We curse our misfortune and disappointments in Life, without realizing that they provide you an opportunity to realize your potential and your toughness of character.
Faced with a No Win situation the individual finds himself/herself , his / her true potential if only they allow themselves.
A girl faced with the prospect of her married life being doomed when the arranged a marriage is called off by her fiance finds herself,
In traditional Indian families calling of the marriage at the last moment would attract a stigma against the girl and it becomes difficult to get married.
An innocent girl, ditched at the last moment by her fiance after the marriage ceremony begins, goes abroad honeymoon’ only to find herself.
How she finds herself is the theme of the Film Queen.
A Director’s Film from the word Go, Queen makes an impact subtly.
Sometime back I came across a news item that, for the first time, a Kannada movie shot entirely by an amateur Videographer had gone viral in the Social Media and it has been made into a Film and it is running successfully.I decided to see the Film as it is reported to belong to thriller genre.
Fear of the unknown haunts us all.
The self-professed non believer professes to be so, shivering inside.
I belong to the majority of idiots who believe on things beyond us.
I have witnessed some of the paranormal phenomena and has posted some articles on them.
A horror or a thriller becomes effective when things are left to your imagination rather than trying to scare you with loud eerie Music and gory images.
Alfred Hitchcock has this magic of scaring you as in "Birds' or a blind Aubrey Hepburn make you scream when she leaps from near a refrigerator in a dark room with a Killer inside her house !
I can not resist seeing the film of this genre.
I saw the film with my friend and his wife.
It is reported to be original and real-time experience without any additions or deletions.
6-5=2
The Film is "6-5=2"
You are informed in the beginning of the Film that no editing was done to the Video recovered from a hilly terrain in Karnataka.
They also say that some editing was done only to enhance the quality of visual and Audio experience.
The story or Adventure starts with six youth,4 boys and two girls, go trekking in a dense forest .
One of them, as aspiring Movie cameraman, recorded every thing .
And this was the recovered Video which the film claims to have been released.
This Adventure was based on the news item in Kannada newspapers which claimed that of the six people who went trekking on 26.10.2010, three bodies were recovered, one is alive and two are untraceable.
On the third day of their trekking, some unusual things happen.
For no reason, their backpacks catch fire, their food destroyed, they hear voices, things get knocked down.
On Day four they are forced to pitch in a tent at a place, where they find a tree which had replicas of dead skulls instead of leaves.
They lose their way and after spending a whole night they return to the same spot they left.
(One of them has been left at the first camp)
The rest is interesting.
The film maker claims that the videos were by the dead man while the photographer of the fim says otherwise.
Read the news at the close of the post.
The film is so natural that one tends to believe it is real.
I still do not know whether it is a story taken slickly ,promoted through the Social Media.
There are no songs, fights, dance sequences, comedy track or even a back ground score .
It keeps you glued to your seat.
“A strange complaint has reached the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC)against the makers of the Kannada film 6-5=2. The horror film has caught the fancy of the audience, many of whom have believed the claims that the film is found footage from cameras of trekkers who died in 2010. The film also credits, ‘the late Ramesh’ one of the trekkers, as the cameraman of the film. Now, B K Magesh, a cinematographer from Chennai, has filed a complaint that he was the cinematographer of the film and not only have the film makers not given him his due credit, but also cheated him of his remuneration…
Speaking to BANGALORE MIRROR, Magesh, said, “I have been cheated by the filmmakers. They contacted me in December 2012 about the film. I shot the movie for 15 days in Madikeri in January this year. The idea for the film came from Hollywood ‘found footage’ films. It was a huge challenge and I proposed shooting only with natural light and using small artificial lights, which will not be evident. The director KS Ashok took advantage of me, learnt all the tricks and then dumped me. My remuneration was fixed at Rs 1.5 lakh. Payment of Rs 95,000 is still pending.” Magesh says that he will have to got to court if the issue is not solved by the film chamber. His complaint has arrived through the South Indian Cinematographers Association (SICA), Chennai.
In his complaint,Magesh says producer Krishna Chaitanya and director Ashok contacted him for the movie, and promised the remuneration. He was paid in small installments of Rs 5,000 and Rs10,000 during the shooting. After shooting was completed, his calls went unanswered. Magesh said, “A fictional dead man’s name was used for publicity.I donot mind if it benefits the film. But I am more concerned that they cheated me of my payment.”
6-5=2, a film inspired by the ‘found footage’ genre of Hollywood, does not reveal the actors and technicians of the film.
Another Rangarajan, also from Sri Rangam, is Sujatha the trend setter in modern Tamil Story writing was my friend..
Once when I was talking to Sujatha, I told him that though I like Vaali’s songs i Prefer Kannadasan for Kannadasan’s Tamil flowed naturally; in the case of Valli though they are excellent , to me, the word s seemed to be forced and researched, like Milton’s as compared to Shakespeare.
Sujatha seems to have told Vaali of this and Vaali had replied,
‘ I would like to meet him, many times I felt that way’
Such was his down to earth attitude and large hardheartedness that he was a man who recognized and nurtured young poets and lyricists.
In fact towards the closing years of his Life these young poets used to visit him regularly.
I have been meaning to write on valli for quite some time, as I have done for Kannadasan.
It seems that I tend to write Obituaries, much to my regret, thanks to my laziness.
Poet, Lyricist, Actor,.Litterateur , Theist, Atheist,Humane,Orthodox, Ultra modern , that is Vaali.
Even a die hard fan of Kannadasan would(Like me) would at times find it difficult to identify the songs, whether they are Kannadasa’s or vaali’s.
Example’madhavi Ponmayilaal Thohai Virithaal’
I have been under the impression that it was penned by Kannadasan.
I came to know much later it was by Vaali.
It seeems that Kannadasan was preoccupied and as the the song was urgently needed, it was decide to use Vaali.
It is a known fact that Sivaji Ganesan preferred Kannadasan for his films.
It seems, that after the recording was over the cassette was sent to Sivaji for his comments.
Sivaji Ganesan did not seem to have replied and returned the Cassette after listening to the producer.
Next day Sivaji Gansan rang up Kannadasan and told him to hear the song and informed him that he could not believe it was written by some body other than Kannadasan!
Kannadasan heard the song and congratulated Vaali.
Vaali had respect and admiration for Valali as it was Kannadasn’s song ‘Mayakkama, Kalakkama’ in Sumai thangi that made the dejected Valli who was returning to Srirangam after having failed to get a chance in films, return to Chennai and become a famous lyricist..
Vaali has remarked that Kannadasn had created a competitor for himself by his song.
Kannadasan replied that let Tamil win.
An orthodox Brahmin with normal vices, was close to Karunanidhi.
The famous TMS song, Karpanai Enraalum Karchilaui enraalum on Lord Muruga was written by Vaali.
For those who know and enjoy good Tamil, I am posting some of good songs, there are plenty of muck s well -Vaali has remarked that he is a Super Market, people can buy anything from him.
But not the way one hurts by ridiculing A Region or a Community, specifically Muslims.
I, as a Hindu, am hurt that it was Nathuram Godse, a Hindu, Killed Gandhiji.
I am ashamed and humiliated as a Hindu beyond words, when a few charlatans, criminals like Nithyananda, Premananda and many more Anandas and self styled Gurus sully my great Religion.
Similarly , imagining myself a Muslim, I was hurt when a Fanatic jihadi prevents his wife from being treated by a Doctor, or when he is in turmoil when he forbids son to learn English or becoming a Doctor.
Or when he shows his inner conflict between a committed path, which he feels is not correct but unable to shake off !
“I do this for Him! Why is h punishing me!
Any human being will be torn asunder by this crisis of identity when you know your Religion teaches Brotherhood and peace but by zealots has been turned into a fanatic Cult.
You can’t revolt,You can’t get out of it, such is your faith.
But, as a Human being you know you are wrong and are powerless to prevent it.
This is exactly what I felt as I watched the Film Viswaroopam.
The rigorous training, the discipline, sublime indifference to Human values- to what depths a zealot can a Great religion and in the process create a crisis of faith for Millions!
But insult to Islam or Muslims NO.
If at all, as usual Kamal Hasasn digs at Hindus(especially Brahmins), Hindu Culture may be found as when asked by the psychiatrist whether she will have illicit affair, the woamn replies,
“what,Me? illicit affair, Not now’
what about future”
You mean Sex, So what, it may not rain In US”
(an allusion to Tirukkural on Chastity(I f a Chaste woman, though not worshiping God ,worships her Husband,Heaven’s will open up and rain if she were to order so’
But enormous research has gone into details including Afghan scenes,Jihadis training, their methods of killing.
Acting wise there is no scope for an actor of Kamal’s caliber sans the scene where he essays the Natya Bhavas in a dance sequence.
Even here age tells.
Other characters are set properties.
Editing ,Photography, Stunt sequences are top class in that order.
The weakness is screen play and there seems to be no definite idea as what the film is about, Is it a Crime thriller or a tussle or crisis of faith or plain human story, there is a bit of all, but none too clear.
A Shankar would have made it an entertainer or a Manirathnam would have it a Human Drama with a patriotic touch.
The Film is as clear as Kamal Hassan’s Public speeches in Tamil!
If, as I was telling my son while driving down, after Kamal hangs up his boots, one were asked to list Kamal Hassan’s Films, this film not find a place in the list.
If you are a loyal Kamal fan, don’t expect Kamal Hassan in this film, see it any way for his industriousness and his supreme confidence in the medium and his Art.
Some of us have been told stories when we were kids, that babies were brought to their parents by storks with extra-strong beaks. But have you ever wondered where these babies come from? Watch the clip above to find out. Parents are going to have to tell a different story now, when it comes to the birds and the bees…or in this case, the clouds and the storks.
This short film comes with a moral lesson – don’t judge a book by its cover. Created by Fabrice O. Jubert, an animator who used to work at DreamWorks, French Roast is about a high-class businessman who forgot his wallet while having coffee at a fancy coffee shop. To buy him time in finding a solution without getting embarrassed, he keeps on ordering coffee. As the day (and the coffee) goes on, our protagonist meets some characters in the film who eventually help him out of his predicament. French Roast was also nominated for Best Animated Short Film in the 2009 Academy Awards.
How far would you go for love? Oktapodi is a French short film that shows us how two octopuses overcome a series of comical events to stay with each other, and get away from the clutches of the restaurant delivery guy. Take a look at how true love can overcome the odds – especially when you’re also in danger of ending up as someone’s dinner.
Oktapodi started out as a Graduate Student Project. It has won several awards and a nomination for Best Animated Short Film in the Academy Awards.
Many of us are probably familiar with this one. I myself have been seeing this animation a lot when I go to the TV section in the Department Store. Geri, our main character in the film plays chess against himself one autumn day at the park. So how do you actually win in a game of chess against yourself? Watch to find out.
This short film won Best Animated Short film at the 1997 Academy Awards. And oh, a little trivia here: Geri appears on Toy Story 2 as the guy who fixed up Woody.
I’m sure many people can relate to this short film – myself certainly included. Ever tried setting up your alarm at several times to make sure that you wake up on time? Our main character here takes it to different level as he sets up several alarm clocks instead. And not just in his bedroom, he’s got alarm clocks all over the house!
Created by Mesai, and independent animation team in Korea with director Moo-hyun Jang, watch the video to get an idea of how you look in the morning when you “fight” with your alarm clock. Well, it’s not really the waking up part that’s hard isn’t it? It’s getting up that we always struggle with.
