  • Temple Food Ghee Remains Pure Lamp Burns For A Year

There is a Temple in Hassan, Karnataka, where the Food offered to the Deity remains warm and edible after one year;lamps lit Ghee in the Sanctum remains burning for a Year, without the Ghee being replenished as the Temple does not remain open for a year after closing.

This Hasanmba Temple built around 12 Century AD.

    Hasanamba means’ ever smiling’

The Temple is open for only a week during Deepavali Festival and is reopened the next year during Deepavali.

    Legend.

The devotees believe that the benevolent Goddess smiles down upon them and showers her blessings. In many Indian languages, ‘hasya’ means humor. It is believed that the Goddess smiles down on the devotees who worship her.

While she is worshipped for being benevolent, she is also harsh to those who choose to harm her devotees. There is a belief that Amma Hasanamba turned a mother in law, who tortured Devi’s devotee the (daughter in law), in to a stone in front of her. It is believed it the stone moves an inch every year and when it reaches the lotus feet of Hasanamba the period of kaliyuga will end.

Once 4 robbers attempted to rob jewels of Hasanamba and Devi turned them in to stones. And these four stones can be still seen in Kallappa Gudi.

    How To reach.

The Hasanamba temple is in the heart of Hassan city and can easily be reached by road from Hassan in an auto rickshaw. It is just a couple of hours away from Bangalore by road and is convenient as a weekend getaway with plenty of accommodation options available in and around Hassan.

Here the Ravana’s Sculpture has only Nine heads instead of Ten.

  • Lalita Shodasi Fiftten Nithya Devis List Explanation

The Moon is considered as a Devata in Hinduism.

It is reckoned as a Planet in Indian Astrology.

Moon rules the mind and is responsible for the soundness of mind.

If the Moon sign is not favorable, one is assailed by doubts, indecision, confusion ans depression.

    Moon waxes and wanes.

From the New Moon day(Amavasya), it waxes.

This period of waxing till the Full Moon (Poornima) is called the Shukla Paksha, Shulka means white.

Waning from the Full Moon to New Moon is Krishna Paksha, Krisha mans black

There are 1 5 Days in between Poornima and Amavasya.

Each day, the Moon’s effulgence(Kala) is ruled by a Devi

    They are sixteen .

    They Kalas are,

    1.Amrita,
    2.Manada,
    3.Poosha,
    4.Tusthi,
    5.Pusthi,
    6.Rati,
    7.Dhruti,
    8.Sasichini,
    9.Chandrika,
    10.Kanta,
    11.Jyostna,
    12.Shree,
    13.Preeti,
    14.Angada,
    15.Poorna and
    16.Poornamruta.

    The sixteenth Kala is invisible.

Each of these Kalas is ruled by a Devi.

    These ae Shodasa(16) Nithyas,

    1.Maha Tripura Sundari,
    2.Kameswari,
    3.Bhagamalini,
    4.Nityaklinna,
    5.Bherunda,
    6.Vanhivasini,
    7.Maha Vajreswari,
    8.Shivadooti (Roudri),
    9.Twarita,
    10.Kulasundari,
    11.Nitya,
    12.Neelapataka,
    13.Vijaya,
    14.Sarvamangala,
    15.Jwalamalini and
    16.Chidroopa (Chitra).

The first one, Maha Tripura Sundari is the Devi Para Shakti herself, and hence the kala ruled by her is not visible to the normal mortals.

In the Sri Chakra these 15 nityas are present in the innermost circle, and the Devi is in the central Bindu.

These 15 Nityas rule the famous 15 letters Devi mantra known as Panchadasakshari Mantra.

Ka E Aie La Hreem Ha Sa Ka Ha La Hreem Sa Ka La Hreem
These 15 Nityas in the form of the 15 Tithis (Phases) have two aspects each – Prakashamsa, which rules the day portion of the Tithi, and Vimarshamsa,

which rules the night part of the Tithi. At night they collect the divine nectar and during the day they release it.
On Poornima or full moon day all the 15 Nityas are in the moon and the moon is shining brightly. On the 1st Thithi after the Poornima, i.e., Pratipada,

one Nitya leaves the moon and goes to the sun and the moon is reduced slightly in size.

This goes on till New Moon.

After Amavasya they return one by one on each Tithi and the moon starts shining again till its full on the Poornima when the last Nitya returns to it.

This is called Shukla Paksha. Kameswari to Chitra are the Nityas ruling the Krishna Paksha Tithis from Pratipada to Amavasya.

In Shukla Paksha the order of the Nityas is reversed, i.e., Chitra to Kameswari.

The Nitya of the Asthami or 8th Tithi, Twarita, is common and constant to both the Pakshas. Hence she adorns the crown of Devi.

The inner triangle of Sri Chakra is known as the Sarva Siddhiprada Chakra and the Nityas are next only to Tripura Sundari in importance.

Kameswari is Goddess Parvati, Vajreswari is Maha Lakshmi and Bhagamalini is Goddess Saraswati.

One Year has 360 days and 360 nights(720)

There are 720 aspects of Devi in a Year.

Each Devi rules 100 Nadis in our body.

Our Body has 72, 000 Nadis.

The Nityas or Eternities of Lalitha represent the fifteen lunar days or Thithis of the waxing Moon.

Each has her own Yantra, mantra, tantra and Prayogas or ritual applications.

The full circle of the Nithyas also represents the 21,600 breaths a human being takes in a full day and night.

As such, the Nithyas are the Kalachakra, or Wheel of Time.

The 15 Nityas are modifications of Lalita with her three Gunas and her five elements of aether, air, fire, water and earth.

As the moon remains itself, though appearing differently according to phase, so too does Lalita.

Lalita or Tripurasundari is the 16th day or full moon, with her 15 digits.

Each of the Nityas has a certain number of arms, the totality of arms (= rays) of the whole circle being 108.

Because any unit of time is taken as a microcosm or parallel of any other valid unit, each of the fifteen Nityas thus has 1,440 breaths.

This identity between space, time, Tripurasundari and the individual is elaborated at great length in the Tantraraja Tantra.

The Nityas are the vowels of the Sanskrit alphabet and are identical with both time and space.

For example, if the number of tattvas or consonants (36) are multiplied by the 16 Nityas the number of letters is 576

The multiples of this number provide the number of years in the different Yugas. So the circle of the matrikas and the Nityas is identical with the sidereal zodiac as well as mantra.

This is the primary reason why Poornima Pooja is performed for Devi.

Pooja performed on a Full Moon Day will yield  thousand fold effects.

  • Navavarana Pooja Lalitha Tripura Sundari Principle

The Navarana Pooja for Devi is considered  as Supreme in the worship of Lalitha Devi, Tripura Sundari.

This forms a part of Tantra Shastra of Hinduism.

    Avarana means concealment,masking, obstruction.

The attempt to realize self is  is paved the path of Obstructions.

This lies with the individuals mind and ego.

    Lalitha Tripurasundari image.image
    Lalitha Tripurasundari

Losing one’s ego and the impediments of the mind clears the way for realization, first the Saguna Brahma,Reality of Name and Form.

Once the level is reached, one is automatically guided to the Ultimate Reality, the Nirguna Brahman.

The Avaranas of are of two kinds.

    1.Klesa Avarana.

Klesa means confusion, unable to decide.

Sinful desires, Lust, hankering after Wealth, lead to misery.

These obstruct the individual in spiritual path.

The removal of these obstacles,Klesaprahan is essential.( Gaudapadakarika)

Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Madha, Mathsarya, Dvesha, Moha, Maana are some of the Klesas.

    The other in Jneya Avarana.

Here the object of worship is seen as different from the subject, from the one who is worshiping.

The merging of the worshiper and the worshiped is Realization.

There are procedures laid down in the Tantra Shastras for the removal of the Avaranas.

A form of Pooja performed to Goddess Lalitha Devi, Tripura Sundari is called the Navarana Pooja.

This Pooja is performed for the Sri Chakra.

It is essential to understand the construction of Ari Yantra before starting the Pooja.

Five downward pointing triangles representing Devi intersect with four upward pointing triangles representing Siva, forming 43 triangles including the central triangle.

From the five Shakti triangles comes creation and from the four Shiva triangles comes the dissolution.

The union of five Shaktis and four Fires causes the chakra of creation to evolve.

At the centre of the bindu of the Shri Yantra is Kamakala.

It has three bindus. One is red, one is white and one is mixed.

The red bindu is Kurukulla the Female form, the white bindu is Varahi the Male form, and the mixed bindu is the union of Shiva & Shakti – the individual as the potential Shri Cakra. Varahi, the father-form, gives four dhatus to the child and Kurukulla, the mother-form, gives five dhatus to the child. Theses represent the nine dhatus of the human body.

Varahi’s four fires are the 12 (4 x 3) sun Kalasa, the 12 Zodiac constellations. Kurukulla’s five triangles are the 15 (5 x 3) Kalas of the moon, 15 lunar Tithis.

These nine triangles also represent the nine stages of growth of the human child in the womb.

Surrounding the 43 triangles formed by the intersection of the nine triangles is the 16 petals circle.

Surrounding the 16 petal circle is an 8 petal circle.

After that the 3 lines and at the outermost part of the Sriyantra there are 3 lines called the Bhupura.

The 43 triangles constitute the six inner sections called Avaranas, the two circles of petals are two more avaranas and the Bhupura of 3 lines is the last Avarana.

These 9 Avaranas of the Sri Yantra have various presiding Devis.

They are the Devi’s Parivar (retinue) of total 108. In the Srichakra pooja they are systematically worshipped one by one with their names and mantras.

The presiding Deity of Srichakra, Devi, is Known as Lalita Tripura Sundari.

The form of Devi Kamakshi of Kancheepuram is the closest resemblance of the Devi as described in the scriptures.

Lalita means The One Who Plays.

All creation, manifestation and dissolution is considered to be a play of Devi.

Tri-Pura means the three worlds and Sundari means beauty.

She is the transcendent beauty of the three worlds.

    She is the ruler of the the three gunas of Satva, Rajas and Tamas; and sun, moon and fire – the zodiac and the planets, and therefore Time itself;

She is also “tripura” as Will (Iccha), Knowledge (Jnana) and Action (Kriya).

She is also “tripura” as intellect, feelings & physical sensation; and She is triple as the three states of the soul – awakening, dreaming and -sleeping states.

Her five triangles also represent the Pancha Tatwas and the Pancha Bhootas. ( ”Panchami pancha bhuteshi pancha sankhyopacharini “. Lalitha Sahasranama)

Lalita holds five flowery arrows, noose, goad and bow. The noose represents attachment, the goad represents repulsion, the sugarcane bow represents the mind and the flowery arrows are the five sense objects.

    Devi Bhagavatham

  • Prathyangira Homa Temple Morattandi

I have posted an article on Prathyangira Devi recently.

Some readers wanted details of a Pratyangira Devi Temple, where Pratyangira Homa is conducted.

    A note on Pratyangira Devi.

“Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi is a powerful aspect of divine mother.

She is considered to be a powerful repellent of the influences generated by witch-craft.

Terrible in aspect, having dark complexion, reddened eyes and in four hands she hold a trident, a serpent in the form of a noose and a hand drum.

Her hair strands at the ends. As Pratyangira energy manifests, it’s often a very swift and sometimes ferocious current.

This combination of lion and human forms is said to represent the balance of good and evil.

Many of the Saints who’ve seen its energetic expression have described her as a 1008 headed (symbolically representing the 1008-petalled Sahasrara Chakra, the universal chakra of the cosmic energy) and with 2016 hands, riding majestically on a chariot pulled by 4 lions (representing the 4 Vedas), lion-faced mother, armed with many swords for removing obstacles.

The jaws of so many lions make it very powerful for destroying negative karmas, and a great help to anyone on a spiritual path.

Though such a current can be understandably rough and it’s wise to approach with respect and some consideration of what our heart is asking for, it’s with that same intensity that Pratyangira radiates her love, so it’s best to also be open to deeply receive.

There is a Temple for Prathyangira at Marattandi, near Puducherry/Pondicherry, on the Tindivanam Road.

Prathyangira Homam is performed every month on Shukla Paksha Ashtami (Waxing Moon).

The Temple has a 72 feet Idol of Pratyangira Devi outside the temple and a small idol is inside.

The temple is about 4 feet underground.

    Temple Hours.
