  • Shankaracharya Intellectual Giant Complete Works

Whether  Adi Shankaracharya is the incarnation of Lord Shiva is point, better left alone.

There are some who dispute it.

However what one can not dare to deny, is the fact that He was an intellectual Giant ..

Shankaracharya was engaged in an argument with Buddhists on Reality  and the nature of the world.

The main pivot of Shankaracharya’s  Philosophy rests on His assertion that Permanence is Real and Change is Illusory.

For the Buddhists, Change alone is permanent and there is no Permanence.

Totally diametrically opposite  point of views.

    Buddhists argue with Shankaracharya thus.

    Take a Candle.

It lights up the area surrounding it.

It releases Energy, and loses Energy every micro second.

So when you look at the candle for the second time ,it is not the same as it was as it has expended energy, has changed its size.

In the case of Man, Man changes.

Man goes through the various Ages-Childhood,Youth, Old Age.

So Man does not remain the same.

Every thing changes and nothing is Permanent.

    Shankaracharya replies,

    True,

But , if , as you declare, every thing changes and does not remain the same, how is it that you identify the Object as such?

Yes, The candle has changed, Changes, Man changes.

If only Changes are there, how is that we recognize them as such?

Because there is Something by referring to which you recognize Objects despite the Changes.

The permanent Reality is Brahman and the Changes are Illusory.

    What an argument?

Look at list of works of Shakaracharya whci he completed  in 32 years of His Life.

Vedanta Desika (Swami DesikanSwami Vedanta DesikanThoopul Nigamaantha Desikan) (1269–1370) was a Sri VaishnavaGuru. He was a poetdevoteephilosopher and master-teacher. He was the disciple of Swamy Sri Kidambi Appullar alias Sri Aathreya Ramanujachariar who comes in the lineage starting from Sri Ramanuja with Sri Thirukurugai Piran Pillan alias Sri Kurugesar,Sri Kidambi Aachan, Sri Aathreya Ramanujar, Sri Aathreya Rangarajachariar and many in the order. He is considered as an Avatar(incarnation) of the divine bell of Lord Venkateswara of Tirumalai by Sri Vaishavites.

    Vidyaranya
    Swami Vidyaranya

    Vidyaranya.

It was while Sri Vidyaranya was doing tapas at Matanga hill that the two warrior brothers, Harihara and Bukka, sons of Sangama, approached him. Directed by a dream, they sought his blessings and guidance. Earlier, these two brothers had been taken prisoner and led to Delhi. It is believed they were under compulsion to embrace Islam. But the Delhi ruler recognising their valour sent them back to the south. They were sent back as the heads of an army to contain the rebellions brewing in the Deccan.

Seizing this opportunity, the two brothers asserted their independence. With the guidance and blessings of Sri Vidyaranya, they established their own independent kingdom with its capital on the left bank of Tungabhadra river. Following the sage’s counsel, they shifted their capital to the right bank, naming it Vidyanagara, as a mark of respect and gratitude to the sage, whom they regarded as their Guru, God and saviour. The city, which came to be popularly known as Vijayanagara or City of Victory was planned in accordance with the directions of sage Vidyaranya in the form of a Sri Chakra

Shankaracharya, was/is the greatest Adavaitin and the Greatest Intellect Humanity has seen.

Swami Vedanta Desikan, Great Exponent and Visishtavaita, master of Sanskrit prose and

Vidyaranya, the brain behind the establishment of Vijaya Nagara Empire.

Laksmi appeared before Shankaracharya after he beseeched her to come to the help of a poor woman,Kanakahra Sthavam.

    Mahalakshmi appeared thrice for Vidyaranya.

Vidyaranya wanted to establish an Empire with Harihara and Bukka.

Being a poor Brahmin he did not have the wealth to do it.

    He prayed Lakshmi.

When she appeared in person, he was so overwhelmed, he did not ask Her for anything.

This happened for the second time.

Still he did not ask  Her.

The third time when She appeared,, on being asked by Her why he called Her, he remembered He prayed Her for Wealth.

He immediately felt ashamed and told Her,

“Mother , I invoked You for Wealth to establish an Empire.

I now realize that it is a mistake.

For the Mother knows what the child needs.

I am sorry I thought of Wealth, when You are There.

Vijayanagara Empire was established successfully by Her Grace.

On Desika I had a reference but seems to have misplaced it.

Vidyaranya’s most famous works are Pārāśara-Mādhavīya and the Sarva-darśana-saṅ̇graha (Compendium of Speculations), a compendium of all the known Indian schools of philosophy. To quote Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the Sarvadarśanasaṅ̇graha “sketches sixteen systems of thought so as to exhibit a gradually ascending series, culminating in the Advaita Vedanta (or non-dualism).” The sixteen systems of philosophy expounded by him are:[2]

    1. Cārvāka
    2. Buddhism

  • Quantum Indian Philosophy One Sloka Shankara

The Universe, according to Modern Astrophysics contains 4% of Matter and 96% of Antimatter.

    Meenakshi Amman , Madurai
    Devi Meenakshi

(Atoms of Matter consists of, in the Atom, Electron with -ve Charge, Proton +Charge, while in Atoms Electrons have +ve charge and protons -ve Charge)

The Purusha Sukta says the Manifested, or Matter, as equivalent to Ten Inches, if the Universe is taken, as a Human Being.

‘Sa Bhoomim Viswatho Vruthvaa Athyathishta Dasaangulam”

Prakriti and Purusha are the two principles of Nature one is Positive  and another Negative, in terms of configuration of Atoms.

Prakriti is Inert while Purusha is Dynamic.

    Together  they form the world.

This is one aspect of explaining Ardhanaareswara.

Together, they, Siva and Sakthi  form the world.

    Shankaracharya Painting
    Adi Shankaracharya.

“Siva Vaama Bhaaga Nilayam’  Shankaracharya explains it this way in the Meenakshi Pnacha Ratnam.

2.If we want to communicate to Aliens and if they want to contact us the most likely medium is Sound.

Other modes like mathematics, high intensity light, one is  not sure whether they could be understood by the other.

One can always understand the primordial Sound.

This idea seems to have struck Spielberg in his movie,’Close encounters of the Third Kind

In the film , the Aliens and the earthlings communicate with each other through  sound, which sounds OM, listen to the Sound in the Film intently.

So the Sabda Pramana, that is Sound is among the highest rated among the Five elements, out of which the other elements evolved.

What is the most natural sound of the world, excepting the one that resonates in Space?

It is the buzzing of the Bees.

    How does it sound?

    ‘Hreem’

This is the Moola Akshara of Devi.

    Sankaracharya describes it as,

    “Hreenkaara Manrtojvalaam’

‘You are the One as the Hreenkaara and shine with effulgence.

It is the buzzing of the Bees that is primordial in the world that makes an Akshara.

3.The Universe, according to Quantum, exists at different levels and the Master Controller of the entire Universe is a tiny particle.

(read my post the Universe is Master computer  controlled)

How does Shankaracharya explain this point”

    ‘Srichakraangitha Bindhu madhya Vasatheem’

The One who resides in the midst of Bindhu( very minute particle) which is in the Srichakra.

4.And what is Space and how does one know directions in Space?

The answer , according to Quantum , is that the Space is everywhere yet we do not know whether it is some where.

So it has to be there , we are sore if it is there, yet . it is to point Everywhere.

Look at the Sri Chakra’s Triangles, they point everywhere but collectively where?

    ‘Srichakra…….Vasathhem’

5.The Universe in which we live is one among the many verses, they seem to be infinite in number(both in Matter and Antimatter)

And what we see is only a perspective or put it simply we see what we want to see or perceive.

    This, from Quantum!

Read my posts We see what we want to see.

And our perspective even alters what we perceive.

So in short, in the words of Shakespeare, ‘All the World is a Stage’

    Shankaracharya puts it.

    Srimad Sabha Nayakeem’

The One who oversees the Drama , that is Universes.

6.And why does the Universe we perceive look Real though it is Unreal?

Because you are bewitched by ignorance,

Shankara calls it ,,because of ‘JaganMohineem’ the attribute of Devi to bewitch to see things as they are not, when you are not spiritually developed.

He concludes the sloka with the adjectives for Devi as ,

    Srimad Shanmugha Vigna Raaja Jananeem’

One who gave birth to Subramanya , with six aspects and Ganesha, the One who removes obstacles.

    Why these objectives ?

He could have used a Siva, he being Her equal partner.

But The ignorance is the impediment for Realization and Ganesha removes it.

And Subramanya , in His six aspects, is the Best among those who realized Brahman, who taught His father, Shiva, the Pranava,.

In Sanskrit if you add ‘Su’ as an affix , it indicates the best,

    He is Su-Brahmanya, Subramanya.

Now enjoy the gret Meenakshi Pancharatna , where Adi Shanjkaracharya talks of Quantum and Indian Philosophy at the same time.

  • Where Shankaracharya Composed Ganesa Pancharatna

Adi Shankaracharya  systematize the Hindu worship by establishing Six Systems of Worship.

Please read my post Six Systems by Shankaracharya.

He gave the primary importance to Ganapathya, tne Worship of Lord Ganesh.

The Composition Ganesha Pancharatnam is very potent and is well-known.

    Where did Shankaracharya compose this?

    Aaiyrathu Enn Vinayakar,Arumugamangalam
    Aaiyrathu Enn Vinayakar

Legend has it that he composed it in Aaiyirathu Enn Vinayaka Temple, Thoothukudi/Tuticorin District before proceeding to Trichendur for composing the Subramanya Bhujangam.

As a rule, all begin their routines, domestic or otherwise offering the first prayer to Lord Vinayaka.  People pray for removal of obstacles in wedding efforts, progress in education, for early settlements in litigation pending in courts, frequent repairs in vehicles leading to accidents.  People pray to Aayirathu Enn Vinayaka before starting any enterprise for auspicious results.

During the fourth century, a king Somara Vallaban brought 1008 Brahmins from the Narmada River region to conduct a Yajna.  Yet their number was short by one.  Lord Vinayaka appeared there in the guise of a Brahmin and helped completing the Yajna in order.  Hence, the Vinayaka is named Aayirathu Enn Vinayaka – 1008th Vinayaka.  It is said that Vinayaka stayed in the Arumugamangalam village itself offered to him as Dakshina.

  • Temple Where The Devi’s Groin Fell Sankari Devi Tricomalee

There are different versions of the Sakti Peetas.

Please read my  Post’Is kanchi Kamakshia Satkti Peeta?’

I plan to post  first on Shankaracharya version of the 18 Peetas.

One Shakti Peeta, according to Adi Shankaracharya, is  in Tricomalee or Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

The part of Sati Devi which fell on this place is the groin.

“The temple of Shankari Devi supposed to be in Sri Lanka at Trimkomali.

At present there is no temple available at this place and it is said that the temple was destroyed by Portugese people between 16th to 17th century.
As per the priest’s account, the Portuguese who invaded the island in the 17th century completely cannon balled from their ship and demolished the cliff top Devi temple. In its site stands a lone pillar, as a mute spectator.
The temple of Sankari devi which was exactly on the peak of a hill was ruined by foreign invaders.

However, it is believed that the idol of amma has been preserved in the present temple which is by the side of the place where the idol originally used to be…

The temple is said to be in the famed town of Trincomalee on the eastern coast.
The Temple of Sri Shankari Devi according to the priest’s in Trincomalee, say that the Portuguese who invaded the island in the 17th century completely cannon balled from their ship and demolished the cliff top Devi temple. In its site stands a lone pillar, as a mute spectator.
There is also a more famous Kali temple in the heart of the town to which devotees can make a visit en-route from the Shankari Temple.”

    Sankari Tricomalle

The present Shiva temple which is quite well known locally than the Shankari Temple was a recent construction.

The Shiva is called as TRIKONESHVARA (Probably because it is in Trincomalee which is truly TRI CONA MALAI- meaning triangle-shaped hill).

There is a small Devi Shrine built adjacent the Shiva temple.

The famed Bilva tree which is perched right on the edge of the hill some hundred meters above the Indian ocean.

It is an exhilarating and spectacular sight to behold. All round, silence reflects which is needed most in this war-torn nation rightfully called as a paradise.
