First Swiss have banned the construction of minarets,then Belgium banned burka,now France follows Belgium, with other countries to follow.
While it is not correct to ban a religious symbol( which is debatable), Muslims have brought this about,thus giving more ammunition to Fundamentalists to escalate terrorism with the cry of ‘Islam in Danger’-establishment shall come down even more heavily on terrorists in particular and Muslims in general…this cycle shall go on unless moderate voices in Islam,if any, speak out .
The French parliament has approved a law which bans the burka from all public places, buildings, and in the street. Almost all the political parties voted for the new measure, with the main opposition Socialists abstaining.
After several years of often acrimonious and divisive debate, France has banned the burka, following in the footsteps of Belgium, which did the same a couple of months ago, according to Associated Press.
The Socialists and Greens abstained as they had announced, drawing criticism from the ruling UMP party that they were using frontal opposition at all cost tactics against the government.
The UMP and Nouveau Centre parties voted for the ban as did the Leftist Radicals. The Communists, apart from André Gerin, didn’t vote either, qualifying the law as a “political operation.”
The law was presented to parliament by Justice Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie and it proposes a €150 fine in case of infraction with the possibility of a mandatory Citizenship training course in case of refusal to pay. The law will be examined by the Senate in September and is expected to be adopted.
