With about 9% votes , DMDK of Vijayakanth‘s, joining hands with AIADMK, is likely to cause an upset for DMK.

There have been tug of war between DMDK and AIADMK, on the number of seats to DMMK (DMDK seems to have demanded 80;AIAMK was prepared to offer 45) and the use of MGR‘s name by Vijayakanth during elections.

Issue seems to have been sorted out.

DMDK’s three-member election committee — Panruti S Ramachandran, L K Sudhish and R Sundararajan — arrived at the AIADMK headquarters on Thursday to officially cement the alliance and hold the first formal seat- sharing talks with the AIADMK team that included O Paneerselvam, K A Sengottaiyan and Pollachi K Jayaraman. DMDK insisted on 50 seats while AIADMK offered 41. The final figure could be 48 seats, sources said.

With a new partner in, AIADMK has pieced together a 14-party alliance, including MDMK, CPM, CPI, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Republican Party of India, Puthiya Thamizhagam, Forward Bloc, All-India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam, Indian National League, actor R Sarath Kumar‘s AgilaIndia Samathuva Makkal Katchi, actor M Karthik’s Agila India Nadalum Makkal Katchi and director Seeman’s Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam.

Emerging from an hour-long meeting, Panruti indicated that his party has finalized a pact with AIADMK. But he didn’t reveal details as a formal announcement would probably be done by AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa and Vijayakanth on Sunday. Thursday being Jayalalithaa’s birthday, the pact was a birthday gift to their party leader, senior AIADMK leaders said.

Ending days of uncertainty over its electoral strategy, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) of actor Vijayakant on Thursday said it would join hands with the AIADMK in seeking to oust the DMK regime in Tamil Nadu.
