    Cinnamon and Honey

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call “crystallizing” .

When this happens I loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was.

Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey.

    Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:

It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases.. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a ‘Ram Ban’ (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases.

Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.

Today’s science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

    HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

    ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University , it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

    BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

    CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

    COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

    UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

    GAS:
According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

    IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

    INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

    INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ‘ Ingredient’ which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

    LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

    PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

    SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

    WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

    CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

    FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

    BAD BREATH:
People of South America, first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

    HEARING LOSS:
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing. remember when we were kids? We had toast with real butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!

  • A Headache That Didn’t Go Away

I have relative of mine, about 50, who had difficulty in vision. Ophthalmologist advised him to wear glasses.By chance he happened to see a GP who informed him his case was not one of vision ,but of eye balls about to pop out and he immediately rushed to Specialty hospital where he was diagnosed with a disorder that has resulted in his eyeballs being held only by 40%.He was immediately operated upon and he is recovering.
Moral-better seek second opinion .Sometimes, though cynical it may sound , it may again be not 100% correct.Sometimes there are as many opinions as there are doctors. What are we to do?

Valerie Novak fervently wished doctors would stop telling her the intense headache she’d endured for several weeks was a migraine. For one thing, neither the Georgetown University senior nor her close relatives had headaches, and migraines are frequently familial. None of the increasingly potent drugs doctors prescribed was doing much good. And the 22-year-old had lost 15 pounds in three weeks from bouts of severe vomiting.

“I was so frustrated and upset,” recalled Novak of her ordeal last summer, which involved consultations with half a dozen doctors, several trips to area emergency rooms and two hospitalizations. Novak, who had always been healthy, said she feared the unrelenting pain in her left temple and associated symptoms were something “I’d have to live with for the rest of my life.”

Her mother, Kathy Novak, a nurse practitioner in Bowie, was similarly skeptical of the diagnosis but grateful that doctors had ruled out more ominous possibilities, such as a brain tumor. When her middle daughter began complaining about double vision, Kathy took her to an ophthalmologist. His judgment led to an accurate diagnosis that had nothing to do with migraines but was instead a rare complication of a common item listed on Novak’s medical records. Left untreated, it might have killed her……………….

Back home with her parents, unable to go to class, Novak recalled that her “eyesight was getting wonky, with really, really weird double vision.” Alarmed, her mother made an appointment with an ophthalmologist, hoping he might have an explanation that didn’t involve migraines.

After dilating Novak’s eyes, the eye specialist immediately spotted something alarming: Her optic nerves were dangerously swollen. “This is not a migraine,” he told Novak. “You have increased intracranial pressure.”

The unrelenting headache as well as the numbness, tingling and vomiting were caused by a rise in pressure in the brain. The condition, which can result from a head injury or meningitis, is considered a medical emergency; increased pressure caused by a buildup of fluid can permanently damage the central nervous system by restricting blood flow to vessels that supply the brain. In Novak’s case, the double vision was caused by pressure on her cranial nerve.

The ophthalmologist’s first thought, given Novak’s age and history, was pseudotumor cerebri, a rare condition sometimes called a false brain tumor, that affects women between ages 20 and 45. Valerie’s illness had nearly all the hallmarks but lacked one critical variable: She was not overweight or obese, as are most of those with the condition.

The ophthalmologist immediately sent Novak to Greenbelt neurologist Roger Whicker. She immediately began taking a drug to reduce the pressure and underwent another MRI and other testing, which revealed the actual cause of the illness and changed the diagnosis to sagittal sinus thrombosis, or SST, caused by a blood clot in her brain.

  • FAQs about health care reform.

(CNN) — Senate Democrats claimed a major victory this weekend after voting to end debate on their version of the health care bill.
The Senate is on track to hold a final vote on Christmas eve, but there’s still a long way to go before a bill is on President Obama’s desk.
Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about what’s in the House and Senate health care bills and what’s next.
Where does the health care debate stand?
The House passed its version of health care reform last month. The Senate, which follows different procedures than the House, is slated to vote on its version of the health care bill before Christmas.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid needs a simple majority of 51 votes for final passage. Assuming the bill makes it through the Senate, a conference committee will then need to iron out the differences between the House and Senate versions and merge them into one bill.
Both chambers will then need to pass the revised bill before it is sent to the president’s desk.

Why does Obama want health care reform?
The president made health care reform his top domestic priority. He says overhauling the health care system is key to getting the economy back on track.
The president says he wants to reform health care in order to slow the growth of costs for families, businesses and the government. He also wants to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable health care, regardless of their income or medical history.
How to read a 2,000 page bill
    health bill ,

The House plan is projected to guarantee coverage for 96 percent of Americans at a cost of more than $1 trillion over the next 10 years, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
The Senate plan is projected to cover 94 percent of Americans with an $871 billion price over the next 10 years, according to the CBO.
How will this be paid for?
The House plan imposes a 5.4 percent income tax surcharge on individuals with annual incomes over $500,000, as well as families earning more than $1 million.
The Senate plan increases the Medicare payroll tax on individuals earning more than $200,000 and couples earning more than $250,000 from the current 1.45 percent to 2.35 percent.
The Senate bill also imposes a new tax on insurers that provide so-called “Cadillac” health plans valued at more than $8,500 for individuals and $23,000 for families. The 40 percent tax would be on the value of the plan. In addition, it imposes a 10 percent tax on indoor tanning salon treatments.
Both bills call for cutting hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare and Medicaid. Republicans say that those cuts will impair Medicare coverage, but Democrats say the savings will come from eliminating waste and fraud.
The House and Senate bills also call for fees on medical device manufacturers.
Do I have to buy health insurance?
The House and Senate bills both require individuals to buy health insurance. The House bill imposes a fine of up to 2.5 percent of a person’s income for noncompliance.
The Senate plan imposes a noncompliance fine that starts at $95 in 2010 and escalates to $750 in 2016. It also requires parents to provide health coverage for children up to age 18.
What if I can’t afford coverage?
The House and Senate plans both include a hardship exemption for poorer Americans.
Both bills subsidize insurance for a family of four making up to roughly $88,000 annually, or 400 percent of the federal poverty level.
With subsidies, premiums for a family of four at 133 percent of poverty ($29,326.50) would be a maximum of $440 under the House plan, while premiums for a family of four making the highest amount eligible would be a maximum of $10,584.
Under the Senate plan, with subsidies, premiums for a family of four at 133 percent of poverty would be a maximum of $821.14, while premiums for a family making the highest amount eligible would be a maximum of $8,643.60.
I own a business. Do I have to provide coverage for my employees?
The House plan requires companies with a payroll of more than $500,000 to provide insurance or pay a penalty of up to 8 percent of their payroll.
Under the Senate plan, starting in 2013, companies with more than 50 employees would be required to pay a fee per worker if its employees rely on government subsidies to purchase coverage.
    What if I have a pre-existing condition?
Both the House plan and the Senate bill would eventually limit total out-of-pocket expenses and prevent insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions.
Both plans also bar insurers from charging higher premiums based on a person’s gender or medical history. Insurers can only vary rates based on three things: age, geography and family make-up/size.
What is a health insurance exchange?
“Health insurance exchange” refers to the marketplace of the health insurance options. Obama has defined the exchange as a “one-stop shopping marketplace where you can compare the benefits, cost and track records of a variety of plans — including a public option to increase competition and keep insurance companies honest — and choose what’s best for your family.”
The House bill creates a national health insurance exchange designed to make it easier for small businesses, self-employed and the unemployed to pool resources and purchase less expensive coverage.
The Senate bill creates state health insurance exchanges in all 50 states.
What is a health care co-op?
Nonprofit health cooperatives, or “co-ops,” are being proposed as an option to compete with the private sector and as an alternative to a government-sponsored public health insurance option. Co-ops are owned and governed by the same people they insure.
The House and Senate plans both establish “co-ops” and strip insurance companies of an antitrust exemption that has been in place since the end of World War II.
What happened to the public option?
The House bill creates a public option, which is a government-funded, government-run health care option, similar to Medicare. The public option would be a part of an insurance exchange available to people without coverage or unable to afford private coverage.
The Senate bill does not create a public option. Instead, it allows nonprofit private insurers to offer coverage with approval of Office of Personnel Management, which oversees the federal employees’ health plan.
    What will happen to Medicaid?
The House and Senate bills would both significantly expand Medicaid, the government-run health care plan for the poor.
The House plan extends coverage to individuals earning up to 150 percent of the poverty line, or roughly $33,000 for a family of four.
The Senate plan extends coverage to those earning up to 133 percent of the poverty level, or just over $29,000 for a family of four.
Will abortion treatments be funded with federal dollars?
The House bill prohibits any health plan receiving federal subsidies from offering coverage for abortion.
The Senate plan allows states to choose whether to ban abortion coverage in health plans offered in the insurance exchanges. Individuals purchasing plans through the exchanges would have to pay for abortion coverage out of their own funds.
    Will illegal immigrants be covered?
The House bill mandates insurance coverage for illegal immigrants and allows illegal immigrants to enroll in the public option and to buy private coverage in the national insurance exchange, but prohibits government subsidies for such private coverage.
The Senate plan exempts illegal immigrants from the health coverage mandate, and prohibits illegal immigrants from participating in the insurance exchanges.

  • Alcohol: Is it really good for you?

Alcohol is bad for you. Red wine is good for the heart. It’s all about moderation… Confused? You’re not alone.
Government guidelines state that men and women should not consume more than 21 or 14 alcoholic drinks each week.
Yet the Million Women study reported that just one drink a week increases your risk of breast, pharynx and liver cancer.
No wonder a recent UK survey for the World Cancer Research Fund found that people are deeply sceptical about claims for what causes or prevents cancer.
In exploring the alcohol-cancer connection, Radio 4’s Frontiers reveals a frightening lack of knowledge about how alcohol interacts with the body.
    Toxic compounds
Scientists do not know definitively why we get hangovers or how alcohol may be causing cancer.

In high doses it does seem to enhance the lifespan of mice – but you need huge doses
    Professor Roger Corder
Alcohol is metabolised in the body into toxic compounds – but how these compounds cause damage is unknown.
Since genetics, gender and age play an important role in how we interact with alcohol, a safe amount for one is not safe for another.
The negative effects of alcohol on health and the economy are reported regularly in the media and highlighted by the government.
But despite the link between alcohol and cancer being known for over 100 years, it is an area of research that is little understood and, according to many scientists, underfunded.
This means that drinkers, no matter how moderate their consumption, are not fully aware of the risks or damage, as the science is not there.
In fact, many drinkers believe they are improving their health.
    Myth
“It’s an absolute myth that red wine is good for you,” says Professor Valerie Beral from the University of Oxford and lead author of the Million Women study.
    “The evidence is not there.”
Professor Roger Corder, author of The Red Wine Diet, would disagree.
“Our research identified a group of chemicals called procyanadins which are polyphenols, and the key component in terms of protecting from heart disease.”
Polyphenols, such as the antioxidant resveratrol, are found in the skins of red wine grapes.
“In high doses it does seem to enhance the lifespan of mice. But,” he adds crucially, “you need huge doses.”
In humans, it equates to thousands of litres of wine.
Professor Corder dismisses wines that effectively promote themselves as a health drink, with ‘rich in polyphenols’ or ‘rich in antioxidants’ on the label.
But, he says, two small glasses of a very tannic, procyanadin rich wine would confer a benefit.
“The problem is that most supermarket wines are low procyanadin and high alcohol,” he said.
“We’re promoting bad wine for bad habits.”

Frontiers is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Monday 8 June at 2100 BST.
