Vishnu, called as Mayon, was the chief Deity of the geographical Division,Mullai, Forest Lands,
Indra, for Marutham, Region surrounding arable fields,
Varuna, for Neydhal, Sea shore,
Kotravai(Durga), for Desert Lands and
Murugan(Subrahmanya) for Kurinji, Mountainous area.
Murugan was worshiped as Skanda in Vedas.
