  • Principles Of Parenting In The Vedas Hinduism

Hinduism takes parenting as it takes everything about Life or Death.

It does not accord  Parenting any special place or does it ignore it.

It treats as a routine affair of Life and treats is such.

Sikshavalli, Taittriya Upanishad Rules behaviour for Children
    Principles Of Life,Taittiriya Upanishad

Conceiving and giving Birth to a Child and bringing it up is taken so naturally as it treats the highest thoughts of Philosophy .

It considers all these as a Natural process and one need not be overly concerned about this  as such.

The Vedas offer basic Guide lines.

    1.Dharmachara, Righteous Conduct.

Behavior should be according to the Dharma, Moral Principle.

Parents are expected to behave he way they expect their children to behave towards them or others when they become adults.

Parents are prohibited from using vulgar language or the use of harsh words in front of their children.

    2.Dharma Svagriha.

    Worship at Home.

Parents should set an examples of following the Anushtaanas laid down for them in the Shastras.

They must perform Sandyavandan thrice a Day.

Perform other duties like Aupaasanam and other nithya karmas-read my posts on Rituals of Hindus, Samskaaras.

Give the pride of place for the family Deity.

Worship the Gods at fixed time daily at Home.

Vedas do not speak about. building a Temple, much less visiting Temples.

    3.Dharma Sambhashana.

Talking about Righteousness , Moral Books, Purans, Itihaas and of course the Vedas.

Parents are expected to read and teach children these sacred texts.

“Children should grow in the awareness of the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God. If no provision is made for this atmosphere and this teaching, we are denying them their due.”-Atharva Veda

The scripture also cautions parents that if children learn to worship money and material things, they will grow up admiring cruelty and deceit, rather than love and compassion.

    4.Dharma Svadhyaya, Self Study

    Self study is given priority.

Children are to be sent to Gurkula, Home of The Teaher, at the age of Five, after having performed Upanayana, for a minimum twelve years.

At the Gurukul, which would be their Home for the next twelve years, the children are taught, apart from the Vedas , the other Sciences like Maths,

    Physics,Biology, Warfare and the like.

After completing the Gurukul vasa the individual is  expected to engage himself in Self Study.

    This is not time bound.

One is expected to learn throughout his Life.

    5. Dharma Sangha. Follow a Preceptor.

One is expected to follow a Preceptor.

The Spiritual Guru is to be chosen carefully.

If one’s desire is strong enough, the Guru shall seek him.

The Taittriyopanishad  contains elaborate instructions to the Student.

  • Bhaskararaya Lalita Sahasranamam Details In English Hindi Telugu

Bhaskararaya Lalita Sahasranamam Details In English Hindi Telugu

The Lalita Sahasranaama is a powerful Mantra and form a part of The Tantra, Yantra Shastras of India.

    Lalita means’ one who plays”

This can be recited daily as a Paarayana and as a Puja.

Excepting Paarayana, the others have to be initiated by a Guru and performed.

The Lalita Sahasranama has the thousand names of the Devi Lalita.

Hinduism  describes the Reality as the One without Attributes, Nirguna,

It also provides for worshiping personal Gods,Iswara, Saguna Brahman.

Lalita Sahasranaama contains both Nirguna Upasana and Saguna.

Broadly the Stotra has Nirguna and Saguna Upasana.

It describes the Devi with Attributes in Saguna Saradhana Section, also details the Nirguna aspect.

In Saguna ,The Devi is worshiped as The Mother, as who else can take care of the Child but the Mother!

Nirguna follows the pattern of the Upanishads,’the neti Nyaya’ , that is not his, not this.

    Nirguna, Nirahankaara….the list goes on.

And as a mode of worship of Shiva and Shakti it has Eykyaanusanthaanam, where the union of the individual and Universal Soul and of Shiva and Shakti are explained.

Lalita Sahasranaama also deals with the description of the Devi, Her Evolution, though not really She Evolves for “She Always Is’ the details of Her Dwelling place, Sri Pura and Sri Chakra,

The Stotra is Yantra Shastra because it deals with the Sri Yantra,

It deals with Tantra Shastra, when it deals with all the Tantra.

    Akulaa Samayaanthastha Samayaachhara Thatpara’

It accommodates all the sects of Devi worship,Kulachaara,Samayaachaara,Vaamaachara, you name it , the Lalita Sahasranaama has it.

Lord Shiva divulged is and other stotras and it was later passed on to the others.

It is also on record  that Sri Lalita Devi had ordered Her Yoginins to compose this.

The Stotra also has Yoga embedded in it .

The Angannyaasa and Karanyaasa are of Yogic Discipline.

The various Chakras of the yoga are fixed in the Devi’ specifying the Chakra in its functional aspects.

The fundamental aspect of Human understanding, Thought and Words are embedded her.

    ‘SriMad vaakbha Koodaika swaroopa,

She rests as Savitri inin the tongue, remaining as Gayatri in the Consciousness Process and expresses herself as Sarasvati when words are formed.

She is the Swaroopa of Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and She transcends them  All.

The  letters and words are locked mystically.

This Stotra contains the Bheejaakshara of Bhuvaneswari,Kali, Lakshmi.

And it contains Laita Thripurasundaris Akshara as well.

The practice of Bala as a Deity is also found.

I can go on writing on these lines, which I shall do later.

The reason for this post is about the The Giant who had written Bhashya, Explanation oh Lalita Sahsranaama, Sri Bhaskararaya.

He was born in 1690 in Bhaga, Maharashtra, India, is Mother Konamba and father Gambiraraya, a Scholar.

    He was of Viswamitra Gotra,

Gambiraraya administered the Saraswati Mantram and had Bhaskararaya trained under Sri Narasimha Advari in Benares,Varanasi.

Bhaskararaya was highly respected by the learned and won accolades from Kings and Scholars.

He was married to Anandhi and Parvati.

He  settled in Benares and wrote over 40 books on Vedanta, Mimamsa,Vyakaran,Nyaya, Smriti,Mantra Shastra.

All the works are research papers!

He referers to more than 150 sources for his laita Sahasranaama Bhahsya.

He had a host of Disciplies and Umanandanathar wrote  a book on Parasuramakalpasutram and a Biography of Bhaskararaya in Bhaskara Vilaasam.

Then Bhaskararaya proceeded South, after staying for some time on the banks of the Krishna river and settled on the banks of  Kaveri.

A village was created for him as Bhaskararajapuram in Thanjavur district Tamil Nadu.

Later, reached Tiruvidaimaruthur, near Kumbakonam and lived there till 1785, till the age of  95.(1690-1785).

Among his many works the famous are.

  • Srardham FAQs

    Srardham.
    Srardham.

No.I am not talking about performing Srardha in Benares ,Gaya.

I am talking about performing Srardha in your Home or in a common place.

The best option is to perform Srardha at Home, it brings prosperity and Sreyas.

But now people do not prefer to conduct this at Home.

Sastras declare that all auspicious and inauspicious functions, anything is good or bad, marriage, death, Srardha are to be performed only at

    Home.

Once one decides to deviate from the Sastras , it is left to one’s inclination.

However, choice are available at various Mutts Gnana vapis.

On careful evaluation, I am posting some information on this.

Before that let me clear some FAQs on Srardham.

1.At what time should Sradham is to be performed.

    After 12.00 Noon

Madhyanhikam and Brahmayagna must be performed prior to Srardha, not before.

    2.what is the Diet?

Srardha should be performed on an empty stomach.

Food has to be taken only after the Sastris take food.

Wife of the Karta (one who performs the Srardham) must also follow the diet.

At night refreshment made of Rice’ like idly,Dosa,Adai,Aitsi Upma,Arisi Kozhukkattai are to be taken,

Nothing made of anything else must be  taken, like Chappati, Poori.

    Who should cook ?

Cooking must be done by the Karta’s wife; if wife is not alive,daughter-in-law must cook; else daughter if her father in law is not alive.

if these are not applicable, brother’s wife may perform.

If even this is not possible, then a cook may be engaged.

How many Brahmins are to be invited for food?

    Minimum 2 plus the Satrigal.

    What is the Menu?

By tradition, the menu is the same as the one prepared on the 10h day ceremony of the departed.

If details are not available, then read my post on Srardha Samayal( Srardha Menu).

What should one wear for the Srardha?

Pancha kachcha for men and Madisar for women(read my posts/video on this).

How much should I pay for Sastri and Brahmins?

    Depends on your city.

Who should take the Pitr Sesha(balance of Srardha food including the snacks)

Only those who are born to the departed, daughter in law,Grandsons( sons born of Sons), Brothers, brother’s wives, their male issues.

There is controversy regarding daughters ans son in-laws taking the Pitr Sesha.

On no account the Pitr Sesha is to be thrown away are given to others mentioned above, including throwing away and feeding the dogs.

Now there is the practice of maintaining a Dog at Home, parent might be possibly be in an old Age Home or in some fancy titled Home for the Destitute.

If out of necessity one can not perform the Srardha at Home, I recommend the Sringeri Shankara Mutt, where the rates are really reasonable and most importantly the Performance of the Srardha is detailed and they do not allow you flout rules  to suit your whims.

One point on Vishnu Ilai( Platter for Vishnu)

This is practiced by certain families by tradition.

if being practiced, go ahead, do not introduce a new custom as sentiments are involved.

I have leant now that for Vishnu Ilai, the Kula Deavatha is to be invited to partake the Food, the term Visnu Ilai is symbolic as Lord Vishnu is the Devata for Para Loka(after death).
