it is normal and fashionable for self styled intellectuals and historians in India to paint a religious bigot and a killer as a patriot and worship him as a hero.Killer of Mandya Brahmins, who forcibly circumcised Hindus, made Brahmins eat Beef, killed over thirty thousand people in Malabar, now Kerala…Tipu Sultan. There is also a canard that he protected Hindu temples and donated a gem to Sringeri Mutt. Why he donated it is mentioned in my article.
Tipu Sultan destroyed a Temple in Talliparambha, Kerala and its remains can be seen even today.
The Rajarajeshwara temple is a Shiva temple located in Taliparamba in Kannurdistrict of Kerala, India. The temple is regarded as one of the existing 108 ancient Shiva Temples of ancient Kerala. It also has a prominent place amongst the numerous Shiva temples in South India.[2] It had the tallest shikhara amongst the temples of its time. The Rajarajeshwara temple has a top of about 90 tonnes. If any problem is encountered in the other temples of South India, devotees seek a solution in this temple through a prashnam, a traditional method of astrological decision making. Legendarily, it was supposedly renovated by Sage Parashurama, long before the Kali Yuga commenced. Several centuries ago, it was renovated by the Mushika (Kolathiri) dynasty kings. This temple was rebuilt into its present form in the early eleventh century. The quadrangular sanctum has a two-tiered pyramidal roof; in front of the sanctum is the namaskara mandapam, but the temple has no kodi maram (flagstaff), unlike others in Kerala. Only Hindus are permitted to enter.
Temple Destroyed by Tipu Sultan. Talliparambha,Kerala .Taliparambha Temple
The temple at Taliparamba is among the 108 ancient Kerala temples dedicated to Shiva. It is as famous as the Shiva temples in Vaikom, Ettumanur and Trichur.
Taliparamba is also regarded as one of the ancient Shakti Peethams. Legend has it that the head of Sati (Goddess/ wife of Shiva) fell here after Shiva’s tandavam following Sati’s self-immolation. Sati was the daughter of Daksh, a respected Hindu king who had a disregard for Shiva.
The Shiva Linga here is believed to be several thousands of years old. Legend has it that Shiva gave 13 sacred Shivalingas to Parvati/Sati to worship. One sage, Maandhata, propitiated Lord Shiva with intense prayers. Shiva was so pleased that he presented one of the Shiva Lingas to him with the injunction that it should be installed only at a place where there was no cremation ground. The sage, after searching all over, found Taliparamba the most sacred spot where he installed the Shiva Linga.
After his death the Linga disappeared into the earth. Then his son Muchukunda offered similar prayers to Shiva and got a second Shiva Linga, which too disappeared in course of time. Centuries passed. The third Shiva Linga was handed down to Satasoman, a king of Mushaka/Kolathiri/Chirakkal Royal Family, who then ruled the region. He was an ardent devotee of Shiva. On the advice of sage Agastya, he prayed to Lord Siva, who granted him the Shiva Linga. The king installed it in the present temple built by him. However, as per many legends associated with the Temple, Agastya Himself installed the Shiva Linga (which is believed as per those legends to be a ‘Jyothirlingam

The temple had a gigantic Gopuram or Watch tower in its Eastern side which was majestic in nature. Historians says, it was one of the biggest in Kerala.Kerala temples donot have huge Rajagopurams or Royal Gateways unlike our neighbouring Tamil Nadu. But few Royal temples indeed had and Rajarajeswara temple did have one such. Infact this temple’s Gopuram inspired Sakthan Thampuran Maharaja of Kochi to commission similar ones in Thrissur’s Vadakumnathan temple which has 4 such Gopurams (this temple had only 1 structure). But that was indeed very huge. However during Tipu’s invasion, this gopuram structure was destroyed partially. I used the term Partially, because only the upper levels of the structure got destroyed while the lower and its foundation stones remained intact. The upper levels were made of soft laterite, while lower levels with Granite and Laterite. Historians believe, it wasn’t razed down, rather it was mostly blown up with Artillery as the ground floor and basement levels remained intact while roofing collapsed. It remains like that for centuries and still remain so.

Tipu ordered his troops to round up all Mandyam Iyengars of Melkote, many of whom were relatives and friends of Tirumaliyengar, and he massacred them in cold blood.
The slaughter was on the day when the Mandyam Iyengars were getting ready to celebrate Naraka Chaturdashi. The celebrations turned into mourning.
The Sringeri Mutt possesses 47 letters addressed by Tipu Sultan to the then Shankaracharya Sri Sacchidananda Bharati III (1770 – 1814). Dr. A. K. Shastry has in his book ‘The records of the Sringeri Dharmasamsthana’, translated and commented upon these letters. Yet there is evidence that he destroyed 8000 temples.
In Karnataka, Tipu Sultan is held in veneration for his religious tolerance ,his donations to Hindu Temples and honorable treatment of Hindus.

I am called by the Left(?) Historians that I am a Right Historian!
I am neither.
I am, probably one who writes what is Right.
There is glorification of Tyrants like Aurangzeb and Tippu Sultan
Aurangzeb is portrayed as a Pious Man,
Of what use Piety is if you kill your brothers and torture your Father?
Tipu Sultan, Ruler of Mysore, India .18 Century AD.
Tipu Sultan is being projected ad the savior of Hindus , is being celebrated as the Tiger of Mysore and that he donated Shiva Linga to Sringeri Mutt and saved it from the British.
He defended his fiefdom, nothing more.
On his gifting Shiv Linga to Sringeri Mutt. Please refer my post on this.
He plundered Hindu temples and destroyed them.
I have provided a list of temples destroyed by him.
Not only this.
He forcibly circumcised Hindus and made Brahmins eat Beef!
‘In the aftermath of the 1780 Battle of Pollilur, 7,000 British soldiers were held imprisoned by Haidar Ali and Tipu Sultan in the fortress of Seringapatnam. Of these, more than 300 were forcibly circumcised. Cromwell Massey, who kept a secret diary during his captivity, wrote: “I lost with the foreskin of my yard all those benefits of a Christian and Englishman which were and ever shall be my greatest glory.” Adolescent captives were, in addition to being circumcised, made to wear female clothes. James Bristow, a teenage artilleryman, revenged himself by circumcising dogs, believing that this would harm the religious feelings of the Muslim warders. The prospect of punishment did not deter him, because “compelling us to undergo an abhorred operation [was] so base and barbarous an act of aggression, that it was impossible to reflect on it with temper.”James Scurry, also a prisoner of war, confirms in his book, The Captivity, Sufferings, and Escape of James Scurry (1824), that English soldiers, Mangalorean Catholics, and other prisoners were forcibly circumcised.[31] In 1784, when Tipu returned fromMangalore, he brought back tens of thousands of Mangalorean Catholics from Kanara and subjected them to forced circumcision. A Hindi idiom ‘Mar-mar ke Musalman bana’ (meaning ‘make Muslim by repeated beating’) can be traced to originate from forcible conversion of Hindus.”
According to the official report of Col. Fullarton of the British forces stationed in Mangalore, “(During the siege 1783) Tipu’s soldiers daily exposed the heads of many innocent Brahmins within sight from the fort for Zamorin and his Hindu followers to see. It is asserted that the Zamorin rather than witness such enormities and to avoid further killing of innocent Brahmins, chose to abandon the Palghat Fort” Further he states- “It was not only against the Brahmins who were thus put in a state of terror of forcible circumcision and conversion; but against all sections of Hindus. In August, 1788, a Raja of the Kshatriya family of Parappanad and also Trichera Thiruppad, a chieftain of Nilamboor, and many other Hindu nobles who had been carried away earlier to Coimbatore by Tipu Sultan, were forcibly circumcised and forced to eat beef.” an anti-Vedic practice as Hindus consider Cow as Holy Mother for her selfless contribution to the world and humans.
Genocide of Hindus by Brutal Tipu Sultan
The world-famous Protuguese traveller, Fr. Barthoelomeo, writes in his book Voyage to East Indies : “Tipu was riding on an elephant behind which another army of 30,000 soldiers followed. Most of the men and women were hanged in Calicut, first mothers were hanged with their children tied to necks of mothers. That barbarian Tipu Sultan tied the naked Christians and Hindus to the legs of elephants and made the elephants to move around till the bodies of the helpless victims were torn to pieces. Temples and churches were ordered to be burned down, desecrated and destroyed. Christian and Hindu women were forced to marry (mlecchas) mohammadans and similarly their men (after converting Hindu men into Islam) were forced to marry mohammadan women. Those Hindus, Christians who refused to be honoured with Islam, were ordered to be killed by hanging immediately.”
