”
P.S.When MGR was convalescing in the US, elections were called and MGR could not campaign as he was in the US under treatment.
At that time Karunanidhi beseeched the voters to elect him as he ‘would run the Government on behalf of MGR as Bharath did with Lord Rama’s footwear as the Ruler!”
Karunanidhi, the self-appointed Dravidian Leader of Dravidians(?) and Leader Of Tamils( who sat through the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanks and whose daughter Kanimozhi hobnobbed with Rajapakshe in SriLanka and accepted bouquets and gifts from him ),having been made to bite the dust in the Tamil Nadu hustings, unable to stem the war of acrimony and struggle to capture his party by his sons and besieged by 2 G scam has been trying vigorously to capture the imagination of the voters.
His Party’s Self-determination for Tamil Nadu and a separate Statehood has been given a decent burial and he can not revive it now for fear of the party being banned.
He is a chap who went on to bury The Constitution of India(that’s what he said, while burning a copy of the Constitution) only to declare later in the Court that he had burned a piece of paper and not the Constitution!
He is a guy who laid down on Rail Track knowing pretty well that there are no Trains that will pass through then.
He is the moral authority on Kannagi who has a Wife and ‘Thunaivi’ openly
Nor can he cry hoarse on the domination of North over South by shouting ‘வடக்கு வாழ்கிறது ,தெற்கு தேய்கிறது ‘ as his son’s post as a Central Minister and the fate of his Daughter Kanimozhi and great-nephew Dayanidhi Maran hinges on Sonia Gandhi‘s whims; he had to wait on wheel chair to get postings for his relatives at the Centre, wait for hours to meet Sonia Gandhi.
What of his much touted ‘Self Respect?’
His call for demanding Devikulam and Peermedu from Kerala for Tamil Nadu in the wake of Mullai Periyar Dam issue had no takers.
Nor can he talk about Hindi as he is at the feet of Hindi.
So his favorite whipping boy is Brahmins(that his statements that he is against Brahminism and not against Brahmins is another comedy).
Brahmins do not beg for Reservations nor do they call other Communities names.
They do not harass SC/ST.
Take the Statistics of SC/ST harassment cases-how many Brahmins were involved?
When DMK came to power late Bhaktavatsalam, former CM of Tamil Nadu, stated that vermin has infested Tamil Nadu, which has come true and Tamil Nadu has not been able to get rid of these thugs, who find opportunity in every thing to steal from the Public.
Brahmins never retaliated for it is not in their blood.
They quietly slipped away from Tamil Nadu to other States and Countries.
Will Karunanidhi divulge the names of his Doctors, Lawyers and other Professionals whom he goes to for advice?
I know personally a couple of Doctors , Lawyers and Accountants who are Brahmins with whom Karunanidhi consults.
What is Karunanidhi’s contribution to Tamil Literature as compared to Nakkerar(not porn tabloid Nakkeran), Agasthiyar, Tholkappiyar,Uruthinkannanaar,Kapilar,Gnana Sambandar,Periyazhvaar, and a host of others from the Sangam period to Bharathi,U.Ve.Saminatha Iyer,Ki,Va.Jagannathan?
Karunanidhi can write street Prose which sounds nice to the ears but does not stand the scrutiny of Tamil Grammar, convert Tholkaapiyam, a great Work, into soft porn in Tholkappiyappoonga.
He has not so far replied to mistakes pointed out in his Tholkaapiyappoonga in a Book , which incidentally was not written by a Brahmin
To day nobody bothers about castes, ask any youngster,he will ask you’what’.
If Tamil Magazines/Papers praise him then they are’நடு நிலை ஏடுகள் ; other wise they are’மவுண்ட் ரோடு மஹா விஷ்ணு, பார்ப்பன ஏடுகள்’
Disgusting creature worthy to be ignored.
I write this piece only to high light his non sense and double speak.
This author does not believe in divisions in the Society as portrayed by Karunanidhi nor is he against those who do nor happen to be Brahmins.
In the strictest sense of Hinduism there is no Brahmin today.
(Why cant the Government take action against him for inciting violence and breeding enmity between Communities amounting to Law and Order problem?
SONIA GANDHI, the Italian head of India’s ruling Congress Party and widow of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, has launched a legal campaign to stop the publication of a “fictionalized biography” based on her life.
Mrs. Gandhi has taken exception to her portrayal in “The Red Sari” – by the Spanish writer Javier Moro – as a snob who wanted to leave India following her husband’s 1991 assassination. The book also portrays her as a central figure in Indira Gandhi’s 1975 imposition of emergency rule.
Authors and filmmakers have been drawn to the romance and tragedy of Mrs. Gandhi’s life. She married Indira Gandhi’s son Rajiv after meeting him at Cambridge in the mid- 1960s and was living with his family in New Delhi when his brother Sanjay died in a plane crash and Indira was killed by her Sikh guards. In 1991 Rajiv was assassinated by a Tamil suicide bomber.
Mr Moro’s book, which has been successful in Italy and Spain, is expected to be published in India later this year.
Lawyers for Mrs Gandhi yesterday described the book as “full of untruths, half truths, falsehoods, defamatory statements, completely imaginary and invented conversations”. They said she would “take all steps to protect and defend herself and her family”.
She appears to have been most wounded by its claim that she had wanted to leave India, describing it as “this country that devours its children” and had complained about having to learn to speak Hindi. In the book, Mr Moro writes that “Sonia did not understand why she had to learn a language only spoken by the servants”.
Both are potentially damaging for Mrs. Gandhi whose Italian nationality is used against her by opponents and whose supporters are overwhelmingly poor Hindi speaking voters.
Mr Moro yesterday defended his claim that she had wanted to leave India. “There were articles in the Italian papers. After her husband died, her mother called, and it’s logical that she asked, “When are you coming home?” It’s not far-fetched, it’s a literary licence,” he said.
An unauthorised “fictional biography” of Sonia Gandhi has angered the leader of India’s Congress party — prompting threats from her lawyer to block its publication.
Javier Moro, a Spanish writer, says his book El Sari Rojo (The Red Sari), which has already sold 230,000 copies, dramatises the “tale of the Nehru-Gandhi family, told through the story of Sonia Gandhi” and is not meant to be a conventional biography.
Mrs Gandhi’s lawyer says that the book, about to be published in English, is full of distortions. The Gandhi camp is particularly incensed by the way she is depicted as a victim of her Hindu environment.
Mr Moro’s account, about to come out in English, dwells on her relatively modest upbringing in Italy before she met Rajiv Gandhi while studying in Cambridge and moved to India to be his wife in 1968.
….
Abhishek Singhvi, spokesman for the Congress Party spokesman and head of its legal department, told The Times that he met Mrs Gandhi on Wednesday to discuss the book, and planned to sue for defamation if it was published in India.
“Mr Moro and his publisher, if they persist in their egregious conduct, will soon learn that India is governed by the rule of law, which includes the law of defamation,” Mr Singhvi said.
“For Mr Moro to pretend to be the injured martyr and talk of censorship is worse than the devil quoting the scriptures.”
He said there were cited a “huge list of distortions” including a passage describing how Hindu priests prevented Mrs Gandhi from attending her husband’s cremation.
He also disputed a passage describing how, after her husband’s death, she “suddenly thought of fleeing this country that devours its children”.
“Mr Moro’s refuge in the phrase ‘fictionalised biography’ is disingenuous,” he said.
It is not the first time Congress has tried to block an unauthorised dramatisation of Mrs Gandhi’s life: in 2006, it stopped the production of a film about her starring Monica Bellucci.
This year, a Bollywood film about a woman politician resembling Mrs Gandhi has had problems obtaining a universal classification from censors.
Congress has also been blamed for shutting down the office of an Urdu-language newspaper in Kashmir this week over a derogatory caption under a picture of Mrs Gandhi.
Sonia Gandhi’s involvement with Indian public life began after the assassination of her mother-in-law and her husband’s election as Prime Minister. As the Prime Minister’s wife she acted as his official hostess and also accompanied him on a number of state visits.[citation needed] In 1984, she actively campaigned against her husband’s sister-in-law Maneka Gandhi who was running against Rajiv in Amethi. At the end of Rajiv Gandhi’s five years in office, the Bofors Scandal broke out. Ottavio Quattrocchi, an Italian business man believed to be involved, was said to be a friend of Sonia Gandhi, having access to the Prime Minister’s official residence. In 1980, her name appeared in the voter’s list for New Delhi prior to her becoming an Indian Citizen, when she was still holding Italian Citizenship.[19] It was a violation of Indian Laws.[20] When she did acquire Indian Citizenship in April 1983, the issue cropped up again, as her name appeared on the 1983 voter’s list when the deadline for registering had been in January 1983.
Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee said that she surrendered her Italian passport to the Italian Embassy on 27 April 1983. Italian nationality law did not permit dual nationality until 1992. So, by acquiring Indian citizenship in 1983, she would automatically have lost Italian citizenship.
Orchestrated voices are calling Rahul into the Cabinet.
‘Congress General Secretary, Digvijaya Singh on Sunday said that Rahul Gandhi was now a mature person with sound political instincts, and can become the Prime Minister.
“I think it is time that Rahul can become the Prime Minister,” Singh said, talking to PTI.
“Rahul is now 40 and he has been working for the party for the last seven to eight years,” Singh said.
The scion of Gandhi family had the right qualities, instincts and experience to take up the mantle of the prime minister-ship now, Singh said.’
Manmohan Singh is being dragged into 2 G scam through well planned leaks of leaks.( I have published some of the documents in my last blog’2G Manmohan Singh knew all’)
Official defense by the Congress party of Manmohan Singh is very weak and low.
Manmohan Singh was exposed as a weak PM ( as though he were not one before) during the current Anna Hazare Fast.
Rahul Gandhi comes out with the proposal of Constitutional Amendment, not Pranab Muherjee ,not Chidambaram not Manmohan Singh.
As soon as he comes out with this proposal,Congress strikes a conciliatory note and offers a truce to Anna Hazare Movement.
Now Sonia is ill.
What better tome to bring in Rahul Gandhi, with limited ,yet sufficient time for next General Elections, by projecting Rahul Gandhi as the PM, who has solved the tricky issue of Corruption?
