Isa Upanishad Invocation ‘Om Purnamatha’

Isa Upanishad forms the first Chapter of Shukla Yajur Veda and tends to express the Non-dualistic view of the Universe.

This contains eighteen slokas,

The Upanishad starts with an Invocation to the Reality.

The sloka is very famous.

“Om Puurnnam-Adah Puurnnam-Idam Puurnnaat-Purnnam-Udacyate
Puurnnashya Puurnnam-Aadaaya Puurnnam-Eva-Avashissyate ||
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||”

Meaning.

: Om, That is Full, This also is Full, From Fullness comes that Fullness,
2: Taking Fullness from Fullness, Fullness Indeed Remains.
3: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.”

Sounds paradoxical, but it is not.

You have knowledge.

You teach some one.

The Knowledge you have is Full (relative to the student)

After teaching him , the extent of your Knowledge does not come down, it remains the same.

The Knowledge you transferred is also Full, for you have taught  completely what all you know.

So ‘having taken out Full’ also remains Full.
