Brahmin Gotra List

I published a Post on the Surnames of Brahmin Community.

I had in my mind to publish a complete list of Brahmin Gotras.

I promptly forgot about it.

Couple of Days ago when I received an alliance proposal for my brother’s Grandson, I was unable to check the Gotra, whether it belongs to the Brahmin Community.

Later I checked it out and it was a Gotra of Brahmin Community.

I am posting a list from the available resources and people may also contribute with authentication to make this List a Comprehensive one.

Each gotra takes the name of a famous Rishi or sage.

Gotra is a concept of patrilineal classification, which identifies the families of a caste.

The original rishis after whom the gotras were named were just Seven in number .

Gotras were further subdivided into ganas and sub ganas.

Another concept is that of Pravara of Rishis who were a few of the most learned and capable sages belonging to that gotra.

Each Brahmin was thus known by his gotra, pravar, sutra and shakha.

There are exceptions to the rule too. For example the descendents of Maharishis Bhrigu and Angirasa cannot marry, because of the same Pravara Rishis, which are common to the two individuals.

The weddings in India are fixed as per the Gotra of the bride and groom.

Gotra matching is one of the most important concerns in North indian Hindu matrimony.

Wedding in similar Gotra is strictly prohibited.

A Gotra has three Rishis.

This indicates the fact some of the Rishis had more than one wife, at different times , for example Parasara.

I that case the male offspring from each of the Wives are added and the third if there are any more differentiation.

Readers may contribute in this area.

Another instance is when a Rishi changes his Varna.

Viswamitra was a Kshatriya and his original name was Kausika.

Later he became a Brahmin after he reealized Brahma Gnana.

Then he was called a Barhmin and his Gotra was changed from Kausika to Viswamitra.

Namaskaram Sir, Thank you so much for sharing the valuable information about Gothra And also thank you for doing Detailed Analysis. You have done an amazing work. I Came to know about your blog through google search, and found the treasure (Knowledge Bank). Though I Am Not A Brahmin, But I Have Some Query Regarding Alambayan/Alambain Gothra. Actually, My Gothra Is Alambayan , but My Father Used To Say As Allimman. One day i went to the house of an astrologer And from there, i got the correct information that, The spelling will be Alambayan. Sir, My Question: 1. What was the name of the sage according to this gothra?. 2. Does this gothra belong to brahmins?. 3. What will be the caste under this gothra ?. This is my humble request to you, kindly write something on this godhra, and i will be waiting for your answers. Thank you. My email id: dulalkarmakar098@gmail.com

A survey of Gothras among iyers (Tamil Speaking Brahmins)
    Complied by
    P.R.Ramachander
Gothras among Brahmins is supposed to be patrilineal groups among them. They are believed to have originated from the Gothra rishi. I wanted to know how the gothras are spread among Tamil speaking iyers and undertook this survey. As a part of arm chair research I went through several issues of Sruthivani and Mukthipriya magazines which give matrimonial advertisements of Iyers. From them using the data of 3507 advertisements, I could find that , they belong to 51 Gothras( There may be many more Gothras, which has not come in my survey.

Even Today, there are a sizeable number of PRACTISING brahmins following many rituals and traditions…but there is a SILENT participation in society by them, since even a SLIGHTLY MORE INTELLIGENT response by a brahmin boy, quickly brings a host of associated issues, mainly envy and the attempt by the merely BORN BRAHMIN but not practising ones, to ERASE the bright ones, are too high…There are some NRI brahmins who have the CONCEPT all too very dissolved in them that they are BRIGHT BY BIRTH and these ones with the TEJAS within them and already in an ACTIVATED state, by birth itself, are the rare gems since they are the crown of existence of the practising brahmins…They too have returned and moved away from Indian Shores and the ones here in India maintain a SILENT PRESENCE, since it is better to remain somewhere in a SILENT form and keep the FLAME ALIVE than to emerge out in the open and see the FLAME SNUFFED OUT by the JEALOUS and DANGEROUS fellow-brahmins ( if you may call the mere BORN brahmins, with the term BRAHMIN ).So, many brahmins have turned SILENT.

        ==================================================================
        In the Vedas
        Vishwakarma is visualized as
        Ultimate reality (later developed as
Brahman) in the Rig Veda,[2] from
        whose navel all visible things
        Hiranyagarbha emanate. The same
        imagery is seen in Yajurveda
purusha sukta, in which the divine
        smith Tvastar emerging from
        Vishwakarma.[3] In the later puranic
period this concept paved the way to
        the imagery of Padmanabha and
        Sadasiva.
In the Vedic period the term first
appeared as an epithet of Indra,
Surya, and Agni. In that time the later
        developed creator concept of
        Brahma might have been
        intertwined with the concept of
        Vastospati and Bṛhaspati, or
        Brahmanaspathi[4] In the last phase
of vedic period and during the
        growth of monotheism, this realistic
        God concept becoming more
        abstract and one can see
        Vishwakarma [the invisible creative
        power] emerged as the supreme
god[5] who was perceived as a hotar,
the unborn [Aja] creator and name
giver of all other gods who have lot
        of faces, eyes and feet on every side;
        and who helps Tvashtar,[the visible
        creative power of viswakarma] in
        producing all the Heavenly, Earthly
        and other Celestial realms and
        preserves them through the
exercise of his arms and wings. He
sacrificed himself to himself for the
evolution of this visible world, thus
he is Purusha or Narayana[6] His
        attributes like Vachaspathy[7]
        connect him with Brahaspathi (the
        Guru of Gods). Again, Yajurveda
pictured him as the Prajapati[8] and
in the Atharva veda he is [9]
        mentioned as Pashupati.
        Shwethashwatharopanishad
described him as Rudrasiva, the one
who is dwelling in all living forms.
[10] Na Bhoomir Na Jalam Chaiva Na
        Teejo Nacha Vaayavaha Na chakasam
        na chitthasha Na budhi khrana
        gocharam Nacha Brahmaa Na
        Vishnuscha Na Rudrascha Taarakaaha
        Sarvashoonya niralambam
        Swayambhu Viswakarmana.
According to the above hymn, from
        Moolastambha purana which is
        something similar to Nasadeeya
suktha It/He was the one who
        created himself from thyself when
there was no earth, water, light, air
        and akasha,and even the
Thrimurthies Later in the post vedic
        and brahmanic period, the term
Vishwakarma is appeared both as the
Rsi and the Silpi. In yajurveda the
term is seen as one of names of
pancha risis. Though the term is an
epithet of suryanarayana, one of the
seven rays of Surya is also known as
        Viswakarma. Bhuvana Vishwakarma
        (Atharva/Angirasa Gothra) is a vedic
Rsi who was the author of Rg
        10-81,82 suktha, (Prabasa
        Vishwakarma) was probably a silpi
and the son of Prabhas, the eighth
hermit of the legendary Astam vasu
        and Yogasiddha, sister of Brihaspati.
He is said to have revealed the
Sthapatya Veda / Vastu Shastra or
        fourth Upa-veda, and presides over
        the sixty-four mechanical arts.
Vishvakarma [ God ] created five
prajapathies — from his five faces
        such as Sadyojāta,Vāmadeva,
        Aghora,Tatpuruṣha,Īsāna.[11] They
        are Manu, Maya, Twosta, Silpy,
        Viswajna and their respective Rishis
        are
        1. Sanaga Brahma Rishi
        2. Sanaathana Brahma Rishi
        3. Ahbhuvanasa Brahma Rishi
        4. Prathnasa Brahma Rishi
        5. Suparnasa Brahma Rishi
and created five Vedas:- from his five
        faces such as RigVeda, SamaVeda,
        YajurVeda, AtharvanaVeda,
        PranavaVeda.
In later puranas he is sometimes
        identified with vedic Tvastar.[12]
Silpi Vishwakarma is the designer of
all the flying chariots of the gods,
and all their weapons and divine
        attributes. Vishwakarma/Tvostar is
        also credited with creating the
        missiles used in the mythological
era, including the Vajra, the sacred
weapon of Lord Indra, from the
bones of sage Dadhichi. He is
        regarded as the supreme worker,
the very essence of excellence and
        quality in craftsmanship.

Normally the father’s Gotra is passed on.In cases where there is an intercaste marriage between two varnas ,sometimes if the woman belongs to a Gotra other than Brahmin, she might have named the Gotra from her parents’ side.Other explanation is that some Brahnin communities absorb their vocation along with their Gotra.

Dixit or Deekshith refers to the fact that an ancestor or immediate family member or self, formally was initiated ( Given deeksha ) into the MOOLA MANTHRA ( BEEJA MANTHRA ) ( SEED MANTHRA ) ( DIRECT INVOCATION MANTHRA ) by a qualified Guru. This is a very huge and significant mile-stone achieved in the life of a person since he/she gets promoted to very high levels of spiritual existence. It is extremely significant since a Guru would initiate ( give deeksha ) only to a select few. Even there, to obtain deeksha in the manthras of the highest forms of God ( six main Gods of hinduism ) some of which directly confer the fruit and power instantly to the person ( such a person being called siddha mantra ), is very rare. The spiritual stature of the guru and guru parampara too is very significant. That world of deep significance is a secret science and hence a DIXIT in the family means a very significant and meritorious thing to happen to that family and entire line of ancestors and descendants. This is the ACTUAL CONCEPT of having the surname DIXIT or DIKSHITH or DEEKSHITH. In simple sanskrit, this means ” A PERSON WHO HAS FOR HIMSELF OR HIS ANCESTORS HAVING OBTAINED DEEKSHA FORMALLY FROM A GURU “. There is an elaborate ritual followed while initiating a person and age is not a constraint. Even young children have been initiated. The Guru spots his / her disciple. It is a divine event. Obtaining deeksha from one’s mother is eight times more powerful. Now these details are too elaborate to be outlined here and hence having given the gist of these, I conclude by saying that these are considered so much of a secret that not many details are revealed since that is how the law of nature dictates as a rule.

No Shri Ramanan. Here I produce the list of the caste of the father, mother and the children, under different types of union ( inter-caste ). This is a rare piece of information that is mentioned in the vedic scriptures. Here it is.

Anuloma means in the natural order (union between a elevated caste man and a subordinate class woman) and pratiloma is its reverse

Father + Mother = Progeny [ known as (Anuloma or Pratiloma type) – Is of this caste. Only the progeny ( children get genetically transformed into this caste. Parents remain genetically the caste into which they were born ]
[ But if it is a pratiloma union ( Union between an elevated caste woman and sub-ordinate class man ), then the father ( man ), the mother ( woman ) and the children, all of them get transformed genetically to the castes as mentioned below, as per the category applicable to them.
        Brahman + Brahman = Brahman
        Brahman + Kshatriya = Brahmakshatriya ( also called murdhabhishiktha ) ( Anuloma )
        But brahmakshatriya + brahmakshatriya = Anuloma ( But Non-Kshatriya )

Brahman + Vaishya = Ambashta (Anuloma)
Brahman + Shudra = Nishad (Parasava) (Anuloma)
Kshatriya + Brahman = Suta (Pratiloma)
        Kshatriya + Vaishya = Anuloma
Kshatriya + Shudra = Ugra (Anuloma)
Vaishya + Brahman = Vaidehaka (Pratiloma)
        Vaishyav Kshatriya = Magadha (Pratiloma)
Vaishya + Shudra = Karana (Anuloma)
Shudra + Brahman = Chandala (Pratiloma)
Shudra + Kshatriya = Ksattri (Pratiloma)
Shudra + Vaishya = Ayogava (Pratiloma)

PROGENY OF ARYAN CASTES WITH ANULOMA-PRATILOMA CASTES

Father + Mother = Progeny Known As
        1. Brahman + Ugra = Avrita
        2. Brahman + Ambashta = Dhigvana
        3. Brahman + Nishada = Kukutaka
        4. Shudra + Abhira = Abhira

PROGENY OF MIXED MARRIAGES BETWEEN ANULOMA AND PRATILOMA CASTES
Father + Mother = Progeny known as
        1. Vaideha + Ayogava = Maitreyaka
        2. Nishada + Ayogava = Margava (Das)/Kaivarta
        3. Nishada + Vaideha = Karavara
        4. Vaidehaka + Ambashta = Vena
        5. Vaidehakav Karavara = Andhra
        6. Vaidehaka + Nishada = Meda
        7. Chandala + Vaideha = Pandusopaka
        8. Nishada + Vaideha = Ahindaka
        9. Chandala + Pukkassa = Sopaka
        10. Chandala + Nishada = Antyavasin
        11. Kshattari + Ugra = Swapaka

No. Technically speaking it is not so. If you see the list, it is brahmakshatriya. Long ago, around the early 1990s, i remember a brahmin mutt refusing to conduct the upanayanam of a boy whose father was a brahmin but mother kshatriya.

This list places the brahmin father and kshatriya mother’s children as brahmakshatriya and not brahmins

        Natarajan Iyer

        1) Patriarchal society is a mis-nomer. The term PATRIARCHAL has now become a derogatory reference to the natural ability of the Man alone to create ( fetch a soul to earth, in spiritual terms ). Irrespective of what feminists and others say, no matter how vociferously, the fact of nature remains so and it is wisdom to adhere to that law of nature. But that line of speech would see us unnecessarily arguing with multiple groups. So, over a period of time, even the vedic experts within the mutt maintain silence since it is said ” The fate of kali yugam is this. So, why get worked up ? ” So, each one performing his duty brings good to entire humanity. This is how many families live today.

        2) The list from the vedas clearly speak of the category into which the offspring between a brahmin father and a woman belong to.

So, the other two varnas DO NOT get brahmin gotra.

Biologically the offspring between a Lion and Tigress is called a LIGER. It is neither a lion nor a tiger.

Even a red rose and yellow rose when subject to hybridization, gives a mixed colour. It gives neither a red rose nor a yellow rose.

But red rose and red rose give red rose. Yellow rose and Yellow rose, give yellow rose.

Similarly among humans too. That list is a scientific categorization when the english language was nowhere around. Hence the sanskritized terms might sound strange. But that is more due to lack of orientation towards sanskrit. Scientifically it reflects the effect produced when two individuals from two diverse inner designs ( genetic frame-work ), co-habitat and produce off-springs.

        3) Mutt cannot do anything by rote. They have to follow the vedic injunctions. They do exactly that. Maybe, it is incomprehensible to the common folk who have moved far away from many a fact of nature and vedic life.

Dhritarashtra and Pandu were born to Veda Vyasa and kshatriya women Ambika and Ambalika (Kasiraj daughters), why do Mahabaharata mention them Dhritarashtra and Pandu and their offspring as Kshtriyas?

This is a very good question. Usually I do not get into explanations since the detailed explanations have to stop at some point where experience and silence are the next in sequential order as per the law of nature.

But this wordpress blog spot of Mr.Ramanan is presently, as of today, among the few ones that are rendering good service and hence let me reply to your questions here. The thread-cloth illustration directly answers your question. But read this first and then proceed to that part contained in this reply since that would bring more clarity.

      1) In tamil, there is a proverb ” rishi moolam nadhee moolam thaeda koodadhu ”
Meaning “ Do not attempt to trace the root of a great sage and a river “

Because the two are not ordinary truths but they are extraordinary truths.

Antae rishi moolamu nadhee moolamu chooda koodadhu.

Yendhukantae, adhee saamaanya sathyamu kaadhu, asaamaanya sathyamu.

      How ?

Say for example, there are four Men. One Man is capable of identifying pure petrol but not anything else.

Another Man is capable of identifying pure oil but not anything else.

The third Man is capable of identifying wax but not anything else.

The fourth Man is capable of identifying grease lubricant but not anything else.

By nature, these capabilities are present in each of these four men.

Now, there is a fifth Man who enters the scene.

He is capable of identifying petrol, oil, wax, grease and many more chemicals. This capability is present in him by nature.

This fifth man is the Rishi ( Great Sage ). The other four are ordinary men with limited capabilities.

Now VISUALIZE within your mind, the small cloth pad made of thread of four different colours, intertwined with each other.

      NOW OPEN YOUR EYES.

If I tell you to pull out the white thread alone, you can easily do it.

If I tell you to pull out the red thread alone, you can easily do it.

If I tell you to pull out the yellow thread alone, you can easily do it.

If I tell you to pull out the brown thread alone, you can easily do it.

But if I tell a six month old child to do this, it cannot do it, since it neither understands colours nor thread nor separation nor the logic.

Similarly, the rishi ( Great Sage ) ( Vyasar, …etc ) are capable of separating the Brahmin gene, the kshatriya gene, the vaishya gene and the shudra gene and activating that by giving life to that one part alone or in different permitted combinations as per that vedic chart that I provided earlier.

The common man is like that six month old child and he does not have that capability to perform gene-structure-variation-isolation-activation.

      _____________

Why is your name not mentioned in the national registry of the citizens of America ?

The answer to this question is “ Not compulsory. It is mentioned in a similar registry in India “

So, similarly, this scientific fact is not explicitly stated in the Panchama Veda – The Mahaabhaaratha.

But it is mentioned in one of the other four Vedas. In fact, it is mentioned even in the Mahabharata ( The Mahabharata and Ramayana are filled with all secrets of nature but those methods of reading the secretive portion cannot be and should not be discussed here or anywhere else since there are rules governing those and we cannot violate those rules ).

As a hint, I can tell you this in telugu ‘ spashttangaa cheppa laedhu. ounu. But, cheppakunaa chaesaaru vyaasa maharshi. mounamlo saadhinchaaru. aa mounaanikee explanation, result lo vundhee ( result is the children of that caste ).

Meaning ” In detail the procedure might not be theoretically explained, but in silence, practically, the demonstration has been done by the Great Sage Vyaasa Maharshi. The explanation to his act in silence, comes out by way of the result ( result is the children of that caste ) ( He pulled out that exclusive kshatriya gene from each of those three women and gave them life ) ( Vyasa’s Father did the same vedic exercise and the Brahmin Gene activated and even among the Brahmin Gene, the HIGHEST QUALITY gene was activated and the Great Sage Vyasa was born ). ( Similar to that thread example that I provided above. Pulling out the differently coloured threads, one by one, as per requirement ).
      _____________

Is caste by birth or by disposition ?

The answer to this question is in the form of another question.

Is a lion, a lion by birth or by it’s roar ? If it stops roaring and starts trumpeting, will it become an elephant ? NO.

Suppose the lion has a temporary health set-back and it starts trumpeting like the elephant, will the lion become the elephant ?
No, the lion remains a lion, irrespective of it’s condition in life. This is because it has been created as a lion by the creator God.

The ordinary Men and Women cannot understand the High Truth. So, they are advised to respect the Greats and continue with their duty. As they do so, one day their mind will develop that high level maturity and they can understand God’s Law of Nature.

When a person starts tracing the root of a river, at one point, it will lead him to a BLANK.
A plainly INVISIBLE range. A plainly empty space.

There his mind will be unable to comprehend HOW ?

HOW CAN A RIVER COME FROM SPACE ?

Now again this is a HIGH TRUTH and instead of damaging his mind with low maturity levels, his mind is trained with such caution ( that proverb ) and as he continues with life, performing his duties, one day, he develops that maturity and understands God’s Law of Nature and the birth of the river ( it’s root ) from space and beyond space.

Then was the Great Vyasa the ancestor of Pandu and dhritirashtra of the mahabharatha ?

      NO

Just as the cook comes to your home, uses the fire from your fuel supply, uses the utensils and food ingredients belonging to you and cooks food, so too, similarly, the great sages such as Vyasa Maharshi had the capability to
bring to active existence, the subtle imprint of the genetic structure of the husband present within the wife ( widow post husband’s death ).

Till the completion of the dwaapara yuga ( Of Lord Krishna ), this practise was adopted by the common man too when the brother dies and to continue the race, his brother would marry the widow.

This was called NIYOGA and is PROHIBITED in kali yuga.

Just as the ashwamedha yagna is said to be prohibited in kali yuga and should not be performed, so too Niyoga is prohibited in kaliyuga and should not be practised.

This is because some natural effects remain inactive in kaliyuga and as per the law of nature they are not supposed to be operated. This is similar to a secret chambers locked and entry barred.
Similarly in kaliyuga, Niyoga is prohibited.

So the great sage Veda Vyasa Maharshi only aided the re-activation of the subtle imprint of the genetic structure of the fathers of Pandu, Dhritirashtra and Vidura. He is not their ancestor.

ASURI is the title to every person who belong to HARITHA GOTRA. The word Asuri is being used by one and all since the VEDIC PERIOD

Asuri was a great personality and scholar par excellence, who was among the top ten scholars of that time and he lived around the same time as the great Yajnavalkya ( The founder of Shukla Yajur Veda ) and they were known to each other.

Āsuri Gotra has four śāsanas ( practices/ doctrines ) : abhicāriā, bhalārhiā, malaiyā and pāñcāliā. It suggests that this Āsuri (literally, demonic) gotra was related to rituals like abhicāra ( Abhichara is mentioned in the Atharva Veda, i.e. one of the four Vedas where it is mentioned in the hymns. However, the practice of Abhicharas was meant to be directed at Asuras, evil spirits, demons, powerful enemies and even sorcerers ) associated with Tantra (perhaps Vāmamārgi path of the tantra ) ( The science of tantra has two main branches, which are known as vama marga and dakshina marga. Vama marga is the left path which combines sexual life with yoga practices in order to explode the dormant energy centres. Dakshina marga is the right path of yoga practices without sexual enactment. ) Now, this might have prevailed in parts of Pañcāla ( Panchala was the name of an ancient kingdom of northern India, located in the Ganges-Yamuna Doab of the upper Gangetic plain, encompassing the modern-day states of Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh in those ancient times )

( The Panchalas occupied the country to the east of the Kurus, between the upper Himalayas and the river Ganges. It roughly corresponded to modern Budaun, Farrukhabad and the adjoining districts of Uttar Pradesh. The country was divided into Uttara-Panchala and Dakshina-Panchala. The northern Panchala had its capital at Ahichatra, (also known as Adhichhatra and Chhatravati, near present-day Ramnagar village in Aonla tehsil of Bareilly district, while southern Panchala had it capital at Kampilya or Kampil in Farrukhabad district. The famous city of Kanyakubja or Kannauj was situated in the kingdom of Panchala. )

So, asuri, the sage who lived around the same time as the great sage yajnavalkya, may be said to belong to the Haritha Gothra for which the Pravaram is Aangirasa, Ambarisha, Yauvanaachva -Thrayarsheya, pravaranvitha

Yes Asuri Gotra people are Goud / Gaur Brahmins.

Gaur Brahims are the Brahmins originated from a small village of west Bengal and Bengal desh border the name of that village is GAUR or GOUR located near the Indo-Bangladesh international border. It was founded by Lakshmana and was given name as Lakshmanavati and later it was known as Gouda and then Gour after the Muslims invaded Bengal in 11th century when the brahmins moved to northern INDIA.

King Parikshit (son of Abhimanu and Uttara) and Grandson of Arjuna was the last King of Dwapar Yuga. Rather it is said that Kaliyug started within the time of King Parikshit. Parikshit did a Maha Yajna for which he was advised by rishis that to perform that yajna GAUR Brahmans are needed. Thus Parikshit invited Gaur Brahmans from west bengal. After the Yajna was over the Brahmins asked to return to their native place. But were requested to stay there by King Parikshit. The Brahmins then questioned Parikshit that there are not suitable brahmin girls available in his kingdom and hence how will they continue there clan/Vansh. On this Parikshit offered them to marry the royal girls( daughters, sisters of royals). This is why it is said that on a comparative basis, Gaur Brahmins are a bit more arrogant then rest.

Vadhula Gotra is also known with different variations as Vardhula, Vadoola, Vathoola etc. In this Gotra many of them belong to South Indian brahmins mostly in Andhra, Tamilnadu and Karnataka. My original surname Kasturi which later changed to Ayilavarapu about 4 generations back. These two surnames are one and same and belong to same Gotra. Pravaras are Bhargava, Veetahavya and Savedasa. Bhargava is only a representation of descendants of Bhrigu Maharshi. You may not find Bhargava as Rishi seperately. Veetahavya (Veeta Habya or Veeta Gavya variatiions) in some texts say a King belonging to Janaka vamsa who became Sishya of Bhrigu and turned to Brahmin under Sishya Parampara. in some texts he has been shown as another sage. Sutra is Apasthamba, Sakha is Krishna Yajurweda. I would appreciate if any one can throw more light on sage Vadhoola and Gotra Pravaras.

I appreciate Mr. Natarajan Iyer’s comments about maintaining purity form of Kshatriya caste in Dhartarashtra and Pandu by Sage Vedavyasa through his ascetic powers. But there are several instances where intercaste progeny were there and their caste went by patriarchial (father’s caste) system of identifying caste even in Dwapara Yuga. In fact Santhanu (Kshatriya) married Satyavathi, who is born to King of Chedi and cursed Apsara. She can not be a pure Kshatriya if we take into Anuloma and Pratiloma system. She was also adopted daughter of fisherman and married to Kshatriya. However her sons Chitrangada and Vichitraveerya have been identified as Kshtriyas only and their caste was not through any Pratiloma system. Did Santhanu has the same capability as that of Sage Veda Vyasa to implant Kshtriya gene in them? Even Bhishma case was also not a pure form of Kshatriya if we go by the same system of Pratiloma. He was son of a Kshtriya and Devata Ganga. There are several instances where Kshtriayas married to Yadavas. Yadavas are never considered to be Kshatriyas. Arjuna married to Subhadra (Yadava) and whose progeny continued as Kshatriyas of Kuru Clan subsequnetly. (Abhimanyu-Parishit-Janamejaya etc.) Can we consider that prtiloma system was not in practice as in many instances father caste being adapted to the progeny, If we read Mahabharat, there are many instance of intercaste marriages and their progeny were identified with their father’s caste.

When the common man dies his brother will marry the widow to carry on the race – does this mean that they will live in relationship to continue the race or they will approach a Rishi to activate the Genetic Imprints? Also one more thought, is it not possible to continue the race if the Brother marries some other woman since both the dead brother and the living one has the same genetic structure? Will it continue only if the Brother of dead man marries the widow? Requesting you to through some lights on above lines. Thank you for sharing some of the Vedic knowledge which by itself is of highest values.

      1) Niyoga is PROHIBITED in Kali Yuga.

      2) Rishis are not activating agents. Unless it was divine ordinance they never intervened.

      3) Niyoga was NEVER a compulsion. It remained a CHOICE. That too, only if the race had no continuity at all.

      4) However over a period of time, the copy-cat human society which observed this rare method, coupled it with dirty lust and threw divine lust ( routine and regular husband-wife lust ) out of the window and made an unholy affair of a purely scientific procedure.

But strictly speaking, Niyoga is prohibited by vedic injunction, in kali yugam.

Yes, Race continuity can happen when the brother marries a different woman since it is the Man who generates, sustains and continues the race.

If you divide kaliyugam ( 4,32,000 years ) into 64 parts and further divide each of the 64 parts into four parts each, we are now in the last portion of the first part of the total 64 parts. It is in the last portion of the 64th part that the kalki avataaram will manifest. So, we are exactly diagonally on the same line and hence we are able to see evil spread across society in multiple methods and hence we are also among the lucky ones to have that intelligence to see and easily calculate how the spread of evil will occur and thereby take adequate precautionary measures to maintain purity and sanctity.

Dear Shri Natarajan Iyer, Namaskaram. Thank you for sharing the rare piece of Vedic knowledge. Understood the concept of Niyoga. I need your advice knowledge on the below lines.
        1. I have read that the white invaders have stolen all our original Vedic texts and its supporting. Do we still have the original script available? If yes, where can we get it to have the Vedic wisdom? Or if it has to come through a right Guru then do we have a profound Guru?
        2. This is relating to the Yuga cycle. In case of Maha Yugam the total period is 43,20,000 years divided in to 17,28,000/12,96,000/8,64,000/4,32,000. If we take earth’s precession in to account the average time taken for one yuga cycle is 24,000 years, 12,000 years descending and 12,000 years ascending. This 12,000 is split in to 4,800/3,600/2,400/1,200 and the same in ascending order summing up to 24,000 years. If we multiply 12,000 years by 360 (degrees) we get 43,20,000 years. As per this precession the Kali yugam got over by 2012 Dec and the next 30 years is by when Bhagawan Kalki will pitch in. Could you please highlight the linkage between the Maha yugam and the yugam cycle base the earth’s precession?

Thank you for sharing the Vedic knowledge.

Kaliyugam numbers can be found from the puraanaas.

        Please refer to the puraanas.

White invaders,..etc and slow hidden nakkal, nayandi etc are a risk in scientific discussions. I stay away from prolonged repetitive discussions.

Google cannot answer many queries. If we have to retort at times, that is because many people start a thread of huge queries and the knotty affair leaves us exhausted especially when there seems to be pun intended in the questions.

One has to do lot of research and soul-searching for answers since vedic texts are huge and voluminous and blogspots cannot provide all answers.

Anyway, answering Ram’s query, assuming that he is a genuine queriest, yes, GERMANS and CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES HAVE BEEN SUSPECTED AS THE ONES WHO HAVE TAKEN MANY OF OUR ANCIENT TEXTS.

Saraswathi Mahal Library at Tanjore, is a good source of our ancient scriptures.

But deep hidden mysteries of nature and the art of deciphering them is known only to a few and these cannot be stolen and these are initiated in three prime methods. Now beyond this I cannot get into details.

Repetitive japam of your kula deivam’s name for atleast 90 lakhs of times will open the gates of the worlds beyond what you see, touch, sense and hear.

saavarna, saavarni, saavarniya all appears derived from savarna named sage. if saavarniya is same as saavarni, the pravaras are Bhargava, Vaitahavya and Saavedasa. there are two more gotras with same pravaras Vadula and Yaska.

the names of pravaras mostly are not the exact name of sage. in sanskrit in order to mention descendants of rishi, there is slight variation of the original rishi name because of sanskrit grammar. If Brhigu is the original rishi, all his discendants are called Bhargava. Similarily if veethahavya is the name of original rishi all the descendants of veethahavya are mentioned as vaithahavya. If you go by the rish names in Vedas, they always carry in the end the name of another rishi as surname indicating whose porgeny they belong to. (except the original saptharishis and few other rishis like vamadeva etc.) In vedic period the rishis always used to go by a surname of their ancestor unlike the present surnames. On close scrutiny of Vedas and the sages who originated the various Riks, I found names of the rishis carrying their ancestor rishi name in the end. (This system not applicable to the original rishis) For example : a rishi name : Medhathithi kaanwah , Medathithi is the originator of the rik and his ancestoral rishi Kanwa. Likewise one of the pravaras in the above three Gotras, Vadula, Saavarni and Yaska, is Veethahavya. There is a rik in rigveda by his descendant rishi named : Aruno Vaithahavyah. The descendant may be under putra poutra parampara or sishya prashishya parampara. Can not be decided. In those vedic years there is no such classification based on caste. All those who obtained Brahma Vidya belong to same Sage descendant under whom they learnt it. The sages used to teach Brhma vidya both to their sons and sishyas alike. An interesting aspect I found in brahmin pravaras or gotras is that there is no distinction between North Indian or South Indian. It appears to me there was many migrations from north to south and vice versa. Here this Vadula, Yaska and Saavarni gotras are found both in south and north brahmin communities and also very widely. There is also a scope some rishis carrying same name (just like in present world) and also carrying a similar name akin to Devatas name (exactly simlar way what we carry some gods names now).

Brahma Vidya can never be taught.
It is experienced. Brahman is the Supreme Soul, the highest Truth.
        It can only be experienced.

Next, about Gothras, yes guru-sishya parampara might have existed as a gothra system but there were multiple reasons and methods adopted in that system. Similar to today’s cities and pin-code.

But the moment we say gotra, it is ANCESTRAL.

Pravaras refer to the great ones in that line. Similar to exotic fruits on a particular tree whose originating seed is that of another tree.

So it is that ancestral worship is followed by all in Hinduism.

From the ONE GOD, this entire creation branches out, in the same method, ONE GENERATION FROM THE PREVIOUS GENERATION.

However it is today a pathetic situation when society has degraded from worshipping parents to kicking them. But that is the fate of kali yugam where evil is born and evil is nurtured and the path is paved for evil souls to descend and exhaust their merit, their parents experiencing the result of their past evil karma and so on and so forth, the universe has a self-calculating mechanism of plus and minus.

But that law of nature is a huge topic altogether.

Gothram refers to ancestral line. We should just refer to this simple definition.

If we start tearing it into pieces in the name of analysis, finally the only thing that would remain is confusion.

The vedic rules permit that people who do not know their Gotram can be accomodated in the KASHYAPA gotram.

Sir, You mean to say that Kalingas were originally Brahmins later turned to be Kshatriyas or it is the other way around i.e. They were originally Kshatriyas later took up Brahmanism and substituted their Gothras? They have their Gothras since ancient times or it is implemented in the middle ?
Bacause there is absence of Brahminism in Orissa country in the ancient period. Brahmanism was introduced in Orissa only in early medieval history may be since 7th or 8th century AD. Prior to that there is Buddhism and Jainism prevalent there. Even Jagannath cult also derived from tribal cultures only.
Very tough question to ask :), Can you categorize them as native Dravidians or Early aryan immigrants because of their Gothras. But they dont look like aboriginals but there is some tribal cultures and customs prevalent.
Finally, Kalingas are Brahmins or Kshatriyas,…please clarify sir.

That question has been answered precisely. Though he was not a brahmin by birth, he became one by attaining the status of Brahmarishi…Understood! (:-)

My friend is a Tamil Mudhaliar – Pallavarayar Gotra
Is this Gotra further connected to a Vedic Saptha Rishi?
Secondly, they are not sure of their Kula Devate: Some say Vellore Murugan, some say Perumal
Some relatives think it is an Amman.
    Any suggestions?

All gotras trace back to Saptha Rishis.
Regarding the gotra you have mentioned,it might be traced to Vishnu Gotra as the surname Mudhaliyar indicates their profession in the past was Military.
As to Kula devata, can you forward the names of paternal ancestors for three generations,to help me find the Kula devata?

Gotra is based on lineage and also on profession. Classic example is that of the Viswa mitra. There are two Gotras of Viswa mitra. Kausika is is not a Brahmin Gotra because it is ascribed to the offsprings of Viswamitra and when he was a king, kashtriya before he became a Rajarishi and gave Gayatri Mantra. Then there is Viswamitra Gotra, which is a Brahmin Gotra. This is found among Aiyangars of Tamil Nadu. Those who know this do not arrange marriage between Kausika and Viswamitra Gotra. For more please read Why two Gotras for Viswamitra. Regards.

My husband is Sanadhya brahmin, gotra Bhardwaj, current residence UP, forefathers worked as Rajpurohit of Jadaun Rajput’s of Karauli, Rajasthan. We put surname Hardainiya, which I found out was actually one of the villages that was offered to Sanadhya Brahmin’s after the yagna was performed by Lord Shri Ram. Throughout my search I couldn’t exactly find the Kuldevi’s name, there was a lot of confusion. Someone said it’s Shrimata Tripur Sundari of Jabalpur, someone said it’s Kaila Devi of Karauli Rajasthan, someone said it’s Katyayani Devi out of Nau-Durga’s…I would love to know who she actually is and would like to pay a visit to her temple but my search goes on and on…till I found your blog. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angiras_(sage)

      2. Angiras (अंगिरस्, pronounced [əŋɡirəs]) is a Vedic rishi (sage) of Hinduism. He is described in the Rigveda as a teacher of divine knowledge, a mediator between men and gods, as well as stated in other hymns to be the first of Agni-devas (fire gods).[1][2] In some texts, he is considered to be one of the seven great sages or saptarishis, but in others he is mentioned but not counted in the list of seven great sages.[3] In some manuscripts of Atharvaveda, the text is attributed to “Atharvangirasah”, which is a compound of sage Atharvan and Angiras.[4][5] The student family of Angiras are called “Angirasa”,[1][6] and they are credited to be the authors of some hymns in the first, second, fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth book of the Rigveda.[7]
