  • 2 G Scam,Intimidating Media and Bloggers -DMK Style.

    I have been blogging on Corruption issue , especially on the 2G scam and other swindles by the DMK, for quite some time.

    I Have been getting hate mails calling me names,like’ Brahmin Dog from Bangalore‘.

    For bigger people and companies, the DMK seems to reserve the intimidating tactics of threatening legal notices.

    DMK Chief  was seen indicating of the Sacred Thread of Brahmins(Yagyopaveedham), while defending 2G Scam on TV.

    He has been harping on Brahmin and North Indian Conspiracy for the present cases for quite some time now.

    He has not gone shrill as yet because the present generation has seen through his tactics.

    He is preparing to go all out on North- South divide to regain his popularity.

    Media must be aware of this and telecast his antics in front of the camera to show his true colors.

    A news Channel muted the sound bytes when he was making crude  gestures indicating Brahmins.

    ‘The DMK leaders — including Chief Minister M Karunanidhi — condemned the ”biased attitude” of the Brahmin-dominated journalistic community at Madras. Taking exception to a front-page report in The Hindu on Friday that the Salem conference would anoint his son Stalin as his successor, Karunanidhi said the party was not being run on hereditary lines like newspapers.

    The chief minister even resorted to Brahmin-bashing at his inaugural media conference. Did The Hindu ask how that ”Iyer” got all the money for his frequent Delhi-Madras air trips? ”They only raise questions when a Sandra cuts a tree?” he said, making light of the newspaper’s expose on a DMK legislator’s involvement in sandalwood smuggling.

    Karunanidhi said the ”paarpaans” (a derogatory term for Brahmins) found fault with everything his party and the government did. The reason: He and other DMK leaders did not wear the sacred thread.’

    In this connection it is advisable not to be carried away by trying to reply these allegations.We should remain focussed on Corruption without bothering about personal attacks as this would deflect the corruption.

    Whether Brahmin or North Indian,Corruption is Corruption.

    Let us fight in our own way.

    In this connection Tehelka’s reply to Dayanidhi Maran‘s  Legal Notice is worth of note.

    Unfortunately, Mr Maran’s arguments are not only weak but factually insupportable and a mere sleight of hand. Contrary to his assertions, M/S Astro, a Maxis Group company, announced a joint venture with Sun Direct TV in February 2007, barely three months after Aircel, owned by Maxis, had been awarded 14 lucrative licences. In fact, the Foreign Investment and Promotion Board and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting gave Astro the required approval to acquire 20 percent in Sun Direct (owned by Dayanidhi’s brother Kalanidhi and his wife) on 2 March and 19 March 2007 – while Mr Maran was very much the telecom minister.

    While it is true that Mr Maran then resigned on 13 May 2007, it is clear the apparent quid pro quo had already been set in motion while he was in office. What’s more, Mr Maran could not have forseen that he was going to have to resign as telecom minister in May because his resignation was triggered by a sudden family feud and his loss of favour with DMK supremo Karunaidhi, when the latter suspected the Maran brothers of creating a rift between his sons Azhagiri and Stalin.

    Astro’s 20 percent investment in Sun TV at a cost of Rs 315.71 crore – a process begun in February/March 2007 — was completed in December 2007. It then continued to invest further in Sun TV over January 2008 – December 2009. For Mr Maran to argue that he was no longer telecom minister is just sophistry.

    His assertion that he does not possess any shares in Sun TV is also sophistry as there is a clear conflict of interest when a businessman who had benefitted from him invests close to 700 crore in his brother’s company. (Former telecom minister A Raja was sent to jail for much less as Kaliagnar TV belonged to the DMK supremo’s family and Raja was not even directly related to any of its owners.)

  • Maran Had 323 Telephone Lines,Laid cables to SUNTV-Document.

    In his Press meet Dayanidhi Maran stated  that the GM -Telephones had issued him a letter way back that he(Maran) had only one line.

    He also argued that there has been a systematic campaign to tarnish the image of him,his Family and his Party( DMK) in that order.

    Raja,his party Minister in the central government is in Jail,his  Great Uncle‘s daughter in Jail(Kanimozhi),his brother’s company MD in Jail,his great Uncle’s legal wife escaped  because of age and illiteracy in English(I hope this is a temporary reprieve for her),his party defends him through third rung leaders like Muthuramalingam, whom no body knows

    What else he has left to be tarnished!

    Ink in the pen of his lawyer had not dried after issuing legal notice to Tehelka yesterday in connection with the expose on Maxi-SUN DTH-Aircell,he has issued legal notice to new Indian express for this expose.

    At this rate he can have xeroxes of the legal notice ,fill up the names and serve!

    Legal notices served so far are just legal nonsense with no arguments to disprove the expose.

    Best for Tehelka and New Indian Express  is to meet him in court where he has to face cross examination and many more skeletons might come tumbling down.

    A telecom central minister from Tamil Nadu got the BSNL to connect 323 telephone lines to his home, not in Delhi where he had work, but in Chennai where he had none. He got all the 323 home lines listed not in his name but in the name of the Chief General Manager BSNL Chennai. These lines virtually constituted a telephone exchange in the minister’s home. It was exclusively used for his family business by laying 3.4 km long secret cable along public roads to connect the lines to the business premises. This had caused huge loss to BSNL. Who was that enterprising minister? The infamous A Raja? No. It is the famous Dayanidhi Maran; Raja’s predecessor, now the central Textile Minister. The CBI, which probed the fraud, wrote to the Secretary Telecom on 10.9.2007 recommending action against Maran for the fraud….

    Dayanidhi Maran was obviously not playing marbles with 323 telephones. He got the BSNL to lay separate and exclusive underground cable from his Boat Club home to the SUN TV office at Anna Arivalayam in Anna Salai and fraudulently linked the 323 home lines to his brother Kalanidhi’s SUN TV network. The first 23 of the 323 lines bore numbers ‘243722 11’ to ‘24372301’ and the next 300 lines bore numbers ‘24371500’ to ‘24371799’. Since the first four digits ‘2437’ were common for all 323 lines, the lines constituted a home telephone exchange. The Dayanidhi home exchange was operational in the SUN TV establishment for at least months from January 2007 through the fraudulent cable connection from Dayanidhi’s Boat Club home. They were no ordinary telephone lines, but costly ISDN lines, which could carry tons and tons of TV news and programmes faster than satellites to any part of the world. These lines, the CBI says in its report, are “normally used by medium to large commercial enterprises to meet special needs such as video conferencing, transmission of huge volume of digital data of audio and video” – precisely the facility that SUN TV would need for its telecasting operations. For this, the SUN TV would have paid huge cost. But it got it all free, at government’s cost…..

    The Maran home exchange, says the CBI, was “programmed in such a way that no one other than the authorised BSNL staff were aware of the existence of such an Exchange created for his [minister’s] exclusive use”. It added that by linking the minister’s home and SUN TV office by the stealthy cables, “it would appear as if the lines were used in the residence of the former minister, but actually the cables laid facilitated SUN TV network to utilise the services of BSNL provided at his residence”.  Google map shows the distance to SUN TV as 3.4 kms along the main artery roads of the area, which were dug up to bury the illegal underground cables from Maran home to SUN TV office! It was not one of those secret White Collar frauds, but a crime committed in the open roads.

    What could be the probable loss to the exchequer by this fraud? On “a sample study”, the CBI says, “it is learnt that 48,72,027 units of calls have emanated from [just] one Telephone No 24371515 in the month of March 2007 alone, which is indicative of the massive multimedia transfer in the underlying connections”. Just one of the 323 lines accounted for over 48 lakh call units in March 2007 alone – Yes almost 49 lakh call units in one month, through one of the 323 phones! Assume that each of the 323 connections was put to use as efficiently as Marans had operated the Number 24371515; the total number of call units SUN TV would have unlawfully robbed the BSNL during January 2007 to April 2007 [Maran resigned on May 13] could be as high as 629.5 crore call units. With the prevailing rate of 70 paise per call unit could the loss to BSNL be as high as `440 crore? Only a thorough investigation can reveal the true loot. But, the story does not end here. SUN TV’s print cousin ‘Dinakaran’, too has got its share of the loot. Says the CBI: “It is also learnt that similar service connections with ISDN facilities have been provided at the office of Dinakaran, a Tamil Daily, belonging to the group of SUN TV Network at Madurai, though specific phone numbers are not available”. But how did the CBI get to investigate the fraud and where is its report now? It calls for a brief flash back…..

    The CBI had recommended action against Maran as early as in September 2007.

    But the CBI letter is obviously sleeping somewhere since then, and for the last 44 months. The CBI letter had specifically asked the Telecom Secretary to bring the matter “to the notice of” Raja. So the case against Maran of DMK was to be approved by Raja also of DMK….

  • 2G Kanimozhi Arrested, CBI’s Reasons and Karunanidhi’s Reaction.CBI

    DMK has planned to meet to assess the situation and take a further legal course. Kani is taken the jail number 6 on Tihar jail. She will have to summon before Patiala Court every day from now.

    Talking to Press,Karunanidhi said that he was as ‘Unhappy as any of those present , whose daughter has been arrested for a crime she did not commit’.(no father would have encouraged a daughter to behave like this and- ‘not committed any crime?)

    The legal wife of Karunanidhi ,son M.K.Stalin and another son Azhagiri are reported to have told him not  to have anything to do with Kanimozhi.

    A movement which is supposed to be built (imaginary,of course) on Self-respect(as if others have none) has hocked the innocent ,hardworking party workers and the party to the whims of a Family.

    Let us wait for the further humiliation of the party at the general Council meet-whether the party will be forsaken for the daughter or not?

    Excellent is the coverage of SUN TV and Kalaignar TV on the arrest of Kanimozhi.

    While SUN did not utter a single sentence, Kalaignar TV telecast Karunanidhi’s Press meet where the above comments of Karunanidhi.

    Kalaignar TV also stated that Kanimozhi  was arrested despite Kalaignar TV having repaid the 214 Crore!

    The party general council will meet on the continuation of the alliance with Congress.( any choice?)

    CBI’s 14 Reasons.

    The key reasons cited by the CBI are:

    * Once CBI registered its 2G FIR, the kickback of Rs 200 crore paid to Kalaignar TV was refunded. “In fact, the date December 23, 2010, when the refund of the amount started, coincides with the date when A Raja was summoned to CBI office,” CBI said.

    *Even though funds from Kusegaon Fruits & Vegetables were transferred to Cineyug Films in December 2008, the agreement between the two companies for shareholding and subscription only came into existence after registration of the FIR and CBI had carried out searches on various premises.

    *The two companies — Cineyug Films and Kalaignar TV — have failed to produce the original shares subscription and shareholder agreement between them. Only a photocopy of the agreement was given to the agency and it is not on a stamp paper and hence not enforceable in law.

    *Cineyug Films paid Rs 25 crore to Kalaignar TV till March 31, 2009 claiming that the money was transacted for the purpose of acquiring equity of Kalaignar TV. However, in the balance sheet of Kalaignar TV dated March 31, 2009, no application for shareholding by Cineyug was mentioned against the money. One year later, in the balance sheet dated March 31, 2010, the amount was regrouped as unsecured loan and a figure of Rs 25 crore was shown in this head as on March 31, 2009. The CBI claims that in October 2009, the investigations were started and hence the regrouping of the amount as a loan was “clearly an act of window dressing and an afterthought”.

    * Kusegaon Fruits & Vegetables has claimed that it had no formal agreement with Dynamix Realty for a loan of Rs 209.25 crore.

    DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD and CEO Sharad Kumar have been arrested in the 2G spectrum scam case. A Special Central Bureau of Investigating (CBI) court dismissed the bail petition of Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar in the case on Friday following which they were taken into custody.

    While rejecting their bail petition Judge OP Saini ordered their “forthwith” arrest and directed the duo to appear before it at 10 am on Saturday. Kanimozhi and Kumar will be lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail.

    She hugged her husband Aravindan and was in tears before being arrested. A Raja‘s wife MA Parameshwari also walked upto her and comforted her. She also sought permission from the court to get her reading glasses, books and medicines.

    The DMK MP can only move to Delhi High Court for bail.

    DMK leaders, including its parliamentary party chief T R Baalu, was present in the court. Minutes after the court pronounced its order, three DMK MPs broke down while others were seen making frantic calls.

  • AIADMK Set For Landslide Win in Tamil Nadu.

    A the time of this piece being written,AIADMK,led by Jayalalithaa, is heading for a 3/4 majority in the recently concluded polls for which counting is still on.

    AIAMK is leading in 160 seats.

    DMK 41

    That the AIADMK shall win was expected ,but not on this scale independently.

    DMDK of Vijaykanth has helped to ward off DMK in the traditional stronghold of DMK in North Tamil Nadu;Western Tamil Nadu has been brought into fold by splitting the Community based Kongu  Peravai etc.

    But the DMK could not fare well in southern parts ,despite Azhzgiri;s muscle and money power is astonishing.

    It seems that the people have been waiting to pounce on the DMK.

    As this is being written,except Karunanidhi, his son Stalin,Deputy Chief Minister, and Durai Murugan,  all other Ministers seem to heading for a rout.

    Vijaykanth has definitely ,with his 8% vote bank, swung the total votes in favor of the AIADMK.

    However AIADMKhas done extremely well on its own where Vijaykanth did not split anti-DMK voted.

    Scoring 25 seats out of 41 seats contested in four years can not be wished away,thanks to AIADMK alliance.

    With what cheek did Congress demanded 63 seats from DMK,even to the point of wrecking alliance, whn they have landed with 8 seats?

    A percentage of about 7-8 %of total votes polled from its traditional 20%

    Reasons for DMK rout is not far to seek.

    Institutionalization Family Corruption.

    Power Cuts.

    Illegal sand quarrying.

    Keeping mum on Srilankan Tamil issue.

    Of course 2G scam.

    The Election Commission.

    The fal out will be the Karunanidhi family feuds will become more acrimonious and public.

    KaniMozhi‘s fate will be in Congress’s hands.

    Congress will be pleased that it had got rid of the 2G monkey off its back.

    It can breathe easy at the Center , with out Karuninidhi’s Blackmail.

    Pronob Mukherjee hinted at this in his immediate reaction to results in Tamil Nadu by saying ‘this is expected’-possibly articulating that this is the best way to get away from DMK-but the price is too heavy.

    As to Congress , time it realized that it pays to heed to Rahul Gandhi and stand the Elections alone in Tamil Nadu-may be they would get less seats than what they used to get traditionally, but would never have below 8 seats any way and got rid of the old and useless paper leaders of Congress in Tamil Nadu and infuse young blood.

    But it is in denial mode, excepting Mani Shankar Aiyar.

    For others, like Kaarthi Chidambarm, son of P.Chidambaram,Corruption is a non issue and the fact that party cadres did not want DMK alliance .

    Congress today attributed the DMK-led alliance’s rout in Tamil Nadu to anti-incumbency and explained away by saying it was the turn of the Opposition AIADMK to come to power. Health

    Minister and party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said the “anti-incumbency factor” played a major role in the defeat of the DMK-Congress combine in Tamil Nadu.

    “In states like Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Kerala hardly any party has won successive terms. There is always a change in the government. This time there is a change,” he told TV channels.

    “Anti-incumbency factor played a major role. Last time, it was the turn of the DMK to win and this time if one goes by that convention it was AIADMK’s turn,” he said.
