  • Dashavatara Anamoly Points Pre Sanatana Dharma in South

I received the following comment on Lord Vishnu’s Dasavathars.

‘Sir lord Vishnu first avataram is matsya. He took this avataram at the end of satya yugam

    Second avataram is kurma
    This is during satya yugam

My doubt is the avatar which he took first during the yuga should be the first avatar right?
Why matsya considered as first avataram?

    Second doubt
Why Hayagriva or horse considered as knowledge or wisdom? Is horse is genius
That is why he took horse face’

    Interesting observation.

On checking up facts I have stumbled on some interesting information and I am sharing it with my interpretation.

On Hayagriva ,though I had written an article, I did not touch upon the referred issue in detail.

I shall do it in a couple of days.

    Ten avatars of Vishnu image
    Dasavathar of Vishnu

‘The list of Dashavatara varies across sects and regions. The standard list is as follows: Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, and Kalki. Sometimes, Krishna replaces Vishnu as the source of all avatars and Balarama takes Krishna’s place in the list. In other versions, Krishna may be dropped from the list and substituted by regional deities like Vithoba, Jagannath or Balarama.’

The Four Yugas, The Hindu Time cycle are,

    Satya (Krutha) Yuiga,

    Treta Yuga,

    Dwapara Yuga and

    Kali Yuga.

    The Avatars under each Yuga.

    Satya Yuga.

    Matsya,

    Koorma,

    Varaha,

    Narasimha.

    Treta Yuga.

    Vamana.

    Rama,

    Parashurama,

    Dwapara Yuga.

    Krishna ,

    Balarama .

    Kali Yuga.

    Kalki, Yet to manifest.

It may be noted that Matsya tops the list, followed by Koorma and then Varaha.

Matsya Avatar relates to the Great Flood spoken of by all world legends and religions.

Matsya avatar indicates the flood .

Puranas state that the Matsya saved Mankind, instructed Manu, the first Man to meditate.

    He meditated Madagascar.

Please read my article on this.

Ikshvaku , the founder of Solar Dynasty, the ancestor of Rama lived in the south and he moved to Ayodhya to found the Ikshvaku Dynasty, to which Lord Rama belongs.

Please check my article on this.

It is curious to note that the Varaha avatar which deals with the recvovery of the Vedas from the earth does not immediately follow the Matsya Avatar.

If we take that that there was great flood , it should be followed by the recovery of Earth(Land) from the waters.

This recovery is indicated in the Varaha Avatar where it is said the Vedas were rolled in and hidden under the water; and Vishnu, as Varaha recovered it.

Yet this Avatar is not the immediate one after the Matsya Avatar.

But it the Koorma Avatar, when Vishnu took the form of a Tortoise to bear the weight of the Meru Mountain when the Devas and Asuras churned the Ocean.

I think this indictaes that the land mass was distributed among the Devas and Asuras, apart from getting some Divine Beings/Objects.

    It stands to reason because,

There seems to have been the worship of Shiva in the South even before Sanatana Dharam while the Vedas make a passing refrence to Him in Sri Rudram ,

Ikshvaku Dynasty foulrished in the north,

Then the Avatars of Parashurama , Vamana and Narasimha are from the south.

Though Narasimha is reported in the north and there is a temple , the details are much more evident in the south indicatinn Narasimha Avatar was from the South, Ahobila,

Note that Narasimha avatar is listed in the Satya Yuga, while the Vamana Avatar is listed in Treta Yuga!

It is a fact that the Vamana Avatar took plave during the period of Mahabali , the grand son of Prahlada.

My guess is that the Narasimha and Varaha avatars should have taken place during the Yuga Sandhi, time when One Yuga changes into another.

Please read my article on Yuga Sandhi.

And Vamana and Mahabali legend is more prominent in the south.

This is repeatedly referred in Puranas and the Tamil Classics.

When studeid together these facts and the fact that Manu was from the south and except Rama and Balarama,Krishna Avatars , all the Avatars of Vishnu seem to have been in the south of Vindhyas,it is possible that the Sanatana Dharma was in place in the south before the Vedic period in the north.

This is reinforced by the finding of Tamil Brahmi Script and the mention of Dravidas in the Vedas, Puranas and Ithihasas,Ramayana and Mahabharata.

  • No Avatar of Vishnu Shiva In South Why

I am quite intrigued by the antiquity and the relation ship between two great languages , Tamil and Sanskrit.

It is not about simply which is rich or which is more ancient for each language has its own specialty.

    Avatars of Vishnu.Image.jpg.
    Avatars of Vishnu.

    Shiva Avatars.Image.jpg.
    Avatars of Shiiva.

So curious that I have been studying and looking for articles on this ,but the more I read I get more interested and more confused.

I have posted four to five articles on allied subjects, touching on this.

    The point is this.

1.There is no direct reference to Tamils in the Vedas.

Bur reference is made of Pearls from Tamils.

Other than this, I am unable to find anything more.

2.However one can find numerous references to Tamils, Tamil  Kingdoms, wealth of Tamils int the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

I have posts on this issue.

I provide one quote from Valmiki Ramayana.

Kavatapuram was the second capital of early Pandyas whose first capital South Madurai was devoured by sea. ‘Kavatapuram’ means the doorway (of South India). Valmiki Ramayana has a few references to South India. One of them goes like this:–

    ‘’tato hemamayam divyam muktamani vibhushitam
Yuktam Kavatanam Pandyanam gata drakshyata vanarah

“Behold on the shore of the ocean the Pandya’s golden gates decked with gold and pearl”.

    3.Tamil quotes Vedas, Rama, Krishna(Mayon),Varuna, Durga,(Korkai0 Skanda( Murugan, Cheyon),Indra.

The Tolkappiyam also formulates the captivating division of the Tamil land into five regions (tinai), each associated with one particular aspect of love, one poetical expression, and also one deity: thus the hills (kuriji) with union and with Cheyon (Murugan); the desert (palai) with separation and Korravai (Durga); the forests (mullai) with awaiting and Mayon (Vishnu-Krishna); the seashore (neytal) with wailing and Varuna; and the cultivated lands (marutam) with quarrel and Ventan (Indra). Thus from the beginning we have a fusion of non-Vedic deities (Murugan or Korravai), Vedic gods (Indra, Varuna) and later Puranic deities such as Vishnu (Mal or Tirumal). Such a synthesis is quite typical of the Hindu temperament and cannot be the result of an overnight or superficial influence; it is also as remote as possible from the separateness we are told is at the root of so-called Dravidian culture.

Expectedly, this fusion grows by leaps and bounds in classical Sangam poetry whose composers were Brahmins, princes, merchants, farmers, including a number of women. The Eight Anthologies of poetry (orettuttokai) abound in references to many gods: Shiva, Uma, Murugan, Vishnu, Lakshmi (named Tiru, which corresponds to Sri) and several other Saktis.[37] The Paripadal, one of those anthologies, consists almost entirely of devotional poetry to Vishnu. One poem[38] begins with a homage to him and Lakshmi, and goes on to praise Garuda, Shiva on his majestic bull, the four-faced Brahma, the twelve Adityas, the Ashwins, the Rudras, the Saptarishis, Indra with his dreaded thunderbolt, the devas and asuras, etc., and makes glowing references to the Vedas and Vedic scholars.[39] So does the Purananuru,[40] another of the eight anthologies, which in addition sees Lord Shiva as the source of the four Vedas (166) and describes Lord Vishnu as blue-hued (174) and Garuda-bannered (56).[41] Similarly, a poem (360) of a third anthology, the Akananuru, declares that Shiva and Vishnu are the greatest of gods[42]

Not only deities or scriptures, landmarks sacred in the North, such as the Himalayas or Ganga, also become objects of great veneration in Tamil poetry. North Indian cities are referred to, such as Ujjain, or Mathura after which Madurai was named. Court poets proudly claim that the Chera kings conquered North Indian kingdoms and carved their emblem onto the Himalayas. They clearly saw the subcontinent as one entity; thus the Purananuru says they ruled over the whole land / With regions of hills, mountains, / Forests and inhabited lands / Having the Southern Kumari / And the great Northern Mount / And the Eastern and Western seas / As their borders….[43]”

    All this from Sangam Literature.

Later works , including Thirukkural has references to Vedas in abundance.

3.The Gods mentioned in Tamil are in the Vedic Period.

My doubt is why is it that no Avatar of Vishnu, Shiva have not manifested in the South?

By South, I mean the landmass below the Vindhyas.

Another curious fact is that Shiva is called Ayonija, one who does not stay in the womb,

His 64 Avatars are recorded in Tamil Literature.

Shiva is reported to have founded the Tamil Language through Sage Agasthya.

And Shiva in His Avatar as Soma Sundarar married Meenakshi, Goddess Uma at Madurai.

Excepting this there seems to be no Avatar like ram, Krishna.

4.Similarly why there is no record of the 64 Avatars of Shiva in Sanskrit and in the areas above the Vindhyas.

My surmise is that there was no division as below and above Vindhyas and as such there was one Bharat Varsha.

All this confusion emanates from the now disproved Aryan Invasion Theory and systematic misinterpretation of Vedas and Tamil by vested interests.

    Comments with Data welcome.

This is a Post for academic interest, not one where demands  “reservation policy” of Avatars of God in specific areas.

For discussion I have taken into account only the Avatras mentioned in the Puranas.

So under this category, Thiruvilayadal Puranam of Shiva.s 64 Avatars are not covered.

  • Dasavatara Birth Places Of Avatars Questions

The Ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu are as follows.

    1. Matsya, Satya Yuga.
    2. Kurma, Satya Yuga,
    3. Varaha, Satya Yuga.
    4. Narasimha, Satya Yuga
    5. Vamana,Treta Yuga
    6. Parashurama, Treta Yuga.
    7. Rama, Treta Yuga
    8. Krishna,Dwapara Yuga
    9. Balarama, Dwapara Yuga.
    10. Kalki -Kali Yuga, yet to manifest.

Some take Buddha as an Avatar of Vishnu, omitting Balarama.

I am furnishing the Birth places of these Avatars from our Purans.

I have a Couple of doubts.

1.Excepting the Kalki Avatar, none of the Avatars are from Kali Yuga.

    Dashavatara.image,jpg
Temple door depicting the ten avatars, Sree Balaji Temple, Goa. (from leftmost upper corner, clock wise) Matsya, Narasimha, Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Kalki, Vamana, Vithoba, Varaha and Kurma. Image Credit.wiki.

If such is the case how is it we are able to find Ayodhya , Mathura as the places mentioned in the Puranas ,Ramayana and Mahabharata?

Pralaya , Dissolution takes place at the end of each Yuga.

After Sandhi, new Creation takes place.

Does this mean that the Geographical charterers  of a territory is repeated or remains in tact in every Yuga?

Then why is that we have not fixed the Birth place of the other Avatars?

Is it because the description of these Avatars are not as vivid as Of Ram and Krishna?

My opinion is that according to Hinduism Time is Cyclic and non-linear.

Therefore all the Purans and Ithihasas are happening at this  moment simultaneously at different planes of existence with different parameters of Time

very much different from our Time.-Please check my poss under’ Time.’

That we are allowed information what is determined for us to have, by revealing things selectively.

Erich Von Daniken in his Book Chariot of the Gods and other Books opines that the Devas and other Gods are Extra Terrestrials, the Puranic wars

involved them; that the Extra Terrestrials visited the earth, altered our Genetic Code ,determined the way we should evolve and they are monitoring

    us.

I base this view on these facts.

Advanced civilizations that existed had become extinct, I am referring to Minoan, Sumerian, Chinese, Atlantis,Lemuria,

Mayan,Polynesian,Egypt  for reasons not very clear even today.

New civilization have arisen and the growth of these are erratic.

Initial discoveries were made, here was lull and suddenly  there is a spurt of activity in all the fields.

    Then Knowledge becomes stagnant.

Look at the developments in Science and all other subjects.

All the discoveries on the theoretical  aspects were done in the late 18th , the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

Developments of Computer Internet and other Gadgets like Mobile Telephony etc are only the technological developments  and not theoretical

    science.

I have followed the general tradition of including Balarama and omitting Buddha

    1.Matsya- Ocean.

    2.Koorma-Heaven.

3.Varaha- Some place in the Universe as soon as it was formed.

    4.Ram-Ayodhya.

    5.Krishna- Mathura.

    6.Balarama-Gokula.

    7.Narasimha-Not clear.

    8.Vamana-Heaven.

9.Parasurama-Haihaya Kingdom.Maheshwar is a City in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh state, in central India. It is located 13 km east of National

Highway 3 (Agra-Mumbai highway) and 91 km from Indore, the commercial capital of the state.

    This is being contested.

10.Kalki-Shambala,Somewhere in the interior of Asia
