  • What Is Mantra, Definition Explanation

Salvation,Self Realization is made possible by disciplining the Mind.

Unlike western philosophy, Indian philosophy considers Mind as an organ like Eyes,Ears,Nose,Mouth and Body( Panchendriyas, the Five Organs).

The difference between Mind and other organs is that Mind is Subtler and more powerful than the other organs.

    It controls other organs.

To realize Self or Reality,Mind has to be stilled,by a process of regulation.

What we perceive initially, when we come into contact with objects, is a jumble of various inputs conveyed to us by various organs like Eyes,Ears…

This reaches the Mind as unconnected stimulii

At this level,Mind just collects information , without collating them, categorising them.

The next level of Mind,Buddhi collates the information, categorises them, tags them as correct or incorrect from a factual point of view and also passed value judgements like Good or Bad.

Why a particular event is designated as Good or Bad,or why amidst multitudes of stimulii being present around us and are being received by Mind as raw information, only a specific event or fact is taken cognisance of,forms a different and exhaustive study.

To put it simply,Buddhi selects event/s at any given point of time,as directed by Chitta, the higher plane, which exists,to understand the concept, one may say, than the Mind.

Consciousness ,one of the Attributes of the Soul is Realized by stilling the projections made by the Chitta when it comes into contact with objects of senses.

One of the methods to regulate the Mind is Mantra.

    • मननात्‌ त्रायते इति मंत्र: ।’ manan means bringing only one thought to one’s mind repeatedly and trayate means to protect. In other words mantra refers to that which when thought of repeatedly protects oneself and also that which protects one from the mind or that which helps to bring about the dissolution of the mind. At a further stage Mantrayoga also means that state in which contemplation (manan) stops during chanting, there is dissolution of the mind, cessation of the mantra, dissolution of the triad (triputi) that is, of the mantra, the one chanting the mantra and the act of chanting and the seeker attains the state of dissolution (layavastha).

    • B.Mantra refers to the collection of letters which assists in acquisition of the favourable and the vanquishing of obstacles. The word mantra is derived from mantri, a Sanskrut word which means secret speeches (guhyabhashane). It has various meanings like acquisition of secret objectives, acquisition of secret meanings, invoking a deity for a specific cause, etc. Philosophically it means that by contemplation (manan) of which, knowledge about the oneness of the entire world, that is the embodied soul (jiva), Brahman and the universe is bestowed upon oneself and that by which the embodied soul acquires Liberation (Mukti) from worldly bondages and <span class=”glossary” title=”Practicing Dharma i.e. Dharmacharan”>Righteousness (Dharma), wealth (artha) and desire (kama) are achieved in this world.

    • C. “मंत्रा: मननात्‌ ।” means a mantra is that on which one contemplates (manan) and from which one acquires the knowledge about sacrificial fires (yadnya), God and the soul (Nirukta 7.12).

    • D. मकारो मननं प्राह त्रकारस्त्राणमुच्‍यते ।
      मननत्राणसंयुक्‍तो मंत्र इत्‍यभिधीयते ।।

The meaning: In the word mantrama’ (म) refers to contemplation (manan) and ‘tra’ (त्र) to protection (tran). Thus that which consists of contemplation (manan) and protection is called a mantra.’ (1)

    • E. The word mantra is derived from ‘man’ (मन्‌) and ‘tra’ (त्र). ‘Man’ refers to the mind and ‘tra’ to vital energy (pran). That which is done with the fusion of the mind and vital energy is called a mantra.

    • F. According to the science of Tantra: ‘According to the sorcerers (tantriks) sound (nad or dhvani) being the fundamental frequency of creation appears foremost in the origin of the universe. Sound is a subtle part of the divine energy (chit shakti) of the embodied soul (jiva). Just as sound waves are produced in the atmosphere due to air currents, so also in the body of the embodied soul sound waves are generated due to flow of a type of vital energy (pranvayu). A word is generated from this sound. Later, a mantra originates from it. The energy contained in a mantra is beyond one’s imagination.'(Source. https://www.hindujagruti.org/hinduism/knowledge/article/what-is-a-bijamantra.html#1https://www.hindujagruti.org/hinduism/knowledge/article/what-is-a-bijamantra.html#1)

Reality is One,but it appears to be many.(Advaita)

    • The world of Name and Form has only relative existence.
    • Once Knowledge dawns, differentiation disappears.

When one perceives, three things are needed.

    The Perceiver,

The Perceived and the process of

    Perception.

By Mantra, one can discipline the Mind and the differentiation between the Three,The Perceiver,Perceived and the process of Perception is dissolved and one becomes a part of Reality.

As an empirical spinoff, one gets his wishes granted and obstacles removed.

Will write on the effects not Mantras, the process and composition.

Hinduism Chitta Confirmed By Quantum Can Move Distant Objects.

The Concept of Chitta is one of the basic Cocepts of Hinduism.

Chitta is called as one of the Primary Attributes of Brahman, The Reality without Names and Forms.

Sat,Being and Ananda,Bliss are the other two Attributes.

Though Brahman,Reality is Indescribable,Avaktavya, its attributes Sat Chit and Ananda are revealed as the basic Attributes of Brahman by the Rishis, the Realized Souls.

Chitta is a Higher plane than of Mind, Consciousness.

    Consciousness is what drives One.

The rising of Consciousness leads one to Self Realization,Consciousness being an essential commponent of Brahman,Reality.

One of the methods of raising Consciousness is to get rid of the Impurities that surround it  .

These impurities are the modifications of the Chitta.

The Modifications to Chitta,Consciousness arises because of the vibrations that accrue because of our Thought processes.

Once these modifications are removed the Brahman, in the Form of Consciousness shines forth.

This is Realization of the Self.

    And Consciousness is Universal.

    There is no individual Consciousness.

Each of us seem to have individual Consciousness because of the Two limitations of the Mind,Space and Time.

Once we transcend these two,we become part of the Universal Consciousness, when there is no difference between between your Consciousness and Mine.

    Everything becomes One, Universal Consciousness.

This is called as Elan Vital by Henri Bergson.

Being Universal Consciousness,Chitta can control all activities of not only an Individual but the whole Universe.

And Consciousness is aHigher principle than the presently known Laws of Physics.

It can contact things, objects which are miles away from us,even in the sky.

    It can alter the obejects.

It can change the thought processes of others.

It can present it self in many places and Time at the same time.

This quality of Consciousness is expressed in the Puranas .

Krishna being present at many locations at the same time.

People traveling to different Planes of Existence.

    People changing objects ,including Man.

    Stopping/moving huge immovable Objects.

    Traveling back in Time.

This has been validated by Quantum now.

An Atom can be present at more than one place at the same time.

An event on earth can move an object in the Sky(without any gadgets).

    Read on.

The classic example to illustrate how factors associated with consciousness are directly linked with the physical world comes from the “double slit experiment.” A paper published in the peer-reviewed journal Physics Essays by Dean Radin, PhD, explains how this experiment has been used multiple times to explore the role of consciousness in shaping the nature of physical reality.

The paper showed that meditators were able to collapse quantum systems at a distance through intention alone.

The meditators were the “observer” in this case.

In fact, as Radin points out in his lecture, a “5 sigma” result was able to give CERN the Nobel Prize in 2013 for finding the Higgs particle (which turned out not to be Higgs after all). In this study, they also received a 5 sigma result when testing meditators against non-meditators in collapsing the quantum wave function.

This means that mental activity, the human mind,  attention, and intention, which are a few labels under the umbrella of consciousness, compelled physical matter to act in a certain way

“Observations not only disturb what has to be measured, they produce it. . . . We compel [the electron] to assume a definite position. . . . We ourselves produce the results of the measurement.”

Radin’s work is a great place to start if you’re curious about this, and probably one of the most well-researched and knowledgable scientists in the field.

He’s published two groundbreaking books that deal with this phenomenon, something Einstein referred to as “spooky action at a distance.” Action at a distance is the idea that physical systems can be moved, changed, or influenced without being physically touched by anything else. It refers to the nonlocal interaction of objects that are separated in space. See his works:

The Conscious Universe: The Scientific Truth of Psychic Phenomena

Entangled Minds: Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality

In fact, quantum entanglement was just achieved in space, as illustrated by a fairly recent study published in the journal Science that showed how scientists were able to produce entangled photons on a satellite orbiting 300 miles above the planet. They beamed the particles into two different ground-based labs that were 750 miles apart, all without losing the particles’ strange linkage. You can read more about that here.

  • What is Yoga Kundalini Upanishad

All of us are aware of the Yoga system of Patanjali through his work Yoga Sutras ans he is regarded as the founder of the Yoga system of Indian

    Philosophy.

    7_Chakras.JPG
7 Chakras of Kundalini Yoga. From Wikimedia Commons, the free media repository

We also have Shiva sutras which deal pretty much on the same subject.

We have yet another treatise on Yoga in the form of a minor Upanishad, Yoga Kundlini Upanishad.

This Upanishad is from the Krishna Yajur Veda.

It has three distinct approaches o the Yoga.

    It deals with Chitta primarily.

Patanjali describes what Yoga is in his first sutra,

    ‘Yoga: Chitaa Vrutti Nirodha’

Cessation of the modification of Chitta is Yoga.

Elaborating on this sutra , the Yoga Kundalini Upanishad discusses the different methods, some are different from Patanjali’s.

It deals with an exposition of Hatha and Lambika Yogas.

It concludes with an account of the non-qualified Brahman, that is the Nirguna Brahman.

Patanjali found it necessary to have a Personal God, Ishwara for practicing Yoga.

The Non-dual Brahman is , in the opinion of Patanjali, is easier to realize through the Personal God,Ishwara.

Please read my posts on this.

Kundalini Yoga analyses  the nature of Chitta in deatil

It maintains that Samskaras and Vasana( remnants of actions performed ,( both now and in the past births)  and Prana, the Vital Breath constitute the

causes for the existence of Chitta.

If Vasanas are controlled, Prana is automatically controlled. If Prana is controlled, the Vasanas are automatically controlled.

The Yoga-Kundalini Upanishad presents methods for the control of Prana.

The Yoga does not deal directly with Vasanas.

It deals directly with the techniques of controlling the Prana.

The three methods given in the Yoga-Kundalini Upanishad for the control of Prana are:

    Mitahara, Asana and Shakti-Chalana.

  • Why We Can’t Stop Thinking?

Thinking is what makes us what we are.

Too much thinking brings in Misery and as a wag put it,’Life is a tragedy for those who think, but a Comedy to those who feel’.

Recent study reveals that thinking is what makes us survive and make us a complicated mechanism.

However stopping ‘thinking’ is possible, according to Indian Philosophy.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sastra is all about ‘cessation of the modification of Chitta(stilling the thought waves)’

This is described as ‘Moksha’, ‘Nirvana‘ when one realises He is One with the Reality.

‘Most likely you have not needed to worry whether the rustling in the underbrush is a rabbit or a leopard, or had to identify the best escape route on a walk by the lake, or to wonder whether the funny pattern in the grass is a snake or dead branch. Yet these were life-or-death decisions to our ancestors. Optimal moment-to-moment readiness requires a brain that is working constantly, an effort that takes a great deal of energy. (To put this in context, the modern human brain is only 2 percent of our body weight, but it uses 20 percent of our resting energy.) Such an energy-hungry brain, one that is constantly seeking clues, connections and mechanisms, is only possible with a mammalian metabolism tuned to a constant high rate.

Constant thinking is what propelled us from being a favorite food on the savanna—and a species that nearly went extinct—to becoming the most accomplished life-form on this planet. Even in the modern world, our mind always churns to find hazards and opportunities in the data we derive from our surroundings, somewhat like a search engine server. Our brain goes one step further, however, by also thinking proactively, a task that takes even more mental processing.

So even though most of us no longer worry about leopards in the grass, we do encounter new dangers and opportunities: employment, interest rates, “70 percent off” sales and swindlers offering $20 million for just a small investment on our part. Our primate heritage brought us another benefit: the ability to navigate a social system. As social animals, we must keep track of who’s on top and who’s not and who might help us and who might hurt us. To learn and understand this information, our mind is constantly calculating “what if?” scenarios. What do I have to do to advance in the workplace or social or financial hierarchy? What is the danger here? The opportunity?

For these reasons, we benefit from having a brain that works around the clock, even if it means dealing with intrusive thoughts from time to time.’

As we age and our memory starts to function less well, names are most likely among the first things to escape us. You can use tricks to help remember, such as rhyming the name with an object. What is easiest, however, is to keep in mind that everyone has difficulty with names, so you can be less embarrassed when one eludes you and less critical of others when yours escapes them.

  • Computer That Translates Thoughts into Words

An X Ray Scan of the Brain.

Scientists are reported to have developed a Computer that can read and translate these thoughts into words.

The Computer analyses the electron discharges in the Brain and converts them into words.

That thoughts are electrical activity has been accepted recently by Scientists.

In fact some form of Epileptic seizures, like Grand mal seizure, is due to high rate of electrical discharge in the Brain.

In fact Science will come to know that it is not electrical discharge that happens in the brain but Magnetic discharges.

This has been explained in Buddhist Treatises and in Vaiseshika System of Indian Philosophy,

The underlying concept in this experiment is that the thought process is Linear.

True, but the process of Intellect is Magnetic and Non Linear- Result of the Activity of the Brain is Thought;Activity of the Brain is Intellect at a higher plane is Intellect, which determines the Course of your thoughts.

Even this is another process  by Chitta.

When people ask you to meditate it is only the modification of the Chitta that is being addressed to

Neuroscientists at the University of California Berkeley put electrodes inside the skulls of brain surgery patients to monitor information from their temporal lobe, which is involved in the processing of speech and images.

As the patient listened to someone speaking, a computer program analysed how the brain processed and reproduced the words they had heard.

The scientists believe the technique could also be used to read and report what they were thinking of saying next.

In the journal PLoS Biology, they write that it takes attempts at mind reading to ‘a whole new level’.

A computer programme analysed the activity from the electrodes, and reproduced the word they had heard or something very similar to it at the first attempt.

    Brain Spectrogram
    Spectrogram of Brain Activity.

Co-author Brian Pasley said there is already mounting evidence that ‘perception and imagery may be pretty similar in the brain’.

Therefore with more work, brain recordings could allow scientists to ‘synthesise the actual sound a person is thinking, or just write out the words with a type of interface device.’

Their study also shows in sharp relief how the auditory system breaks down sound into its individual frequencies – a range of around 1 to 8,000 Hertz for human speech.

Pasley told ABC News: ‘This study mainly focused on lower-level acoustic characteristics of speech. But I think there’s a lot more happening in these brain areas than acoustic analysis’.

He added: ‘We sort of take it for granted, the ability to understand speech. But your brain is doing amazing computations to accomplish this feat.’
