All Are Born Equal , Yet…. Thiruvalluvar s Second Line சிறப்பொவ்வா

Today ,We find people saying that All are born equal and that there is no difference.

Anyone who dares to talk about this is called Sanatani,A Rightist, Racist and one who has fascist tendency.

But has any one tried to analyse or understand this concept?

We say all are born equal.

    Right.

    In what way?

    Are all of us identical?

Do all of us have the same features, skin tone,Voice,Hair,Behaviour, likes, dislikes, Dispositions and our reactions to situations, our emotions, our cognitive abilities?

Science, specifically Biology tells you that Not even two of your two strands of hair are identical, your right half of your body is not identical to the left part of your body; your Blood, it has a different groups, the cells of the different parts of your body are unique and different from the other parts of your body: Your own parents, blood relatives body parts do not match at all times yours , should you need organs: your likes and skillsets, your response cand ability to deal with situations and emotions are different even fro your twin.

    How come All are equal?

When you say someone is different or Special ,it means they are different. It does not mean that one is inferior and the other is superior. When a surgeon gives you Life at the operating table, when a great literature is being created, when someone achieves what I can not achieve , I recognise him as Special and acknowledge him / her.

When I talk about Valmiki ,Veda Vyasa, Nanaiah,Basavannah,Tulsidass, RabindranathTagore, Joe Root, Ben Stokes,John Mecnroe, Nadal,Federer Messi,Sachin Tendulkar,Virat Kohli, Shakespeare,Kalidasa, Thirukkural, Thevaram,Thiruvasakam, Ilayaraja Dr. Rajkumar,NTR, Sivaji Ganesan,Shane Warne,Ricky Ponting,Kane Williamson, Hussain Bolt, Vikramaditya,Rajaraja Chozha,Rajendra Chozha,Pulikesi,Harshavardhana,Kalhana, Tholkappiyar,Kapilar,Nakeekerer,Kambhar,Ilango Adigal,Azhwars,Nayanmars, Kamaraj,Kakkan, Narayana Bhattathri,Immanuel Kant,Rene Descates, Einstein,Bohr,Buddha,a Rakesh Sharma..I Doff my hat and recognise they are Special and different because of their deeds. Those deeds are the result of their dispositions , Skillsets , dedication and hard work

And that is what makes them different from me and I am not equal to them.

This is what Sanatan Dharma says too.

Translation of the above below. The interpretation is by a great Tamil Scholar Dr. Mu. Varadharaasan.

All living beings have the same nature of birth, yet the characteristics are not the same because of the high and low differences in the occupations performed. Translation by Google translate.

    கலைஞர் உரை : பிறப்பினால் அனைவரும் சமம் செய்யும் தொழிலில் காட்டுகிற திறமையில் மட்டுமே வேறுபாடு காண முடியும்.

Translation from the site from the above lines Google Translate.

‘All beings are the same in birth But work decides their varied worth. This explanation is by Sree. Karunanidhi former Chief minister of Tamilnadu .Another translation of the same by All languages translation by AI.

Difference can be seen only in the skill shown in the profession where all are equal by birth.

    Explanation :

All human beings agree as regards their birth but differ as regards their characteristics, because of the different qualities of their actions’

    Source. Kaapiyam, an excellent source.

    My Translation.

Though All are born equal, special characteristics of individuals differ in Performance of Actions.

The implication is that though all of us are born equal there exist differences among us because of the actions we perform. All of us do not perform actions the same way. The same action is performed by different individuals in their unique style and way, say like a surgeon performing Surgery ( though the basic text book procedure is common to all, each surgeon has a different style). And that is what makes the individuals different , Special, that is the special nature of individuals are not equal or different from others ( Sirappovva -சிறப்பொவ்வா)

Another excellent explanation from a site . I have provided the link.

We are all equal when we are born. We are not differentiated by our parents’ profession, pride and fame. But by the actions we do in life, by the way we do them, by the honesty, hard work, professional elegance, and quality of doing them, our excellence and pride will change. Our value lies in the honesty, hard work, elegance and quality of work we do. Everyone should be treated equally. Therein lies our character. He is not distinguished by his clan by the profession he does. His integrity and professionalism set him apart.

  • Anna ,’Lao ya Jao’ – Santosh Hegde’s Confusions and Contradictions.

Note the contradiction and confusion in these statements.

The statement in question is in regard to Anna Hazare‘s ‘Lao or Jao’-bring the Bill or Quit to the Government.

Apart from the fact that none in a Democracy can ask the  Government to quit as one wishes but only through the due process of Parliament, it speaks volumes of the fascist tendencies in Anna Hazare.( I do not know whether he is even aware of this)

If one were to be frustrated and can make statements which are sheer non sense and naivety, how does it make him qualified to lead a movement of this magnitude, which ,if not handled properly will breed anarchy?

‘I will not be party to any move to overthrow a democratically elected government‘ says Hegde and in the same breath adds..

‘I will not be party to the creation of an institution which is parallel either to the Constitution or Parliament.Every order of the Lokpal will be subject to scrutiny by the Supreme Court.‘ and adds another gem
‘In what way is Parliament supreme There are thousands of laws passed by Parliament and some of them have been questioned in court?.’

    He goes on…
‘There will be 11 Lokpals. We have the Prevention of Corruption Act,but how many come forward to file cases ?’

    Rightly said.

Then do they not know that it is  the individual initiative in fighting Corruption than laws is the key?

This is exactly what I have been saying all along in my blogs-it is not that laws are not there but the individual’s unwillingness to bribe , not to seek easier route and the innate fear of filing complaints against corruption-that is the reason for the rampant corruption.

Detailed blog on Fighting Corruption follows.-which is practical, though besotted with some obstacles.

That can be overcome if fraction of the population follows it rather than enacting a law which again will prove to be useless.

“The statement was not meant to overthrow a democratically-elected government. It was a statement of anger by Hazare because of the treatment meted out to him by the government. It was not intentional but the consequence of frustration building up,and I will not be party to any move to overthrow a democratically elected government.Such a remark happens when the government goes on pretending to play games….

Doesnt the Jan Lokpal bill have features of an all-powerful parallel body of supreme policing

I will not be party to the creation of an institution which is parallel either to the Constitution or Parliament.Every order of the Lokpal will be subject to scrutiny by the Supreme Court.

With corruption rampant, will a Lokpal be able to handle the situation

There will be 11 Lokpals. We have the Prevention of Corruption Act,but how many come forward to file cases

By putting a gun to Parliaments head that the bill be passed by August 30,isnt Team Anna stalling dialogue

Who started the dialogue They are the ones who have pushed us to this situation and we are criticized now as holding a gun to Parliament….

What is Team Annas definition of Parliaments supremacy

In what way is Parliament supreme There are thousands of laws passed by Parliament and some of them have been questioned in court.Article 105(2) of the Constitution says no Member of Parliament shall be liable to any proceedings in any court in respect of anything said,or any vote given by him in Parliament or any committee. However,if a public figure is indulging in graft and the Lokpal learns of it,action can be taken. How does it then become interference of the House

What about corruption in the private sector

The jurisdiction of Prevention of Corruption Act is only public servants. In a private sector,if two persons are giving and taking a bribe, nothing can be done unless its between a government agency and private party, where the latter becomes an abettor. The Jan Lokpal Bill covers all NGOs which take aid from the government.”

Do you mean to say Corruption in Private sector is all right?

‘Corruption’ is between two individuals ultimately.

  • Syria -Why and What Next?

    Flag of Syria
    Image via Wikipedia

Repression breeds contempt and it leads to people’s  anger , which spills into streets.

The so-called Democracies which seem to pontificate on Freedom have been supporting the tin pot dictators till the other day.

People do not know whom to turn to.

If you really are for Democracy, you have to refrain from supporting dictators and support only Free Society at all times.

Other wise,  revolutions and counter revolutions shall become a vicious cycle.

We seem to have done away with Gaddafi, more or less.

    But what next?

The present rulers are at a loss as to what to do next.

Had we taken refrained from supporting dictators or at least refrained from extending aid to the dictator and help build a democratic opposition, things would not have come to such a pass.

Hamza Ali al-Khateeb, a round-faced 13-year-old boy, was arrested at a protest in Jiza, a southern Syrian village near Dara’a, on April 29. Nothing was known of him for a month before his mutilated corpse was returned to his family on the condition, according to activists, that they never speak of his brutal end….

Circulating in various versions, the video has injected new life into a six-week uprising against President Bashar al-Assad that has appeared to settle into a bloody stalemate of protests and violent government responses. In the days since news of the death spread, more than 58,000 people have visited and expressed support for a Facebook pagememorializing the boy, Hamza Ali al-Khateeb, as a “child martyr.”

Demonstrators in several Syrian cities protested the boy’s death last weekend, weaving chants and banners dedicated to him into the mix of antigovernment slogans that have become staples of the uprisings shaking the Arab world.

In a revolutionary season that has seen countless “Fridays of Rage” in half a dozen countries, Syrian activists marched on a day that some dubbed “the Saturday of Hamza.”

“People are very upset about the death of the young boy Hamza,” said one man active in protests in Homs, who asked not to be named for fear of the security forces. “He was just a child. It is a crime, a serious crime.”

  • NPR executive Resigns. Journalists Apolitical? No.

    Journalists are human beings.

It is like burying one’s head in the sand assuming that Journalists are apolitical.

Every individual has his opinions:one can not be expected not to express his views.

If,by expressing in Public,Public opinion is molded, even then it can not be called as a sin.

    Let the Majority (?!) decide.

However the expressions used are in bad taste.

( I think most people agree to the fact that all politicians  are not only ‘anti intellectual’ but buffoons and Criminals as well,at least as far as India concerned;that Jews control US is a fact)

It is also a Myth that Media is neutral.

    With reference to whom?

We might say ,by being hated by all the parties, Media can be said to be Neutral.

    Is this a sound argument?

Fact is media is as Neutral as its proprietors are.

On the other point that public Funds for media in the form of subsidy is that it leads to arm twisting by Governments at critical times.

Look at new York Times; they wih-held information on Raymond Davis at the pleasure of the White House.

Inject more funds from Government to media, the result is Goebbels in full force.

Private sector in Media is also not above board.

Look at media influencing Government right from Cabinet posts in India.

( please read my stories under Media/corruption ).

With all these warts Democracy is still  the best available system for governance right now.

NPR lost its chief executive Wednesday, a day after the news organization was embarrassed by a secretly recorded video that caught one of its top managers calling Republicansanti-intellectual” and tea party members “racists.”

Vivian Schiller, NPR’s top officer, was forced out of her job after two years, just as a Republican-held Congress has accelerated the debate on cutting funds for public broadcasting.

Schiller officially resigned, but there was little doubt she was ousted under pressure from NPR’s board and officials from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the organization that acts as Congress’s liaison in distributing about $430 million a year to public radio and television stations.

Schiller announced she is leaving only about 24 hours after a video surfaced on the Internet with comments by NPR’s top fundraiser, Ron Schiller (no relation to Vivian Schiller), made during a luncheon meeting with two men who posed as wealthy donors from a Muslim charity. During the meeting, which was recorded by James O’Keefe, a well-known conservative provocateur, Schiller disparaged Republicans as “anti-intellectual” and tea party members as racists and xenophobes. He also suggested that Jews control the nation’s newspapers and that NPR would be better off without its federal subsidy.

  • Do not Weaken Collective Bargaining.

    IMGP3667

Public Employees should not be allowed to retire around 40 years and collect benefits is.

It must be at least 60 years or 58.

Salary scales should be linked to productivity.

Public employees should not enjoy at the cost of private employees and ordinary Joe.

However, taking away collective bargaining Rights will sound the death knell of those in the bottom of the totem pole.

Even with collective bargaining in place , workers’ Rights are being denied.

The same laws must be applied to private sector as well.

Corporate tax must be linked to employee benefits and the pay parity between Public and Private employee may be 15%(maximum)

    Story:

Americans oppose weakening the bargaining rights of public employee unions by a margin of nearly two to one: 60 percent to 33 percent…..

A majority of respondents who have no union members living in their households opposed both cuts in pay or benefits and taking away the collective bargaining rights of public employees….

61 percent of those polled — including just over half of Republicans — said they thought the salaries and benefits of most public employees were either “about right” or “too low” for the work they do…

When it came to one of the most debated, and expensive, benefits that many government workers enjoy but private sector workers do not — the ability to retire early, and begin collecting pension checks — Americans were closely divided. Forty-nine percent said police officers and firefighters should be able to retire and begin receiving pension checks even if they are in their 40s or 50s; 44 percent said they should have to be older. There was a similar divide on whether teachers should be able to retire and draw pensions before they are 65.

The most contentious issue to emerge in the recent labor battles has been the question of collective bargaining rights. A proposal by Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin to weaken them sent Democratic state lawmakers out of state to prevent a vote, flooded the Capitol in Madison with thousands of protesters and sparked a national discussion about unions….

The poll found that an overwhelming 71 percent of Democrats opposed weakening collective bargaining rights. But there was also strong opposition from independents: 62 percent of them said they opposed taking bargaining rights away from public employee unions….

Mississippi is among those states — many in the South — where most government employees do not have the right to collective bargaining, the benefit that has caused a political upheaval in Wisconsin and has become a national flashpoint for those who argue that public employee benefits are too generous.

Those states provide a snapshot of what life is like for government employees who do not have the same union clout that workers in Wisconsin and some other states are desperately trying to retain.
