    • Neem oil is used for preparing cosmetics such as soap, neem shampoo, balms and creams as well as toothpaste.
    • The stem of neem is used as a toothbrush and is called datun.
    • Besides its use in traditional Indian medicine, the neem tree is of great importance for its anti-desertification properties and possibly as a good carbon dioxide sink.[citation needed]
    • Practitioners of traditional Indian medicine recommend that patients with chicken pox sleep on neem leaves.[citation needed]
    • Neem gum is used as a bulking agent and for the preparation of special purpose food.
    • Traditionally, slender neem branches have been chewed to clean one’s teeth. Neem twigs are still collected and sold in markets for this use, and in rural India one often sees youngsters in the streets chewing on neem twigs.
    • Neem blossoms are used in Andhra PradeshTamil Nadu and Karnataka to prepare Ugadi pachhadi. “Bevina hoovina gojju” (a type of curry prepared with neem blossoms) is common in Karnataka throughout the year. Dried blossoms are used when fresh blossoms are not available. In Tamil Nadu, a rasam (veppam poo rasam) made with neem blossoms is a culinary specialty.
    • A mixture of neem flowers and bella (jaggery or unrefined brown sugar) is prepared and offered to friends and relatives, symbolic of sweet and bitter events in the upcoming new year.
    • Cosmetics : Neem is perceived in India as a beauty aid. Powdered leaves are a major component of at least one widely used facial cream. Purified neem oil is also used in nail polish & other cosmetics.

After more than 37,000 dengue cases, including 227 which resulted in death, across India, a grandma’s antidote for the virus seems to be getting scientific endorsement. A herbal concoction — juice of papaya leaf, common neem and hill neem — being given to dengue patients in government hospitals in Tamil Nadu has been found to have anti-viral properties. Tests conducted at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine found that the Siddha preparation brought down symptoms and speeded up the recovery of patients.

Scientists dropped the four strains of the dengue virus on the cell lines (drawn from the gut cells of dengue causing albopictus mosquito) and added the herbal preparation. Normally, the virus would have entered the cells. “After two days, we found the cell-lines were unaffected. The virus was neutralized by the herbal formulation. Further tests showed it blocked the virus from entering the cell. In cells where the virus had already entered, it prevented multiplication,” said King Institute director Dr P Gunasekaran.

It has been going on in fits starts since 1967/68, started by Mari Chenna Reddy, who later dismantled his party to become A minister in the Congress Government, then, a Governor, more as a hatchet man for the Congress.

Chandrasehar Rao of Telengana Rashra Samiti (TRS) was a Minister in Congress Government (or is) and keeps on changing his power calculations.

Chandra Babu Naidu of Telugu Desam is not sure where he wants to go.

Chiranjeevi established(?) Praja Rajyam Party with Telengana as a main plank has merged in the Halo of the Congress to become a Central Minister.

Left. as usual, speaks in many a voice in the state and sings another tune in other States.

Congress, Andhra MLAs are against Telengana,Rayala Seema ambivalent, and even among Telengana Congress MLAs ,the opinion is not unanimous.

Hyderabad Status,Even King Solomon can not adjudicate!

All these Jokers have one point Agenda.

    ‘Gain Power’

When will the people of Andhra Pradesh realise this?

If they want it, they should  have it  at  one go.

Resorting to strikes and fasts a la Anna Hazare Style makes them a laughing-stock.

2.48 pm: Telangana leader P Govardhana Reddy slams the Andhra Pradesh government for halting trains from Telangana to Hyderabad. “The Chief Minister is acting completely prejudiced. They don’t want the dharna to go ahead. No train is running to Hyderabad city. They are not allowing people to come from Telangana to Hyderabad. There is no democracy. It is unfortunate that the Congress government, which respects democracy, is not following its own path,” he says.

  • Winning Elections is not a Proof of Innocence,Jagan Reddy

It has become the habit of politicians on winning the Elections to declare that’people have decided’

Widow of YSR has already stated that Jagan Reddy is innocent and the cases were foisted.

    Jagan Reddy
    Jagan Reddy

We know what  happens in Elections.

Even assuming that the Elections are fair,it does not prove the innocence of the accused.

At times like these, one tends to agree to the view that people who are served charge sheets should not stand for elections.

I am aware that by this yardstick none of our current politicians can stand for Elections!

The only way out is for people to weed out the corrupt, though it sounds utopian now.

    The alternative will be chaos.

“The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) bagged the Nellore Lok Sabha and 14 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, after results of the state bypolls were declared on Friday.

The counting of votes began at 8am on Friday amid tight security in the constituencies spread over 12 districts. About 70 per cent polling was recorded in Nellore and an average 80 per cent in the 18 assembly constituencies in the by-elections held on Tuesday.

The byelections were caused by the resignation of one member of parliament and disqualification of 17 legislators of the Congress party who had switched loyalties to the YSRCP.

Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy of the YSRCP retained Nellore Lok Sabha seat with a massive majority of more than 290,000 votes over his nearest rival and former central minister T Subbarami Reddy of the Congress party.

YSRCP formed by Jaganmohan Reddy, the son of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy — popularly known as YSR, is also heading for victory in Tirupati assembly constituency.

The Tirupati assembly seat fell vacant after the election of actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi to the Rajya Sabha.

The ruling Congress party won two assembly seats and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) one. The main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) drew a blank.

The results mean YSRCP wrested 13 seats won by Congress in 2009 and one seat from Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), which has now merged with Congress. TRS snatched one seat from Congress.

The Congress drew solace from the fact that it escaped a total humiliation by retaining two seats. This will improve the ruling party’s slender majority in the 294-member house. With two seats its tally has now gone up to 154.

TRS managed to scrape through in Parkala, the only assembly seat which went to poll in the Telangana region. In a neck and neck battle, TRS candidate Bhikshapati defeated YSRCP’s Konda Surekha by over 800 seats. Surekha, who was trailing at fourth position till the 14th round of counting, gave a good fight to TRS.

YSRCP received a jolt with the defeat of its top leaders P Subhash Chandra Bose and Konda Surekha. Both were ministers in the YSR cabinet and had switched loyalties to YSRCP. Subhash Chandra Bose lost from Ramachandrapuram constituency in East Godavari district.

Let’s Chant 108 times daily for Baba’s Health, till He recovers.

While a huge number of devotees from India and abroad prayed for his speedy recovery and well-being, the health condition of godman Sri Satya Saibaba continued to be critical on Sunday though the doctors attending on him claimed that he was stable.

“Saibaba is on ventilator. Dialysis was done to assist his kidney function,” said A N Safaya, director, Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences. He said Baba’s respiration had improved since morning. Following serious lung and chest congestion, Saibaba was put on ventilator. “His response to the treatment is satisfactory,” doctors said. The 85-year-old Saibaba was admitted to Satyasai super-speciality hospital here on March 28 following pneumonia and respiratory problems.

With Saibaba sitting over assets worth hundreds of crores, rumours were rife about a succession battle within the portals of Prasanthi Nilayam, the abode of Saibaba, in this small town in the farthest corner of Andhra Pradesh.

  • SriKrishna Committee On Telengana-Time to firm.

Nothing new has been said in the report.

Discussion on this subject shall lead to nowhere.

Telengana people are.rather the politicians have made up their mind and are misleading the people..A mistake was committed earlier in forming linguistic states.Andhra blackmailed and got it,despite Sardar Patel’s objection.

    We are paying for it.

Time to be firm with unified Andhra Pradesh.

It should also be mandated to provide fixed percentage of budget for Telengana, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra.

    This function may be transferred to Central List( only the %  of allocation);

    monitoring by CAG

    Story:

Jan 6: This was just the sort of reaction that the government feared as an aftermath of the Srikrishna Committee report being made public. The nerve centre of the Telangana agitation, the Osmania University has erupted in protests in response to the recommendations given out by the report.

The pro-Telangana protestors engaged in stone pelting and caused bodily harm to police personnel stationed there. The protestors have called for a bandh on Friday in protest. The students turned violent and has burned a city bus making the climate in Hyderabad volatile and sensitive.

The reactions from various parties can be termed “mixed” with the Telugu Rashtra Samithi (TRS) threatening to go on fast soon. The TRS and the BJP has rejected the proposals of the committee outright and said that they still root for a separate Telangana state. The TRS also suggested that a bill be introduced in the Budget session of Parliament even at thecost of a mass-fasting by Congress MLAs and MPs who supports the existence of a separate Telangana state.

One of the first party to come out with opinion on the report was the Praja Rajyam Party that welcomed the recommendation for a United Andhra. The TDP leaders came out with varied reactions and said that it was up to the Centre to come out with a feasible solution rather than “plying with people’s sentiments.”

SUMMARY OF THE REPORT OF COMMITTEE FOR CONSULTATION ON THE SITUATION IN ANDHRA PRADESH

    1.      Shri Justice B. N. Srikrishna report was submitted to the Government on 30.12.2010.  The Terms of Reference of the Committee are enclosed.
    2.      In its 461 pages Report (along with Volume II containing Appendices), the Committee has examined in great detail the following issues:
    (i)                 Developments in Andhra Pradesh – A Historical Background
(ii)               Regional Economic and Equity Analysis
    (iii)             Education and Health
(iv)              Water Resources, irrigation and Power Development
    (v)                Public Employment Issues
(vi)              Issues Relating to Hyderabad Metropolis
    (vii)            Sociological and Cultural Issues
    3.      Based on the analysis of the above parameters the Committee has examined in detail the issues pertaining to current demand for a separate State of Telangana as well as the demand for maintaining the present status of keeping the State united.  After going into all aspects of the situation as well as keeping in view the local, regional and the national perspectives, the Committee has put forward the following solutions/possible options as the best way forward:
    (i) Maintaining Status Quo
The Committee is of the unanimous view that it would not be a practical approach to simply maintain the status quo in respect of the situation.  Some intervention is definitely required and though maintaining the existing status quo is an option, it is favoured the least.
(ii) Bifurcation of the State into Seemandhra and Telangana; with Hyderabad as a Union Territory and the two States developing their own capitals in due course
There is a definite likelihood of serious backlashes in the Telangana region and an overall consideration the Committee found this option was also not practicable.
(iii) Bifurcation of State into Rayala-Telangana and coastal Andhra regions with Hyderabad being an integral part of Rayala-Telangana
This scenario is not likely to be accepted either by the pro-Telangana or by the pro-united Andhra protagonists.  While this option may have economic justification, the Committee believes that this option may not offer a resolution which would be acceptable to people of all three regions.
(iv) Bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into Seemandhra and Telangana with enlarged Hyderabad Metropolis as a separate Union Territory.  This Union Territory will have geographical linkage and contiguity via Nalgonda district in the south-east to district Guntur in coastal Andhra and via Mahboobnagar district in the south to Kurnool district in Rayalaseema
This is likely to receive stiff opposition from Telangana protagonists and it may be difficult to reach a political consensus in making this solution acceptable to all.
    (v) Bifurcation of the State into Telangana and Seemandhra as per existing boundaries with Hyderabad as the capital of Telangana and Seemandhra to have a new capital
The Committee feels that this option has to be given consideration.  The continuing demand for a separate Telangana has some merit and is not entirely unjustified.  In case this option is exercised the apprehensions of the coastal Andhra and the Rayalaseema people and others who were settled in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana with regard to their investments, properties, livelihood and employment would need to be adequately addressed.  Considering all aspects, the Committee felt that while creation of separate Telangana would satisfy a large majority of people from the region, it will also throw up several other serious problems.  Therefore after taking into account of the pros and cons the Committee did not think it to be the most preferred, but the second best option.  Separation is recommended only in case it is unavoidable and if this decision can be reached amicably amongst all the three regions.
(vi) Keeping the State united by simultaneously providing certain definite Constitutional / Statutory measures for socio-economic development and political empowerment of Telangana region – creation of a statutorily empowered Telangana Regional Council
In this option it is proposed to keep the State united and provide Constitutional / Statutory measures to address the core socio-economic concerns about the development of the Telangana region.  This can be done through the establishment of a statutory and empowered Telangana Regional Council with adequate transfer of funds, functions and functionaries.  The Regional Council would provide a legislative consultative mechanism for the subjects to be dealt with by the Council.
The united Andhra option is being suggested for continuing the development momentum of the three regions and keeping in mind the national perspective.  With firm political and administrative management it should be possible to convey conviction to the people that this option would be in the best interest to all and would provide satisfaction to the maximum number of people in the State.  It would also take care of the uncertainty over the future of Hyderabad as a bustling educational, industrial and IT hub/destination.  For management of water and irrigation resources on an equitable basis, a technical body, i.e. Water Management Board and an Irrigation Project Development Corporation in expanded role have been recommended.  The above course of action should meet all the issues raised by Telangana people satisfactorily.
The Committee discussed all aspects of this option and while it acknowledges that there will be certain difficulties in its implementation, on balance, it found it the most workable option in the given circumstances and in the best interest of the social and economic welfare of the people of all the three regions.  The core issue being one of the socio-economic development and good governance, the Committee, keeping the national perspective in mind, is of the considered view that this option stands out as the best way forward.
