Sachin on Retirement,Negative Comments Excerpts. 1/3

The interview of Sachin Tendulkar on 5 October 2012 in TimesNow by Arnab Goswami was interesting.

For a change Arnab was less abrasive and keen on Sachin opening up .

On Retirement’-  He said he would retire when his heart tells him so and not to oblige anyone.

‘The idea of retirement crossed my mind, I would be lying if  I say It did not’

On persistently asked on retirement Sachin said “‘Yes, I am thirty Nine plus,No body expects me to be like 19-year-old…

The talk is on because  I failed to score in New Zealand Series…

The same happened in 2002..even then thee talks of my retirement .I believe I was a better player after that …

Had I been 19 or 25 no body would be questioning me  for  a few  low scores..

now I am 39, people are bound to talk , they are right and it is their opinion…

growing old is natural..and I am a normal man…yes, my reflexes are slower than what they were and it is natural because I have aged..

No I don’t think I will play the next World Cup.

I had  a Talk with the Don(Don Bradman)-he told me a Batsman changes after 30, yes, I have changed….

I will play till my heart says so and I feel on top of the game…

On Miandad and Imran Khan‘s comment Sachin should retire when he is at his peak , the Master had a fresh, different perspective

‘Why should I retire when I am at my peak?if iam performing well I should contribute more to my Nation’

I will retire when I feel I can not take it any longer.

On the comment by Sunil Gavaskar( On New Zealand Series) that the gap between the Bat and Pad is a cause for concern for a top batsman, Sachin replied.

“He said 100 good things about me ?

Why take some thing a single comment and get worked up?’

‘I was advised by my brother not to read or bother what others say about me, but to concentrate on my game..

That’s what I am doing”

On his reaction to being bowled in the Zealand Match…

If you observe I would have reacted  in 20 different ways on Twenty occasions…

If one conveniently takes one instance and makes a comment, well …..

Yes,  I am hurt when I get out..Does not make a difference how you get out,,out is out..the damage is done…my job is to focus and fix problems ,get better…

On the charge that he was playing for Commercial endorsement..

” If some on has an Agenda and decide to write some thing …what I can do.. irresponsible journalism”

Sachin came out in the interview for what he was,Honest,Straight Forward and Matured.
