It may be a record month forphone hackings, and even the Taliban isn’t safe.

A Taliban spokesman said Wednesday that despite the circulation of phone and Internet messages claiming the group’s one-eyed, bearded, most-wanted leader Mullah Omar had died, Omar was still very much alive.

“He is overseeing operations in the country,” Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told the Associated Press. “Outsiders must have hacked into Taliban phones and the Web site.”

Thankfully, Mujahid did not blame Rupert Murdoch’s now-closed tabloid News of the World for the hacking, instead saying U.S. intelligence agencies had pulled the stunt “to demoralize the Taliban.”

Phone Hacking UK-David Cameron Parliament Address -Live.
Prime Minister David Cameron will address the phone-hacking scandal rattling the foundations of the British press, police and political establishments in a special session of Parliament Wednesday, hours after lawmakers slammed Rupert Murdoch’s News International and the police.

Parliament’s Home Affairs committee “deplored” obstruction by News International when lawmakers first tried to probe accusations of illegal eavesdropping by journalists working for Murdoch, and criticized police for failing to investigate the case properly.

The committee’s report does not mention either Murdoch by name.

Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard also weighed in on the controversy Wednesday, saying the Australian arm of Murdoch’s empire, News Ltd., had “hard questions” to answer.

“When there has been a major discussion overseas, when people have seen telephones hacked into, when people have seen individuals grieving have to deal with all of this, then I do think that causes us to ask some questions here in our country,” Gillard said.

• BSkyB – can he assure the house the bid was not raised in any of his meetings with News Corp figures? Did he discuss it with the culture secretary?

• Coulson – Miliband runs through warnings about Coulson that Cameron has received or could have received, and media coverage such as the New York Times investigation into phone hacking. Why did Ed Llewellyn turn down the offer of a police briefing? Because the PM was compromised – “he was hamstrung by a conflict of interest”. Why did alarm bells not ring in Cameron’s office.

News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch and his son James, the News International chairman earlier faced the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.

It is made up of chairman John Whittingdale (JV), Therese Coffey (TC), Damian Collins (DC), Philip Davies (PD), Paul Farrelly (PF), Alan Keen (AK), Louise Mensch (LM), Adrian Sanders (AS), Jim Sheridan (JS) and Tom Watson (TW).

Rupert Murdoch is referred to as RM and his son James JM. Rebekah Brooks is referred to as RB.

JM: It is a matter of great regret, my father’s, and everybody at News Corp and these are standards that these actions do not live up to, the standards that our company tries to live up to all around the world.

JM: It is our intention to put these things right, to make sure they don’t happen again.

RM: This is most humble day of my life.

News of The World Closes.What about Corrupt Journalists and Media in India?
It shows the world what irresponsible journalism can do to an old news paper.

The line between responsible and the irresponsible journalism is very thin.

In this case it is outright greed for money and sensation mongering.

However investigative journalism may have to break laws at times,as in the case of the Document submitted to the Joint Parliamentary Committee found its way into Times Now News Channel in its pursuit of nailing the corrupt in 2G Scam.

It is obvious that the document which was submitted by the Finance Ministry on July 7th was aired on 7th July,could not have been obtained by legal means.

When the transgression is severe the chase is also likely to be by devious and unlawful route.

On the other hand ,what about Burkha Dutt,Virsanghivi ,who among others, have confabulated with Nira Radia fixing Cabinet berths in India?

The British Media has welcomed the move to shut down News of the World.

What about the Indian Counter parts on these transgressing journalists?

Is Indian Media really Free?
