Namaskara is a a process, an action beseeching the Blessings, of God,Elders and others.
Places and Namaskaras.
Temples-Thrice.
For Sanyasis-Four.
While under inauspicious occasions, like death,Theetu- One.
Bending only the Head is Ekanga Namskara.
Keeping both the hands above the Head is Thriyanga Namaskara.
Panchanga Namaskara is meant for women.
Here one prostrates in such a way that the two knees and two elbows touching the ground.
( Two Knees, Two Elbows,plus Head -representing Mind and Speech make Five)
The other one is Sashtanga Namaskara , which is highly recommended for Men.
Head, Two Eyes,Two shoulders, , Chest,Two Feet, These must touch the ground.
Other Rules.
1.Namaskaram is not to be performed towards the South, excepting in Aasaucha, inauspicious circumstances.
2.No Namaskaram in front of the Garbha Gruha,Sanctum.
3.Namaskara in Temples before Dwajastamba only.
4.Perform Namaskara before beginning any auspicious activity.
5.While perfoming Namaskara, if the wife the one who is being offered the Namaskara is younger to the one who does the Namaskara,the woman also must be offered the Namaskara while she is standing by her husband.
6.Who are to offered Namaskara.
-Elder by three years, if they have learned the Vedas or they should be at least ten years elder.
This is not applicable to elder brothers, who may be elder by less than three years.
7.If those present are many, the first Namaskara must be for the Learned even though they be younger than the others.
8.In Srardha, if accepted as Brahmana, no age restrictions.
9.No Abhivaadanam for Pitrus
10.Face West during Srardha.
11.Namaskar is not to offered when one ,
Holds Theertha Patra,Flowers, Tharpai,Samit or Food.
No Namaskara while one is lying down, performing Japa or Homa
12.No Namaskaras in the Temple to any body other than God.
