  • Make Your Blog Easy To Read For Search Engines

    GoogleBot-byFML

    Goolglebot

Sometimes one has to hunt down for good articles in the Internet, as in Google Search,Bing.

The content may be excellent authentic, yet it does not appear with out very specific search.

While content, post headings,Categories, tags are important, one might as well understand howt he search engines like ,Bing, Google read and reach your site.

As the volume of internet material is very huge, people are not  used.

    Instead,Search Engines use bots*

These are the tools that  locate your site.

    What do they do?

1.The bot will first look into your file names.

The file must be bot  friendly.

This is for people who write on HTML format.

Check with qualified people on this subject for more.

If you are writing on WordPress or blog spot, they will take care.

2.Once this is over, the bot moves onto Meta descriptions.

This is nothing but a Note, preferably in short words, about what the site contain/ is about..

It is recommended that the Meta descriptions do not exceed 60 characters.

However the search engines have recently sopped this step as there was Spamming.

However it is better to have neat and short description of what you plan to say in your site.

3.the bots move to the actual content that is everything that you find between section in your webpage, just be aware that if you are using any frames, tables in your content area then bots might not crawl through them and bots have lower capacity to crawl through javascript and flash over HTML so its better to have a webpage that is designed with HTML and other programs over flash and javascript.

4.The bot , then checks for duplicate content.

If your contents are duplicate to some other contents on the web then there is a chance that your rankings for that particular page will be low or it will be included in the supplementary index.

    Crawling

Crawling is the process by which Googlebot discovers new and updated pages to be added to the Google index.

We use a huge set of computers to fetch (or “crawl”) billions of pages on the web. The program that does the fetching is called Googlebot (also known as a robot, bot, or spider). Googlebot uses an algorithmic process: computer programs determine which sites to crawl, how often, and how many pages to fetch from each site.

Google’s crawl process begins with a list of web page URLs, generated from previous crawl processes, and augmented with Sitemap data provided by webmasters. As Googlebot visits each of these websites it detects links on each page and adds them to its list of pages to crawl. New sites, changes to existing sites, and dead links are noted and used to update the Google index.

Google doesn’t accept payment to crawl a site more frequently, and we keep the search side of our business separate from our revenue-generating AdWords service.

    Indexing

Googlebot processes each of the pages it crawls in order to compile a massive index of all the words it sees and their location on each page. In addition, we process information included in key content tags and attributes, such as Title tags and ALT attributes. Googlebot can process many, but not all, content types. For example, we cannot process the content of some rich media files or dynamic pages.

Internet bots, also known as web robotsWWW robots or simply bots, are software applications that run automated tasks over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone. The largest use of bots is in web spidering, in which an automated script fetches, analyses and files information from web servers at many times the speed of a human. Each server can have a file called robots.txt, containing rules for the spidering of that server that the bot is supposed to obey or be removed.

In addition to their uses outlined above, bots may also be implemented where a response speed faster than that of humans is required (e.g., gaming bots and auction-site robots) or less commonly in situations where the emulation of human activity is required, for example chat bots.

Bots are also being used as organization and content access applications for media delivery. Webot.com is one recent example of utilizing bots to deliver personal media across the web from multiple sources. In this case the bots track content updates on host computers and deliver live streaming access to a browser based logged in user.(wiki)

  • Beware Of Fraudulent Blogs

It is shocking that some one has blogged containing  the image of a Child supposedly suffering form Cancer, while it was not.

    Blogs on Reilly
    Fraudulent Blog.

Such posts .especially on a Subject on Health that too on Cancer involving a child, is sickening.

    Is it because of ‘Hits”

If your writing does not provide information, at least desist from posting incorrect and sensational posts just to attract attention.

Unfortunately many take the information from the Internet seriously with out cross checking.

I tell my children not to Google for serious subjects and be guided by the First ten or twenty results in Google Search.

They might have appeared, not because of the authenticity or correctness of the information but because of tagging and keywords.

However much the Machines try, they can not avoid this fraudulent writing from appearing in top results.

My suggestion is not to find a cure for illnesses  from the Internet, but check with your Physician.

if you are forced to search, check the Trustworthiness of the site with WOT. cross check with Alexa, compare with other results from the search one each from the first three pages of the Search results.

    Story:

For about 10 months, a person claiming to be a mom named Casey Bowman kept a blog called “Remembering Reilly” documenting her son’s battle with leukemia. The dark and detailed posts articulated painful milestones after Reilly’s passing — the moment she had to tell her older son, Langston, the family’s first Thanksgiving without Reilly, and even her own struggle with packing up Reilly’s things.

The boy’s cancer wasn’t the only tragedy that Bowman wrote about. She claimed to have lost another baby to SIDS, and wrote vividly about the miscarriage she had following Reilly’s diagnosis.

Not long after “Remembering Reilly” appeared, a network of other sites popped up that were somehow related to the boy, Gilliam said. There was another blog that seemed to have been written by Bowman while her son was alive, and an updated Facebook page in Reilly’s honor. A “friend” of Reilly’s, a little boy named Noah, also had his own tribute blog. And finally, there was a five-minute YouTube video — a montage made up of several pictures of Reilly (really Jack) with inspirational messages laid on top.

Every single one of these pieces was created by the person behind the hoax.

According to the Columbia Daily Herald, Bowman never asked for donations on Facebook, but posted images of shirts that were supposedly available for purchase as tribute to both boys.

    Hoax Busters

According to The Tennessean, Shelly Jackson, a member of the Warrior Eli Hoax Group — a blog that aims to expose Internet hoaxes — came across “Remembering Reilly” because she had a Google alert set for “chronic myelogenous leukemia,” a diagnosis that her own son shares with Reilly. She realized that the details of Reilly’s diagnosis seemed off, so she looked into the story further. Using a reverse Google image search, Jackson found Sarah Gilliam’s blog, with dozens of matching photos. In an email to Gilliam that she sent to HuffPost, Jackson wrote:

One of my most recent cases involves someone using photos that I believe are of your son Jack claiming he was a leukemia patient named Reilly Bowman. This is particularly close to home for me because the blog was for a child with the same type of leukemia my son has, and I thought a child had died from it when I initially read the blog for “Reilly.”

Gilliam then posted a screenshot of the blog to her Instagram and Facebook accounts asking friends for help, she said. Her husband contacted WordPress, which hosted the blogs, and asked for them to be removed. By that night, all traces of “Remembering Reilly” were gone. The Huffington Post has obtained images from the defunct blog, which are available below.

    Who Is Casey Bowman?

Taryn Harper Wright who updates the Warrior Eli blog writes that that the person behind “Remembering Reilly” is a 17-year-old girl whose name has not been released. She started the hoax after hearing Taylor Swift’s song “Ronan,” a tribute to a little boynamed Ronan Thompson who died of cancer. During the teen’s run as Casey Bowman, she even contacted another mom who had lost her son to cancer and the two became Internet friends, bonded by their similar stories.

  • Blogging Thoughts On Hosts Themes Widgets

I have been receiving emails and in the form of comments, that I write on Blogging, provide some tips.

    Blogging.
    Blogging.

I do not presume to be a good blogger, but I shall put down some points I have learnt over the past four years, things I have learnt by making mistakes.

Points I make here may be used as a starter  and there are good bloggers and more technical savvy people are around, one can seek their help.

Let me reiterate I am a totally ignorant person of Computer and the Internet, let alone the terms like ‘Hosting’ etc.

    Hosting.

I am writing on WordPress platform, that too in WordPress .com .

There are others like Bloggers of Google.

    I do have blogs there.

WordPress,to me, may not look as flashy and rich as Bloggers,I find that very easy to write and the technical problems like texts disappearing, blogs not being visible ,images do not show,Links not displaying properly are very few and far in between.

And in such cases WordPress attends to them immediately with practically no lead time..

If they have a problem, they let me know and once they are set right, they inform me again.

In some cases, they inform me in advance.

Though Bloggers is very appealing and has a wide variety of formatting, to me it seems, that you have to do it by yourself, and that is too dicey for me.

But WordPress does every thing for me, I just concentrate on writing.

And too many options and I am lost as to what to choose in terms of Themes and Design.

    Choosing.com,org,.net.

I am told there are some technical reasons for the difference but I am assured by WordPress is that your readership will not be affected by choosing any of them.

Going professional might help in terms of making the site design more appealing and will help one monetize better.

    That is your choice.

So long as the platform on which you write does not give you headaches in terms of not displaying your posts,  your search results appear on the Internet, your problems are attended to immediately that Hosting should do.

    Be it WordPress or Blogger.

I have not detailed about the other Hosts as it would beyond the scope of this post.

    Themes.

This , again , is a question of personal choice.

If one wants Glitzy you have it..

But the more Links, Widgets, complicated Designs, the loading time becomes slower and that affects your Readership.

Keep the Widgets to the essentials to keep the reader engaged, from his stand point, not your own.

Apart from Meta description, Log in details,Follow, provide Widgets for Categories,Tags, Archives,Recent Posts,Top Posts and anything more is optional.

If your post is Photography oriented check with the Hosts for tips.

Too many Links in a Page or even in Home page affects the Loading time of your site.

The purpose of a Blog is to be read, primarily.

Make sure it is simple and readable, with reasonably standard fonts and size”do not use fancy stylish fonts, they may appeal to you, not necessarily the reader.

Avoid high lighting(actually this point should come under ‘Content‘)  or keep it to the minimum and Caps is strict”.No No”

I started off with DePo Masthead Theme of WordPress(three columns, I like it very much).

Then as my son told me repeatedly that my Blog looked like a scribbling pad, I switched to WordPress Sunspot Theme.

It looked very good to me.

In a week I started receiving suggestions that I change the design to some thing simple and more readable as the color combination was affecting readability.

Now I am using the Theme ‘Able’

I received feedback it is good.

    Browsers.

I have used almost all of them,Google Chrome,Mozilla,Safari et al.

Google Chrome and Mozilla are very good.

Mozilla has very rich features in terms of easy sharing tools and convenience in writing .

But where Google Chrome scores over is that Google Chrome feels light to touch while Mozilla is heavy.(This is the best I can describe this point, I do not what it is.

So I am with Google Chrome for writing and with Mozilla for sharing.

    More posts on Blogging follow.

  • Million Hits Ramanan50 WordPress

The site records its Million Hits on 14 January 2013.

    Ramani's Blog Home Page
    Ramani’s Blog

Started in August 2009,Ramani’s blog reached half a million hits on 17 April 2012 and in ten months has reached a Million.

Two Simple Words W that can not adequately convey my feelings to readers.

    Thank You.

I am informed by leading Bloggers that this mile stone is  remarkable considering the time scale and the areas it covers.

“It is also good to see a single contributor posting with out guest blogs .”

On the other hand , my son says that I write my blogs by commenting on News item which are of interest to others any way, and there is nothing remarkable.

    May be he is right.

But as I said earlier in my blogs under Pages that I started blogging not with the intention of getting Hits alone and that I wanted to be heard on subjects I love.

    What have I learnt?

I am happy to begin with.

I can keep my self engaged and keep my brain active without allowing it to brood over silly things of day-to-day Life.

And yes, it gives me recognition in unexpected places.

Last year when I had been to Chennai I had to go to the State bank Of India to attend to some work to be done there for my sister in Law.

The Counter was busy and there was a long queue.

After about ten minutes, a man came to me and asked me what I wanted  and I explained to him my business,

    He  said

” I think you are ramanan50, I am the Branch manager, please come to my Cabin and I will help you’

I went in and he told me he was a regular reader of my posts and asked me to write on Consumer information.

I was happy that I could be recognized purely on the basis of what  I have written.

Last year I attended the Indi Bloggers Meet at Bangalore .

I was  extended a warm welcome and it became very personal when they knew I was writing in WordPress platform and had attained a reasonable Alexa rank

Let me tell you the average age of the group was 26!

And I was the oldest Guy around.

    Some of them wanted tips.

I told them that I  was not a professional writer but I promised I would give some facts I learnt once I reach One Million Hits.

Here are some things I learnt.

Write what you feel passionately about.

State your views how ever silly it might sound tho you.

Do not write to please by compromising your views,it shows in the long run that you are not true in your opinions.

Write on a subject on which you have a question or doubt.people are interested in learning the answers as much as you do.

Provide sources for your information and acknowledge.

    Appreciate other bloggers when due.

If you find a good post, reblog them.

Tag the posts accurately, it comes with over a period of time.

The procedure I follow is.  (how would I search/Google this  information?)

Write naturally and  do not force key words.

If you write naturally, key words will fall automatically.

Maintain a good text ratio- minimum 15%.

    Check Recommendations from Woorank.

Write the Attributes in for Images.

Always provide an image, video  relevant to the story.

If you have posted earlier on the same subject link it to your new post if it is not identical.

Other wise keep updating your earlier posts.

    Avoid profanity and abusive language.

If you want to write NSFW, make it Private.

Link with Social networking sites like Facebook,Twitter.

Distribute the posts to StumbleUpon, Digg.

Post comments on News papers, participate is discussions /Forums.

Right now I can recall only these.

    Happy Blogging.

WordPress Review of its Bloggers  2012 is released.

The  Format remains the same as it was for the last year.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

    Here’s an excerpt:

About 55,000 tourists visit Liechtenstein every year. This blog was viewed about 520,000 times in 2012. If it were Liechtenstein, it would take about 9 years for that many people to see it. Your blog had more visits than a small country in Europe!
