Naming a newly born child is given priority in Hinduism. It is one of the most important of the Basic 40 Duties-Samskaras.
Who and When?
All Varnas(loosely called as Caste now)-for explanation of this concept please read my blog ‘Caste’ ,filed under Hinduism.-20th Day from the date of Birth of The Child.
On the Archaeological front , evidence is mounting on the existence of Dwaraka (you may see Videos on this in my blogs, and also in You Tube).
Sites relating to Mahabharata have been unearthed.Suffice to say that there is enough scientific evidence to conclude that The Mahabharata is a fact and not fiction.
But to those who are skeptical, I would say read the message of The Gita. One need not bother about who wrote it.What is said is important.
Krishna.
Lord Krishna says to Arjuna, after delivering the discourse that he need to examine what has been explained to him and asks him to take his decision! (Chapter 18)
The other two are, The Vedas and The Brahma Sutras .Srimad Bhagavad Gita is the very essence of the Vedas.
It contains not only the vedic Thoughts but thoughts of other Systems of Indian Philosophy as well.
Evolution and Gunas Theory of The Sankhya,Atomic Theory of The Vaisesika ,Logical System of Nyaya, Yoga of Patanjali, Karma Theory of Mimamsa( with modifications) and of course The Advaita,Visitadvaita and Dwaita are all discussed in The Gita.
Srimad Bhagavad Gita is not a Religious Sermon.
It was born of practical necessity at the time of war, when Arjuna was confused as to the course of action he needs to take.
It is to fight to depression at the immediate level and to overcome some questions that shall arise at some point of time in one’s Life.
The quest for The Unknown and Contentment makes one happy.
Science and Religion belong to the category of trying to make Absolute statements, though those who propound these know these to be untrue, do not make one happy.
The inner yearning to feel one’s Self until that is realized, no one is happy.
Indian Philosophy, realizing this, does not propound Dogma.
It encourages self-analysis ans Skepticism until one is satisfied.
Therein lies the Greatness of Indian Philosophy.
The link between spirituality and happiness is pretty well-established for teens and adults. More spirituality brings more happiness. Now a study has reached into the younger set, finding the same link in “tweens” and in kids in middle childhood.
Specifically, the study shows that children who feel that their lives have meaning and value and who develop deep, quality relationships — both measures of spirituality, the researchers claim — are happier.
Personal aspects of spirituality (meaning and value in one’s own life) and communal aspects (quality and depth of inter-personal relationships) were both strong predictors of children’s happiness, said study leader Mark Holder from the University of British Columbia in Canada and his colleagues Ben Coleman and Judi Wallace.
People should not be misguided by these charlatans .
The best Homage to Christ is to follow His Teachings, ignoring others, The Church included.
A COUPLE who claim they are Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene have set up base in Queensland’s Bible Belt and are drawing in disciples from across the country.
The pair, real names Alan John Miller and Mary Suzanne Luck, operate from rural Wilkesdale, near Kingaroy, where they claim to have been joined by 30-40 followers.
“My name is Jesus and I’m serious,” Mr Miller says in a video recording from a workshop. Cult watchers and the Anglican and Catholic churches are concerned the pair, who ask followers to donate to sustain them, could draw in the vulnerable.
Cross as seen by Google earth,Divine Love of Jesus headquarters outside Kingaroy.
Early Mormon leaders Jedediah M. Grant and Orson Hyde stated it was part of their religious belief that Jesus Christ was polygamous, quoting an apocryphal passage attributed to the second-century Greek philosopher Celsus: “The grand reason why the gentiles and philosophers of his school persecuted Jesus Christ was because he had so many wives. There were Elizabeth and Mary and a host of others that followed him”.
The French 19th century socialist politician, Louis Martin, in his 1886 book Les Evangiles sans Dieu described the historical Jesus as a turned atheist, who had married Mary Magdalene, and that both had travelled to the South of France, where they had a son.
The Jesus bloodline hypothesis which held that the historical Jesus had married Mary Magdalene and fathered a child with her was brought to the attention of the general public again in the 20th century by Donovan Joyce in his 1973 book The Jesus Scroll. In his 1977 book Jesus died in Kashmir: Jesus, Moses and the ten lost tribes of Israel, Andreas Faber-Kaiser explored the legend that Jesus met, married and had several children with a Kashmiri woman. The author also interviewed the late Basharat Saleem who claimed to be a Kashmiri descendant of Jesus. Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln developed and popularized the hypothesis that a bloodline from Jesus and Mary Magdalene eventually became the Merovingiandynasty in their 1982 book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, in which they asserted:
The symbolic significance of Jesus is that he is God exposed to the spectrum of human experience – exposed to the first-hand knowledge of what being a man entails. But could God, incarnate as Jesus, truly claim to be a man, to encompass the spectrum of human experience, without coming to know two of the most basic, most elemental facets of the human condition? Could God claim to know the totality of human existence without confronting two such essential aspects of humanity as sexuality and paternity? We do not think so. In fact, we do not think the Incarnation truly symbolises what it is intended to symbolise unless Jesus were married and sired children. The Jesus of the Gospels, and of established Christianity, is ultimately incomplete – a God whose incarnation as man is only partial. The Jesus who emerged from our research enjoys, in our opinion, a much more valid claim to what Christianity would have him be.
Many commentators and scholars now think so, and some of sound reputation have thought so throughout the centuries since the life and death of Jesus.
The answer is, however, that we really do not know. Some evidence seems to point that way, and support for the theory is growing… but that is its present position… that it is just a theory.
However, since it is a theory supported – although not definitively – by at least one of the Nag Hammadi gospels and by the author of The Da Vinci Code and many other writers and scholars who have accumulated a persuasive body of material, readers – whether it concurs with their personal opinions or not – have to take account of it in order to enter the world of Dan Brown’s novel.
In Bloodline of the Holy Grail, Laurence Gardner writes that Jesus and Mary Magadalene had undergone their Second Marriage ceremony at the time of the anointing at Bethany and that Mary Magdalene was three months pregnant when Jesus was crucified. Apart from referring to what he regards as reliably informative Gospel sources, he points out that the pregnancy would have fallen within the period designated by the strict rules of their religious community for the procreation of offspring, as sexual relations were permitted only each December.
The period between New Moon and Full Moon in Simha Maasa (approximately in September)for 15 days is named as Mahalaya Paksha.
Lunar Calendar of Hindus divides a month with reference to the waxing and waning of the Moon, into two.(for details on Hindu/Indian Calculation of Time’ please read my Blog’TIME-Non-Linear Theory, filed in Astrophysics).
The waxing period is called Sukla Paksha(Sukla in Sanskrit means White, here indicates the waxing of the Moon),ending in Full Moon, Pounima, also called Pournamasya.
The waning period is called Krishna Paksha( Krishna means Black),culminating in New Moon called Amavasya.
Each Paksha has 14 Days ,one Amavasya and one Pournima makes a Month.
One is expected to perform the duties due to the Departed daily, that is do Tharppana daily.
This applies all Castes, Brahmana,Kshatriya ,Vaisya and Sudra.
We have conveniently omitted to follow the Sastras, by saying that the Srardha and Tharppana are to be performed only by Brahmins .
We also have made it a habit of performing Tharppana only on Amavasya,Beginning of the New Month,Mahalaya ,Aadi ,Grahana( Eclipses) periods and Srardha Thithi.
This Behavior is not sanctioned by The Sastras.
Of all The Tharppanas ,Mahalaya Tharppana is very Special.
This period falls in The Dakshinayana-movement of the Sun to Southern Latitudes ,this is for six months.
This begins from Adi and extends up to Makara Sankaranthi ( January 14)
In the Dakshinayana, the Devas and Pitrus(ancestors) are said to be asleep and the wake up in Uttarayana (from January 14 for six months )
We are expected to perform Thrappana during the entire Paksha starting from Amavasya in Simha Masa till Pournima- for 14 days.
The habit of doing only on Maha Barani,Maha Navami etc are procedures we have invented ourselves because of our reluctance/laziness.
One has to perform Sandhya Vandana-Madhyanniham,follow it up with Brahma Yagnam, then do the Tharppana daily on all the fourteen days.
At the beginning, changing Upaveedham is recommended.
Tharppna/Srardha should be performed only after 12 Noon-after Madhyanniha.
It is highly recommended to feed the Hungry-not necessarily Brahmins.
Better locate some one who is hungry as you go out on the Day, take him / her to a hotel and feed them.
Avoid paying cash.
Ideal would be to feed the hungry at your Home. One might also gift people who are needy with new clothes,Foot wear, umbrella and winter clothes.
Feed the cows and Dogs.
Benefits of Tharppana/Srardha.
Sastras declare that there is no atonement for failing to perform the Tharppana and Srardha.
Of all the curses, Piru Saapa (curse), along with Sumangali Saapa (curse by women who expired when husbands are alive) are the Deadliest.
Those who perform these Karmas will be blessed with Children, Grand Children. Wealth;will be free of chronic diseases, irritating circumstances and inexplicable problems in the family.
If the ancestors Bless us( we are here because of them), God follows suit.
If parents curse us,(which a parent rarely does) , even God will let us down.
