Interviews by IT Companies.

I have few more experiences narrated to me.

There seems to be a pattern.

Someone calling himself/herself a Consultant calls up on Mobile the prospective candidate and informs him/her to be present at a certain location at a specified time for an interview. The ‘Consultant’s verification of the candidate’s proficiency is limited to asking the candidate on the phone whether they possess the requisite academic and professional experience. That’s all.

Of course they are kind enough to indicate the  Company’s name in some cases.

In others ,the information about the Company is also missing.

The same procedure is followed by email, excepting that the candidate has to call the ‘Consultant’.

The mail also asks you- ‘please circulate the email among your friends who may meet the requirements.’

On reaching the venue at the appointed hour ,normally nobody seems to be aware of the interview.

After about 1-2 hours the ‘Consultant ‘arrives and calls up the crowd(really) by name and sends them in,one by one.

Someone who normally collects the applications, does the same now(he is called HR Executive-I was  Professor Emeritus for a couple of Universities  for Management Course-once I chanced upon a youngster whom I taught the year that passed by, was running here and there and seems to be organizing/interviewing professionals who seemed to be  very competent-I asked him later what he was doing, he said his job was to collect applications!.)

Many a time the company, people never turn up in time, some times for weeks.

In certain case they inform the candidate, there was a mis-communication(addition to Queen’s English) and they are sorry and that they have no vacancy.

After this there usually are rounds and rounds, that depends on the urgency of the Company.

Though present all the time ,the HR man will come into the picture for negotiating salary,if indications have not been given already to the candidate-nomally, these are not given.

If negotiations are not through ,the process of discussing with the people who have already interviewed(?) him and another round starts.

Some good candidates get fed up and they never attend interviews and remain where they are despite lower salaries

Direct Recruitment by The Company.

One Project Manger,Technical Manger,Group Lead, and an HR man flies out ,stays in a Five Star Hotel for a couple of Days to interview two candidates, finalize one ,who leaves the Company in three months.

If you ask IT guys  about his practice, it is bench-strength,table-weakness,Human Resourcing!

Funny, it may seem, the market Leaders lead the pack in this crazy dance, among them IBM,TCS.

In March I was contacted by Microsoft and was asked to attend a written test at janakpuri at Meritrak center. They called me for the position of Associate consultant entry level. Fortunately I cleared the test and got the call to come for an interview at ambassador hotel on Saturday.

I was happy, excited and confident that I will crack the MS interview. 20-25 people were already there waiting for the interview. I had to wait for 2 hours for my first round of interview.

In first round he asked some recursion, .NET and Mathematics questions (the questions were pretty simple and could be easily answered). I was satisfied with answers I gave and the interview also seem so. The duration of this round was around 1 hour.

HR told me that I have cleared first round and will again have to wait for next round.

Then after a wait of around 3 hours, my second round of interview began, In which they asked me some questions about team handling, production issues, and some Microsoft tools…

This round went for another 40-45 minutes and then HR told me that they got a very good feedback from interview panel and I have to come next day for director round. I was very happy and called everybody, to share my MS interview experience.

Next day I had to wait for 4 hours for my director round. In this round few general questions were asked and then they suggested that I should try for associate consultant lateral level and for that I have to come to Hyderabad for hands on, they specified that this round will also be an elimination round I happily and confidently agreed.

HR told me that they will send me the tickets in another 2-3 days and I will have to fly on Friday.

But that Friday never came….
