Big changes could be afoot in the way Americans pay for stuff. Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo are introducing a new service that will let customers easily transfer money from their checking account to someone else’s, the Wall Street Journal reports. The banks are hoping the service competes with eBay’s popular PayPal service, which now handles a lot of the transactions people used to use checks for. The payments could even be made on the go from a smart phone.
As I have been repeatedly saying, do not divulge personal/confidential information in social networking sited.
The information, apart from being misused by the site is also likely to be accessed by third parties.
” A major security flaw left the accounts of Facebook users exposed for years before it was fixed, security firm Symantec says. Around 100,000 Facebook applications accidentally shared users’ access tokens—described as a “spare key” to the account that allow the apps to do things like post info to a user’s wall—with advertisers and other third parties, the Wall Street Journal reports. Facebook says it took care of the problem after Symantec told the company about it last month.

Facebook’s complex ecosystem—with thousands of independent apps and complex data flows to and from apps—is a problem of its own creation.- Ben Edelman, an assistant professor
at Harvard Business School”
Symantec today warned that advertisers, analytic platforms, and other third parties may be able to access Facebook users’ personal information using inadvertently leaked application tokens. The security company advised Facebook users to change their passwords on the social networking site in order protect their accounts from being mined..
SafeHouse is supposed to be a place where people can anonymously expose corporate “fraud, abuse and other wrongdoing.” However, after launching SafeHouse this week, the Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper received a barrage of criticism for putting together a technically-weak website that can expose the identity of individuals submitting sensitive information.
One encryption analyst described SafeHouse as a “total anonymity failure,” while other experts said the website needed “basic improvements” that should have been addressed before launching.

Documents and databases: They’re key to modern journalism. But they’re almost always hidden behind locked doors, especially when they detail wrongdoing such as fraud, abuse, pollution, insider trading, and other harms. That’s why we need your help.
If you have newsworthy contracts, correspondence, emails, financial records or databases from companies, government agencies or non-profits, you can send them to us using the SafeHouse service.
Whatever one may say of Assaange none can question his passion.
He does not categorically deny that he has implied.
He is very careful in declaring that ‘he did not use the word Bisexual any where’.
That’s all.
There are ways of insinuating with out explicitly stating.
Best is to ignore the remarks.
Decency demands that the Author states categorically that he does not say or imply that Gandhi was homosexual.
Or he should provide Documentation /proof.

The author of a new book on the life of Mahatma Gandhi angrily dismissed claims that he alleged Gandhi left his wife for a gay lover or was a racist despite upholding the cause of the downtrodden all his life.
Jad Adams, who wrote a book last year that itself caused a storm for examining how Gandhi bathed with nubile young women and often shared a bed with one or more of his female followers, rejected any suggestion that Gandhi was gay.
“If Gandhi committed acts of homosexuality, there would be ample evidence, either justifying them or expressing shame,” he said, adding Gandhi used the word “love” often in letters and speech.
Adams said that he believed Kallenbach was homosexual and strongly attracted to Gandhi, but that the future independence leader, who had four children with his wife Kasturba, did not reciprocate.
‘Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India’ is written by a former New York Times executive editor Joseph Lelyveld, who makes shocking claims about Gandhi and his conflicting personal ideologies on racism, political faddism and sexual perversion.
The international daily ‘Wall Street Journal‘ on Monday published a review of the contentious book, quoting passages that pointed at the duality in Gandhi’s life in his profession of love for mankind as a concept while actually despising people as individuals
The author’s reaction followed outrage in Indian media and followers of the man whom many consider as the architect of a successful civil disobedience campaign against the British Raj.
Lelyveld said his book had been misinterpreted by the press.
He said the word “bisexual” appears nowhere in the book and the word “racist” is used once to describe comments by Gandhi during his stay in South Africa.”
The British Daily Mail reported “Gandhi ‘left his wife to live with a male lover’ new book claims”, while the Daily Telegraph said he had “held racist views against South African blacks.”
Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar Gandhi was quoted by the ‘Mail Today‘ daily as saying “these western writers have a morbid fascination for Gandhi’s sexuality. It only helps them sell their books. It is always open season with Gandhi.”

Several huge corporations own major networks and newspapers in the U.S. How much of the content do they control?
Everyone seems to know that the hand that feeds is the hand in charge.
“He who pays the piper gets to call the tune,” said Steve Rendall, a senior analyst at FAIR.
In the US, paying the piper and running the show are corporations. The tune they call, what Americans see, hear and read.
“It’s a money maker, it’s a cash cow. People don’t think that there is any money in the media. Aside from health care these days, the media is the industry of the 21st century,” said Georgetown University Professor Chris Chambers.
Half a century ago, fifty corporations ran the major networks and newspapers. Since then, a rapid concentration of media ownership has resulted in a near media monopoly spearheaded by a lucky few.
“The danger of this kind of media concentration is that it robs democracy of diversity, it robs viewers of being exposed to a wider range of views,” said media critic Danny Schechter.
Analysts say the U.S. is living in the golden age of media bias.
“It’s never been easier to find out exactly who is behind what, and where the conflict of interests are,” said media analyst TJ Walker.
General Electric, one of the largest military contractors in the US and Comcast, one of America’s largest cable providers are joined by the hip running NBC.
“The floor of the Hudson river is covered in carcinogenic PSBs – these toxigenic dangerous chemicals, that were put there by General Electric. General Electric owns NBC. NBC has not taken any trouble to report on this massive environmental story,” said Rendall.
With the innocent face of Mickey Mouse as their trademark, Disney is the proud owner of ABC.
“When ABC was bought by Disney and there were some ABC stories about improprieties at Disneyland and Disney World, and Disney killed those,” said Chambers.
CNN and Time magazine belong to Time Warner.
Joining the media giants is CBS Corporation towering over CBS News and Viacom – a global entertainment content company – running, among others, Comedy Central.
