  • Tamil Sangam Dates 4140 to 14,000 BC

Tamil Sangam Dates 4140 to 14,000 BC

Dates assigned to Events, persona and literature of India are undergoing a thorough overall ,thanks to new findings in Archaeology Anthropological research, new advanced technics and simulated software of ancient events.

The dates of the following have been pushed back and Indian Ithihasas,Ramayana and Mahabharatha have been found to be recorded History.

    Rig Veda ,by 50,000 years,

    Ramayana placed at 5114 BC,

    Mahabharatha, at 3000 BC.

    * for the anomalies of dates in Ramayana, which the Puranas say had happened about a million years ago and Mahabharatha did happen thousands of years later to Ramayana,Ramayana had taken place in Tretha Yuga and Mahabharatha during Dwapara Yuga, please check my article Rama’s Death precedes Krishna’s by 200 years?

And many more arbitrarily assigned dates have been revised.

Now to another ancient Culture and Language ofcIndia,Tamil.

Tamils have a hoary past and they have been referred to in the Vedas,Puranas ,Ramayana and Mahabharatha.

They were a powerful maritime power and references are made by Ancient Greek Historians including Periplus and Roman records the presence of Tamils in Roman Empire and the Romans had a colony of their own in Musiri,Tamil Nadu.

The ancient grammar book available,Tholkappiyam speaks of land extending up to 7000 miles from Kanya Kumari to The South, which is somewhere near New Zealand.

Sage Agastya, the co founder of Tamil along with Lord Shiva is found in New Zealand and Micronesia.

Shiva, the Primary Deity of the Tamils is worshipped by the Aborigines of Australia.

Sage Agastya’s date is confirmed by Astronomy,Star Canopus.

Tamil records speak of Three Conclaves of Poets in Tami Land.

    These were called Tamizh Sangam..

Nakkīrar describes three “Sangams” (caṅkam) spanning thousands of years. The first Sangam (mutaṟcaṅkam)mudharchangam is described as having been held at “the Madurai which was submerged by the sea”, lasted a total of 4400 years, and had 549 members, which supposedly included some gods of the Hindu pantheon such as SivaKubera and Murugan. A total of 4449 poets are described as having composed songs for this Sangam. There were 89 Pandiya kings starting from Kaysina valudi to Kadungon were decedents and rulers of that period..The grammar followed in the first sangam was agattiyam. The poems composed were Paripaadal, mudunarai, mudukurugu, kalariyavirai. If credence is given to the commentary of Irayanar Ahapporul, the beginning of sangam should be placed somewhere in 9000 BC.’

Silappadikaram, one of the Five Epics ,which came later to Sangam period is dated at 1 AD.

Recent excavations of Poompuhar, which was called Kaverippoompattinam date pushes it back by 11,000 years.

The date of Poompuhar artifact was arrived at and verified by  Glenn Milne Sea Level changes.

The place is called Poompuhar. It lies on southeast India’s Coromandel coast facing the Bay of Bengal between modern Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Its immediate offshore area has been the subject of marine archaeological investigations by India’s National Institute of Oceanography since the 1980’s — and numerous non-controversial finds of man-made structures dated between the third century AD and the third century BC have been made in the “inter-tidal zone” close to shore at depths down to 6 feet (approximately 2 metres).

These finds of structures in shallow water (some so shallow that they are exposed at low tide) have been quite widely written-up in the archaeological literature. But for some reason other discoveries that the NIO has made in deeper water off Poompuhar have attracted no attention at all. Most notably these other discoveries include a second completely separate group of structures fully three miles from the Poompuhar shore in water that is more than 70 feet (23 metres) deep. The lack of interest is surprising because to anyone with even minimal knowledge of post-glacial sea-level rise their depth of submergence is – or should be – highly anomalous. Indeed according to Glenn Milne’s sea-level data the land on which these structures were built last stood above water at the end of the Ice Age more than 11,000 years ago.

Is it a coincidence that there are ancient Tamil flood myths that speak of a great kingdom that once existed in this area called Kumari Kandam that was swallowed up by the sea? Amazingly the myths put a date of 11,600 years ago on these events — the same timeframe given by Plato for the end of Atlantis in another ocean.

Like the cities in the Gulf of Cambay the underwater structures three miles offshore of Poompuhar were first identified by an instrument called sidescan sonar that profiles the seabed. One structure in particular was singled out for investigation and was explored by divers from India’s National Institute of Oceanography in 1991 and 1993. Although they were not at that time aware of the implications of its depth of submergence — i.e. that it is at least 11,500 years old — the 1991 study confirms that it is man-made and describes it as:

a horse-shoe-shaped object, its height being one to two metres. A few stone blocks were found in the one-metre wide arm. The distance between the two arms in 20 metres. Whether the object is a shrine or some other man-made structure now at 23 metres [70 feet] depth remains to be examined in the next field season.

The 1993 study refines the measurements:

The structure of U-shape was located at a water depth of 23 metres which is about 5 kilometres off shore. The total peripheral length of the object is 85 metres while the distance between the two arms is 13 metres and the maximum height is 2 metres Divers observed growth of thick marine organism on the structure, but in some sections a few courses of masonry were noted.

Graham Hancock is an advocate of this theory and I subscribe to this as this has more science to back it up.

The Glenn Milne Theory of Sea Level Change places a landmass Sundaland.

Sundaland was a cluster of islands in South consisted of Malay peninsula, Java, Sumatra, Borneo and other surrounding areas.’

So it is logical to arrive at the conclusion that the Silappadikaram Town was in existence around 11000 CE and for a rich language as Tamil to develop, from a dialect, colloquial form and then to literary ,it requires  minimum  5000 Years.

And Tamil quotes Ithihasas ,Ramayana and Mahabharata and the Vedas.

That should place these Ithihasas earlier .

Hence based on this evidence available now, Tamil should be at least 16000 years old and the Sanskrit Puranas earlier.

Please read my Post Million Year Old Tamil quotes Vedas and they quote Tamil.

But we are assigning Tamil Sangam at 5 BC and Rig veda at 5000 BC!’

    https://ramanisblog.in/2015/03/02/poompuhar-find-sets-tamilhinduism-by-atleast-20000-years/

Silappadikaram and its sister Epic Manimekalai speaks of the Tsunami that devoured the Tamil land.

And this is the Third Tsunami, the earlier two having swallowed Tamil land .

Assuming ,at the most conservative level ,that the Tsunami struck immediately before Silappadikaram period, which is unlikely as to reconstruct the Land and take the language to classical level of Silappadikaram would have required at least five thousand years,we can assign the last Tsunami at 14,000 BC.

And taking the account of Tamil classics for the duration of each Sangam at ( there is novreason to doubt this as their version about Third Tsunami is validated,

‘First Sangam.-It was said to be located in Then Madurai (now part of Madurai) under the patronage of 89 Pandya kings, during this period. It is said to have lasted for 4,440 years,

Second Sangam-The second Sangam was convened in Kapatapuram. This Sangam lasted for 3700 years and had 59 members, with 3700 poets participating. There were 59 Pandiya kings starting from Vendercceliyan to Mudattirumaran were decedents and rulers of that period. This city was also submerged in sea. Ramayana and Arthashastra of Kautalya corroborates the existence of a city named Kavatapuram.

Third Sangam-The Third Sangam (Tamil: மூன்றாம் சங்கம், Moondram Sangam) was a historical assembly and the last of the three Tamil Sangams. Established under the aegis of 49 Pandyan kings, it ran for 1850 years, ending around the time that Christianity emerged’

    Third Sangam 12,250 to 14000 ( 14000-1850)

    Second Sangam 8550 to 12,250 ( 12,250-3700) and

Carbon dating dating is yet to be carried out.

Archaeologists  opine that it could date back to another 10,000 years back.

Burnt Bricks used to Build houses, Chess Pieces, Micro Pearls, intricate potteries  were found.

    Archaeological report.

At Keezhadi, a village not far from the southern bank of the Vaigai river near Madurai, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) is undertaking a massive excavation, possibly its biggest to date in Tamil Nadu. Already 42 trenches have been dug in two locations in a coconut grove at a place called Pallichandai Thidal in the village. K. Amarnath Ramakrishna, Superintending Archaeologist, ASI’s Excavation Branch VI, Bengaluru, is leading the excavation, which has thrown up quite a few surprises and is attracting many visitors, among them schoolchildren and tourists. Amarnath takes time off to explain to visitors the significance of the finds. One such is a “deep terracotta ring well with 13 rings” that promises to go down further. “Here we have a ring well in association with a structure built of big-sized bricks. This is a peculiarity,” he tells a few visiting archaeology buffs. He contrasts this with the ring well excavated at Vasavasamudram near Kalpakkam (near Chennai), which stood independent of any other structure. The same is the case at Arikkamedu near Puducherry, he adds.

The structure associated with the well is made of burnt bricks, and the floor is also paved with big bricks. In fact, trench after trench, each five metres long and five metres wide and several metres deep, has structures made of burnt bricks. No mud bricks have been used. One trench features two brick walls, looking imposing and meeting each other. One of the walls is ten bricks thick and set in mud mortar. Each brick is 36 cm long, 24 cm wide and 6 cm thick. Another trench features a rectangular brick structure that looks like an antechamber. Large-sized hand-made grooved tiles have also been found in this trench, suggesting that the structure may have had a tiled roof. One trench has a channel made of bricks, perhaps for releasing water. In most of the trenches, below a certain level, layers of river sand have been found, signalling the existence of paleochannels in the area many centuries ago. There are big storage jars, pots with spouts, twin pots, big decorated pots, black and red pottery, white-painted black ware, and so on, jutting out of the trench walls.

“It is a fish,” exclaimed one of the children. Vadivel took out artefact after artefact and held them up for the children to see —pearl micro-beads, a big quartz bead with a superb engraving, ivory dices, terracotta human figurines, a copper rod for painting eyelashes, bangles made of conch shells, potsherds with Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions, arretine ware, and shining white-painted black pottery. At the end of it, the children appeared mesmerised. “Were all these that were shown now found here?” asked one of them.

In fact, all these and more found here point to this being a Sangam Age site. “This is definitely a Tamil Sangam Age site…. It was a habitation site. It was purely a Sangam Age site,” said Amarnath Ramakrishna. What is “impressive” is the discovery of big brick structures in the trenches. “We have got good structures. We have found big-sized walls.” Similar brick structures were found at Arikkamedu, Kancheepuram, Uraiyur, Kaveripoompattinam and Azhagankulam. “On the basis of a comparative study of Keezhadi with these sites and the availability of black and red ware at stratigraphically lower levels, we can say that this site belongs to the 3rd century BCE. This is tentative. We have not done carbon-dating yet,” the Director of Excavation said. The Sangam Age of the Early Historic period is datable from circa 3rd century BCE to 3rd century C.E. Keezhadi derives its importance from its proximity to Madurai, the capital city of the Pandya dynasty. The Pandya kings were known for their patronage in convening assemblies or gatherings, called Sangam, at Madurai, where Tamil literature was composed and compiled…

had on them the Tamil-Brahmi script. The trenches also yielded black and red ware, Roman arretine ware, rouletted ware, hundreds of beads made of semi-precious stones, ivory dices, iron spearheads and so on. “We have got a rich haul of antiquities. They show the nature of the habitation site of the Tamil Sangam Age and provide evidence about the culture that existed then,” said Vedachalam, who retired as Senior Epigraphist, Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department.

    K. Rajan, Professor of History, Pondicherry University, who visited Keezhadi, also asserted that it was an Early Historic site that had many urban components. “It was one of the urban centres on the Vaigai river basin. It was located between the capital city of Madurai and the port city of Azhagankulam of the Pandya country,” he said. Its urban components were indicated by its civic amenities, external trade, existence of a multi-ethnic society, a communication system, use of luxury items, occurrence of expensive pottery, and so on. The discovery of carnelian beads indicated Keezhadi’s external trade links—the carnelian stone came from Gujarat. Luxury items such as pearl micro-beads and ivory dices showed that the Early Historic residents of Keezhadi had surplus wealth. Potsherds with Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions showed the prevalence of a communication system. While Brahmi was the script used, the language used was both Tamil and Prakrit. The name “Tissa” inscribed in Brahmi script on a potsherd belonged to the Prakrit language. Rajan was sure that the Prakrit name signalled that Keezhadi had maritime trade with Sri Lanka.

The first season of excavation began on March 2, 2015, and ended in September. Forty-two trenches were dug and, astonishingly, many of them yielded structures made of large-sized bricks that typically belong to the Early Historic period. For instance, a trench dug in the highest point of the mound yielded a massive brick wall. They were all burnt bricks. Another trench yielded a pot with a conical bottom, whose occurrence was rare. Yet another trench yielded a small room built of bricks, whose floor had a spread of river sand. This led to a debate on whether it was a dry toilet. The centre of the mound revealed a lot of structural activity. Small brick-built rooms threw up plenty of pots.

A bonanza of artefacts was found in almost every trench. What stood out was a big quartz bead with a superbly made engraving. “We can say with confirmation that it was made about 2,200 years ago,” Amarnath Ramakrishna said. “It was found at a depth of 180 cm,” he added. A perforated shallow dish was found as well. “This is a rarity in Tamil Nadu,” he said. Prized discoveries included gleaming pearl micro-beads and hundreds of beads made of semi-precious stones such as carnelian, agate, lapis lazuli and quartz. Glass beads were also found. From the surface of the mound, Vedachalam picked up a human terracotta figurine.

Other artefacts found in the trenches included shell bangles with decorations, ivory dice incised with concentric circles, terracotta gamesmen and spindle-whorls with iron roads (indicating the existence of a textile industry).

Amarnath Ramakrishna said: “The artefacts are a confirmation that Keezhadi was a trade centre and that a big town existed there [during the Early Historic period]. Stratigraphically, in the lower levels, we get all the material such as arretine ware, rouletted ware and white-painted black ware which are associated with the Early Historic period. A wealthy, cultured society must have lived there. Stratigraphically, we have found a lot of deposits which offer good evidence to correlate Madurai with the Sangam Age. This site definitely gives a clue to the date of the Sangam Age.”

  • Kumarikandam, Lemuria Are Not the Same

While one reads about the lost continents of Lemuria and Kumarikandam, one is likely to assume that both are the same.

This is due to the hazy impression one gets about the Tsunami that was the cause for the massive upheaval in the south of the Vindhyas, the Dravida Desa.

Geographical Position of Mu.jpg Geographical Position of Mu.

Lemuria, Map.jpg hypothetical sketch of the monophyletic origin and extension of the twelve races of Man from Lemuria over Earth.” From Haeckel, Natürliche Schöpfungsgeschichte, Plate XV. Note the differences in the German version (1868) without Lemuria and the English version (1876) with Lemuria, after 1870 Haeckel adopted and promoted the idea of a sunken continent in the Indian Ocean.

There  (three?) were two Tsunamis mentioned in the Tamil Classics, Silappadikaram, Manimeghalai and Jivaka Chintamani.

Since there were at least two references to Tsunamis and four references to earth quakes in Sangam Tamil and post Sangam Tamil verses we can be sure of some natural catastrophes. The reason for the doubts about their existence came from the big number of kings, big number of poets they sponsored and the years the kings ruled. If we take those years as exaggerated or coded language then we can reconcile the contradictions.

Adirakku Nallar, the commentator of Tamil epic Cilappatikaram had given the geography of the Tamil Land that was devoured by the sea. He wrote that there were seven big areas and each one was divided into seven smaller areas. Seven is a sacred number for Hindus and this type of land division is already in Hindu mythologies. When the first Tamil Sangam at South Madurai went into the sea ,they moved south and established the second academy at Kapatapuram. When that was also devoured by the sea they moved further south and established the third Tamil Sangam in modern Madurai. During the second academy Tolkappiyam was written by Tolkappiyar. At present Tolkappiyam  is the oldest available Tamil work, which is grammar book. Scholars date it to first century BC or AD. Some kings and poets who were part of First (Murinjiyur Mudinagarayar) and Second Sangam wrote a few poems which are included in Sangam corpus of Tamil literature ( Panamparar, Kakkaipatiniyar).

Any student of linguistics will easily find out that their poems were not very old as claimed by the commentator. The language of Tolkappiyam and verses by Muda Thirumaran (King during second Tamil Sangam) and Murinjiyur Mudinagarayar (First Tamil Sangam)betray their age. The language was not very different from other Sangam poems. If we apply the thumb rule followed by Max Muller to date the Vedic literature (two hundred years for language changes) both Tolkappiyam and other Sangam works will be grouped under the same period. Tolkappiyar himself indirectly says that he compiled whatever materials available at that time. He adds in hundreds of places the journalist’s cliché “they say”, “it is said that”. This makes it clear that he was not the one who wrote every bit of the book, but it was only a compilation. If we go by his language we can’t put him back any further than first century. His colleague Panamparar wrote the introduction (prefatory verse) for his treatise. His language was not archaic either.

The commentator of “Iraiynar Agapporul” gives a full account of the three Tamil Sangams .In the background of this linguistic evidence and in the absence of any historical proof, the claim that the  First Tamil Sangam existed for 4400 years under  89 kings and 4449 poets composed poems wont command any credibility. It is the same story about Second Tamil Sangam which existed for 3750 years  under  59 kings and 3700 poets. The third Tamil Sangam existed for 1850 years.’….

I am of the opinion that the dates mentioned around 1 Ad or even 5000 BC may not be correct, considering the references one finds about the Tamils in the Vedas,  when Rig-Veda has been dated around 5000 years ago, the date of Tamils should have been pushed earlier.

Based on the evidence available about the two Tsunamis, it is quite probable, the break of the South, Tamil Nadu could have been in two phases.

One when Lemuria got disengaged from the Indian Mass.

    The other, Kumarikandam.

    Considering the facts that,

    Manu Precede Daksha,

This Manu, of Kali Yuga, Satyavrata Manu, migrated from the South to Ayodhya,

Manu’s are for Manvantaras and hence precede the known history,

Shiva worship was present in the South even before the Tsunamis,

The relics of Shiva Ganesha and Murugan are found in the Middle east, Europe, Americas, Russia and Africa,

Vishnu relics are found in New Zealand and Australia,

it is probable that these two landmasses  were separated b considerable length of Time.

I am looking into which one was submerged earlier b referring ti archeological, Astronomical and linguistic evidence from various cultures from the East and West of the Present India.

Lemuria or Mu is the name of a hypothetical continent that allegedly existed in one of Earth’s oceans, but disappeared at the dawn of human history. The concept and the name were proposed by 19th century traveler and writer Augustus Le Plongeon, (1825-1908), who claimed that several ancient civilizations, such as those of Egypt and Mesoamerica, were created by refugees from Mu – which he located in the Atlantic Ocean. Egypt was founded by Queen Moo, a refugee from the land’s demise. Other refugees supposedly fled to Central America and became the Mayans.

After his investigations of the Maya ruins in Yucatan, Le Plongeon claimed that he had translated ancient Mayan writings, which supposedly showed that the Maya of Yucatan were older than the civilizations of Greece and Egypt, and additionally told the story of an even older continent. Le Plongeon actually got the name “Mu” from Charles Etienne Brasseur de Bourbourg who in 1864 mistranslated what was then called the Troano Codex using the de Landa alphabet. That was wrong as recent translations of the Troano Codex have shown it to be treaties on astrology. Brasseur believed that a word that he read as Mu referred to a land submerged by a catastrophe. Le Plongeon then identified this lost land with Atlantis, and turned it into a continent which had supposedly sunk into the Atlantic Ocean:..

Churchward claimed that more than fifty years prior, while he was a soldier in India, he befriended a high-ranking temple priest who showed him a set of ancient “sunburnt” clay tablets, supposedly in a long lost “Naga-Maya language” which only two other people in India could read. Having mastered the language himself, Churchward found out that they originated from “the place where man first appeared – Mu.” The 1931 edition states that “all matter of science in this work are based on translations of two sets of ancient tablets:” the clay tables he read in India, and a collection 2,500 stone tablets that had been uncovered by William Niven in Mexico.

Churchward gave a vivid description of Mu as the home of an advanced civilization, the Naacal, which flourished between 50,000 and 12,000 years ago, was dominated by a “white race” that was superior in many respects to our own. At the time of its demise, about 12,000 years ago, Mu had 64,000,000 inhabitants and many large cities, and colonies in the other continents.

Churchward claimed that the landmass of Mu was located in the Pacific Ocean, and stretched east-west from the Marianas to Easter Island, and north-south from Hawaii to Mangaia. He claimed that according to the creation myth he read in the Indian tablets, Mu had been lifted above sea level by the expansion of underground volcanic gases. Eventually Mu was completely obliterated in almost a single night after a series of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, “the broken land fell into that great abyss of fire” and was covered by “fifty millions of square miles of water.

Churchward claimed that Mu was the common origin of the great civilizations of Egypt, Greece, Central America, India, Burma and others, including Easter Island, and was in particular the source of ancient megalithic architecture. As evidence for his claims, he pointed to symbols from throughout the world, in which he saw common themes of birds, the relation of the Earth and the sky, and especially the Sun. Churchward claims the king of Mu was Ra and he relates this to the Egyptian god of the sun, Ra, and the Rapanui word for Sun. He claimed to have found symbols of the Sun in Egypt, Babylonia, Peru and all ancient lands and countries – it was a universal symbol.

Churchward attributed all megalithic art in Polynesia to the people of Mu. He claimed that symbols of the sun are found depicted on stones of Polynesian ruins, such as the stone hats (pukao) on top of the giant moai statues of Easter Island. Citing W.J. Johnson, Churchward describes the cylindrical hats as spheres that seem to show red in the distance, and asserts that they represent the Sun as Ra. He also incorrectly claimed that some of them are made of “red sandstone” which does not occur in the island. The platforms on which the statues rest (ahu) are described by Churchward as being platform-like accumulations of cut and dressed stone, which were supposedly left in their current positions awaiting shipment to some other part of the continent for the building of temples and palaces. He also cites the pillars erected by the Maori of New Zealand as an example of this lost civilization’s art work. In Churchward’s view, the present-day Polynesians are not descendants of the dominant members of the lost civilization of Mu, responsible for these great works, but survivors of the cataclysm that adopted the first cannibalism and savagery in the world.

    Churchward’s Books

Volume 1The Lost Continent of Mu set out Churchward’s theory utilizing a “vast knowledge of science, ancient art and history, mythology and the occult” to recreate the splendor and doom of this hidden antediluvian world. Lemuria or Mu was about 5,000 miles long and 3,000 miles wide. The Garden of Eden was not in Asia but on a now sunken continent in the Pacific Ocean. The Biblical story of Creation came first not from the peoples of the Nile or the Euphrates Valley but from this now-submerged continent, Mu – the Motherland of Man…

When ones across the archeological evidence in the areas beig called once belonging to Lemuria, indicate a confirmed Hindu presence and the apread of Tamil culture.

    Kumari Kandam Evidence.

According to Silappadhikaram, one of the Five Great Epics of Tamil Literature written in 2nd century CE, states that the “cruel sea” took the Pandiyan’s land, part of which was present between the rivers Pahruli and the mountainous banks of the Kumari. These rivers are said to have flowed in a now-submerged land.

Adiyarkkunallar, a 12th-century CE commentator on the epic, explains this reference by saying that there was once a land to the south of the present-day Kanyakumari, which stretched for 700 kāvatam from the Pahruli river in the north to the Kumari river in the south.
The modern equivalent of the measurement kāvatam, which is also known as kātam in Tamil, is a distance of 6.25 miles (10.06 km).[

Kanakkathikaram, a 15th century Tamil Mathematical literary work which is in the form of poems, defines the length of 1 kāvatam(1 kātam) as 24,000 muzham(33,000 feet, 6¼ miles) and it also defines the time taken to cover it which is the distance that can be covered by normal walk in 7½ Nāzhigai or 1 Sāmam(equivalent to 3 hours).
So, the distance of 700 kāvatam is equivalent to 4,375 miles (7,041 km) in modern day measurements.

This land was divided into 49 nadu(countries), or territories, which he names as seven coconut territories (elutenga natu), seven Madurai territories (elumaturai natu), seven old sandy territories (elumunpalai natu), seven new sandy territories (elupinpalai natu), seven mountain territories (elukunra natu), seven eastern coastal territories (elukunakarai natu) and seven dwarf-palm territories (elukurumpanai natu).
All these lands, he says, together with the many-mountained land that began with KumariKollam, with forests and habitations, were submerged by the sea.
Two of these Nadus or territories were supposedly parts of present-day Kollam and Kanyakumari districts.

Kalayavana, an Asur(Asura means one who is mighty) who wanted to kill Lord Krishna, was killed by Mucukunda, because of the machinations of Krishna.

Muchukunda turned Kalayavana into ashes by looking at him.

Story given towards the end of the Post.

Muchukunda belongs to the Ikshvaku dynasty.

The Iksvahu Dynasty was founded by Ikshvaku at Kosala.

He is the son of Satyavrata Manu, who migrated from the South because of a Tsunami.

Please read my Post Rama’s ancestor Dravida.

Muchukunda was the son of Mandhata.

    1. Brahma
    2. Marichi
    3. Kashyapa
    4. Vivasvan or Surya
    5. Vaivasvata Manu
    6. Ikshvaku

    10. Anaranya
    11. Prithu
    12. Trishanku
    13. Dhundhumara
    14. Yuvanashva
    15. Mandhata

Muchukunda went to sleep and woke up during Dwapara Yuga, when he killed Kalayavana.

Now let us look at the time factor involved.

If Muchukunda was the ancestor of Rama, who was  37th in Line, while Mandhata was the 15th in the Treta Yuga.

This means that Muchukunda was hibernating between 1.2 Million and 2.59 Million Years because he went to sleep in the Treat Yuga and woke up in the Dwapara Yuga.

    Now,

Life in the universe is created and destroyed once every 4.1 to 8.2 billion years, which is one full day (day and night) for Brahma. The lifetime of a Brahma is believed to be 311 trillion and 40 billion years-Hindu Cosmology.

‘Eighty million years ago, India was approximately 6400 km (3968 miles) south of the Eurasian plate. Separating the two was the Tethys Sea. The Indo-Australian tectonic plate – containing the continent of Australia, the Indian subcontinent, and surrounding ocean – was pushed northward by the convection currents generated in the inner mantle. For millions of years, India made its way across the sea toward the Eurasian plate. As India approached Asia, around 40 million years ago, the Tethys Sea began to shrink and its seabed slowly pushed upwards. The Tethys Sea disappeared completely around 20 million years ago and sediments rising from its seabed formed a mountain range. When India and Tibet collided, instead of descending with the plate, the relatively light sedimentary and metamorphic rock that makes up the subcontinent of India pushed against Tibet, forcing it upwards, and created a massive mountain fold. ‘

    https://ramanisblog.in/2015/03/22/shiva-uma-wedding-agastya-to-south-40-million-years-tectonics-proof/ )

The Great flood happened much before Muchukunda’s time.

The four yugas make up a cycle called divya-yuga, which lasts 4,320,000 years. One thousand of these yugas equal one day of Brahma, which is called a kalpa. Brahma’s lifespan is 100 years of his time.

    That is  432 Million years

Day for Brahma happens for 216 million years.

At the end of the day Pralaya, dissolution of the Universe by Flood happens.

Naimittika Pralaya, which is of 4,320,000,000 earth years, occurs just after the end of a Kalpa. Also, known as the Night of Brahma, it signifies the end of living world.

This implies that The Tamils were in existence in Treta Yuga itself as Muchukunda was alive then.

‘He is remembered in Hindu scriptures as a righteous and glorious king. In some versions, he is the son of Vaivasvata Manu (formerly the Emperor Satyavrata of Dravida), one of the two central characters along with the Lord Matsya incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the Matsya Purana. He is born to Manu after the deluge which sends the King’s ship to the top of the Malaya Mountains in the Dravida country.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikshvaku)

The Malaya Mountains were a range of mountains that were mentioned in the Hindu sacred texts like Matsya Purana, the Kurma Purana, the Vishnu Purana,[1] and the epics of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

The Vishnu Purana specifically mentions it amongst the seven main chains of mountains in Bharata (ancient name of India), namely Mahendra, Malaya, Sahya, Śuktimat, Riksha,Vindhya, and Páripátra.According to the Matsya Purana, during the Great flood, the giant of boat of King Manu was perched after the deluge on the top of the Malaya Mountains.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaya_Mountains

These mountains are believed to have formed the southernmost part (Southwards starting from the Mangalore region) of the Western Ghats, modern day Kerala while the Northern part of the same was called the Sahya Mountains. . The peaks of these Malaya mountains were said to be higher than those of the Sahya Mountains. The Anaimalaiand Nilgiri form some of its higher ranges. Believably in the Ramayana and Mahabharata ages, and later in the period of recorded History, it might have been the junction of theChera and Pandya Kingdoms. Sangam Literature calls these mountains Pothigai.

    Muchukunda.

Seeing him, KAlyavana came out filled with happiness. Seeing Krishna before him, the strong one followed him.

    39. The lord of the Yavanas followed Govinda with the desire of capturing him, but he could not seize that great yoga-adept.

    40. The celebrated and powerful king, Muchukunda, son of MAndhAtA, achieved great success in the battle between Devas and Asuras in the ancient times.

    41. When the gods requested him to ask for a boon, he accepted sleep. He was extremely tired, and so the following words emerged from his mouth.

    42. O gods! I will burn the person who wakes me up, with my eyes blazing with anger,” and he kept saying it again and again.

    43. So, Shakra and the other gods said, So be it. Then he took permission of the gods and came to the king of the mountains.

    44. The very tired king entered one of the caves and kept sleeping till the time he saw Krishna.

    45. O king! NArada had told VAsudeva all about the boon he had received from the gods and his power.

    46. Krishna, followed by that mleccha enemy, entered Muchukunda’s cave like a very humble person.

    47. The intelligent Keshava stood near the head of the royal sage, Muchukunda, carefully avoiding the path of his vision.

    48. The Yavana entered and saw the lord of the earth, sleeping and radiant like KritAnta (death). Then that most wicked one went towards him.

    49. He, assuming the king to be VAsudeva, spurned him with his feet, just as the insect jumps into fire, bringing his own destruction.

    50. The royal sage, Muchukunda, woke up on being kicked. He was very angry for being woken up and also for being touched by the feet.

    51. Then, remembering the boon given by Shakra, he looked at him standing before him. As soon as he looked at him angrily, he burnt up entirely.

    52. The fire erupting from the eyes of Muchukunda burned KAlayavana in a moment, just as lightning burns down a dry tree.

  • Poompuhar Find Sets Tamil,Hinduism By Atleast 20000 Years

Recently I wrote an article stating that 11000 Years Old Tamil Port Poompuhar confirms Manu Migration.

Reaction to this post has been amazing and I have been asked to elaborate further as this is a very serious issue concerning the Dates of Tamil and Sanatana Dharma.

    Poompuhar remains underwater.jpg.
    Poompuhar remains underwater.

I am normally regarded as being Parochial to Hinduism Sanatana Dharma and called as one who is against Tamil.

I am neither,I simply produce evidence as they are.

The Tamil sites who have been calling me names have now been sending mails to me requesting to publish more articles on the antiquity of Tamil!

This after my recent articles on Tamil and Sanskrit.

Well I shall continue to write facts as they are available, relying more on Indian Literature ,Epigraphy, Linguistics rather than some big fancy Names of self-styled Indologists.

Now on the find of the material being dated 11000 Years  sets the Tamil History and the Sanatana Dharma back at least by 20,000 years.https://youtu.be/Vi6IJbZe2YE

But the Tamil Sangams are dated at

“that the first two of which were held in cities since “taken by the sea”, and the third of which was held during the 5th century BC in the present-day city of Madurai.'(wiki).

Silappadikaram  has been dated to likely belong to the beginning of Common era.

The incidence of Kovalan Madhavi and Kannagi took place in the same period as the poet who wrote the Tamil Epic was the brother of the Chera King Cheran Senguttuvan.

However the recent finding placed these dates to 11000 years back!

But we are assigning Tamil Sangam at 500 BC and Rig veda at 5000 BC!

    Sundaland Image.bmp
    Sundaland.

Sundaland was a cluster of islands in South consisted of Malay peninsula, Java, Sumatra, Borneo and other surrounding areas.

The recent developments in sea level research done by Glenn Milne and Graham Hancock have shown that these islands were not islands but were connected as a huge land mass some 22,000 years ago.

‘The sea level was lower than now by approximately 150 meters thereby offering a good expanse of land for mankind to thrive. This region is a centre of attraction for researchers because this is the “closest area” for early man from east Africa who moved out eastward around one lakh years ago…

    Exposed Land Mass of Sundaland.image.png
    Exposed Land Mass of Sundaland

The light shades around the continents show the extent of exposed landmass at an earlier time when sea level was low due to Ice Age. The red circle shows the ‘Sundaland’ which now looks fractured into islands. The migration of man as revealed in genetic studies show that mankind stayed on for thousands of years  somewhere in the Indian Ocean. Currently Indian Ocean, south off India shows no sign of landmass. But with the discovery of Sundaland, there is increased interest in finding out whether it offered habitation for early man.

How this Landmass was destroyed,By A Volcano.

A New study provides “incontrovertible evidence” that the volcanic super-eruption of Toba on the island of Sumatra about 73,000 years ago deforested much of central India, some 3,000 miles from the epicenter, researchers report.a The volcano ejected an estimated 800 cubic kilometers of ash into the atmosphere, leaving a crater (now the world’s largest volcanic lake) that is 100 kilometers long and 35 kilometers wide. Ash from the event has been found in India, the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea.
