If the approach of Hinduism to God at a personal level , by treating God as Father, Mother, Sister,Brother …..even as a Lover by Humans, it is more interesting to hear Gods engaged in Human like Relationships among themselves.
This becomes exquisite when Tamil joins hands with Sanskrit and Sanatana Dharma in expressing Piety and Love of God.
We have Lord Shiva calling a Saint , a Lady, Karaikkal Ammayaar as Mother.
During the month of Adi, Aashada, July/August when the Monsoon is in full flow in South India, the River Cauvery is in spate.
This normally occurs on the 18th of Tamil month Adi .
On this day, Lord Renganatha , Sri Rangam visites His sister River Cauvery at Amma Mantapam, Sri Rangam/Tiruchi and offers her His ‘Cheer’-brother’s Gift to Sister!
On this day, the Utsava Murthy, Renganatha arrives at Amma mantapam with His gifts for His sister Cauvery,
Renganatha, Srirangam, Vishnu Offers Gifts River Cauvery.
Turmeric powder, symbol of auspiciousness,
Kumkum,
Bangles,
New Saree.
All these are kept in a Muram(normally used for sifting impurities in Grains), signifying that only the best is offered)
The materials are carried by the Temple elephant.
They are then kept in front of the Renganatha Idol.
Then the Temple elephant shall take the Muram with the materials and leave them in Cauvery by getting into the river!
Tamil Kings were great patronisers of Sanatana Dharma .
Perunchotru Udiyan Neduncherallathan of the Mahabharata times gave away an Agraharam to Brahmins that it would remain theirs so long he sees the smoke from the Homa Fire comes out of their Homes.
Vishnu in Chaturvedi Mangalam.
The other Tamil kings followed suit.
We have one Chaturvedi mangalam ( for the study of the four Vedas) in that name inTamil Nadu.
While we have two known Universities granted by the kings of North India, we have 101 Villages gifted by the Tamil Kings.

Lord Shiva is reported to have attended the Labor of His Devotee and ensured safe delivery.
Shiva was worshipped by the demon ruler Tirisiran, hence Tiruchirappalli, Tirisirapuram etc. Also, since the three peaks here on this hill are occupied by Shiva, Parvati and Vinayaka, the name Tri-Shikharam or Tirisirapuram came into being. Legend has it that Shiva in the guise of a woman (mother) attended to the call of a devotee in labor, hence Matrubhuteswarar.
Tiruchirappalli is hailed as Dakshina Kailasam, as the hill is said to be 1 of the 3 pieces that flew off the Himalayas. in a fierce tussle between Adi Seshan the mythical snake and the Wind God Vayu. The other two are Triconamalee & Sree Kalahasti.
The Temple: This is a fascinating rock cut temple with several inscriptions from the Pallava and Imperial Chola period. This shrine houses Kangaala Moorthy, one of the 64 manifestations of Shiva. The approach to the temple is through a flight of covered stairs. Towards the end of the climb, the Tayumanavar temple is towards the West, and theUchipillayar temple – East.
There is a rock cut Pallava temple – Lalitankura Pallaveswaram in this hill temple complex. with several inscriptions here attributed to Mahendravarma Pallavan. In addition the Cholas, the Vijayanagar rulers and the Nayaks of Madurai have made extensive contributions here. The two storeyed Taayumaanavar temple, built on (in) a hill is a masterpiece of construction. The Chittira Mandapam houses a granite chain with nine loops.
Festivals: Six worship services are offered each day here. This well endowed temple celebrates the annual Bhrammotsavam in Chittirai. Aadi Pooram and the float festival in Panguni are also of significance here.
Located an hour away by Road from Tiruchirapalli. Siruvachur MadhuraKaliamman, is a powerful Deity, specially for alleviating the sufferings related mind and Black Magic induced ailments.
Legend has it that Adi Sankara, felt thirsty when he visited this place and Madura Kali provided a Spring to quench his thirst.
The Temple is open only on Mondays and Fridays between 8am to 8pm.
‘Madura Kaliamman Temple is an important temple for mother Goddess in Trichy and Perambalur regions in South India. The temple is open only on every Mondays and Thursdays. It is said to be the Kula Devta (family deity) of Chankarendra Saraswati Swamigal – famously called as Kanchi Periyavar or Kanchi Shankaracharya….
Madurakaliamman, Siruvachur.
As per one legend, Kannagi of Silappadikaram calmed herself in this site after burning Madurai city. As per another legend, Chelli Amman was the original deity of the place. However, she was controlled by a tantric. Madura Kaliamman destroyed the tantric and rescued Chelli Amman. Chelli Amman offered this site to Kali and moved to a nearby hill.
It is believed that the saint Sadasiva Brahmendra constructed the temple. As per another belief, Adi Shankaracharya felt thirsty when he visited the place; the Goddess offered him water in the form of a spring; later she gave darshan to him and appeared in the form of Madra Kaliamman idol…
It is believed that the temple is very old (though not the current structure) and it was even renovated by Kulothunga Chola….
On the Chennai-Trichy highway (NH45), the temple is located around 270 kms from Chennai (7 kilometers after Peramabalur) and around 50 kms from Trichy. While travelling from Chennai to Trichy, the temple’s entrance Arch is located on the right side, on the main road, after the Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College. From the arch, the temple is at a distance of around 2 kms.
On Mondays and Fridays, devotees can hire auto rickshaws available near Arch to reach the temple. There are few mini buses from the Arch to the temple, but the frequency is less.
By road, all the buses between Trichy and Perambalur will stop at the Siruvachur arch. The Permabalur-bound buses start from Chathiram bus stand in Trichy, which is located near the Rockfort temple (Mainguard Gate).(Chathiram Bus Stand)
Recently I was told to visit an Ayappa temple run By Ayyappa Sangam in Tiruchi.
I have seen some of the Ayyappa temples in places other than Sabarimala.
