This personal God differs from individuals to individuals, depending on their dispositions and their tendency towards a particular trait or emotion.

So you can worship God as Male, Female or an impersonal image, Linga.

It could be worshiped as one would a Child, Father, Mother,Friend, Love or even as a Foe!

Later came the Agamas, where collective worship was stressed(which is not in the Vedas).

The Agamas laid down Rules for Construction of Temples, sanctifying them with Mantras and the daily Rituals to be followed.

Some great Temples were built and they are in existence even today with Pooja being offered as laid sown by the Agamas.

The temple dedicated to Lord Siva-Ramanatha Swamy,meanig, Lord Of Sri Rama,an avatar of Vishnu,-is located in the Southern tip on peninsular India and is reputed to grant the boon of child for the childless.Those who visit Kasi-,Varanasi in UP North India, must complete their pilgrimage by concluding it in Rameswaram.The place is is one Lord Rama worshiped Lord Siva for the sin committed by him killing Ravana , a Gnani, though he he committed the cardinal sin of yearning for other's(Rama's Wife,Sita).Rameswaram is believed to grant Moksha or Liberation by visiting this place and taking bath in the theerthas or wells,numbering 108(currently 22) ,all saline in Nature and concluding the bath in pure potable water gushing on the shores of the ocean.
