  • How To Light A Lamp Why

    It is the practice of Hindu house holds to light a Lamp at Dawn and Dusk.

    Our Ignorance prevents us from realizing that we a part of the Reality , we believe and trust that we are the body(Dehatma Buddhi), identify ourselves

     

    with things that are temporary,get entangled in world affairs unnecessarily, become miserable forgetting that we a part of the Supreme Realty, The

     

    Brahman ,whose Nature is being, Consciousness and Bliss.

     

    When the Light of knowledge dawns to dispel away the  Darkness, as the Lighting of a lamp does away with Darkness, we realize our true Nature.

     

    To symbolize this we light a  lamp with wicks.

     

    The lamp should be lit both at dawn and dusk.

     

    Preferable that a Lamp with five faces are used and all the five wicks are lit.

     

    A lamp with a single wick should be used.

     

    The wick should be made of cotton,

     

    Of late I have noticed the tendency of lighting two wicks.

     

    This is not the tradition.

     

    Generally lighting or doing anything in even number is considered inauspicious.

     

    Two always denotes conflict and resultant choice making makes life difficult.

     

    Where as One signifies the ultimate Reality Brahman and Five, the Panchabutas nad Five Tanmatras.

     

    If a single wick is lit, it should face either the East or North.

     

    The Lamp should be adorned with Kumkum and Sandalwood paste.

     

    A flower may be kept at the base of the Lamp.

     

    The practice of keeping the flower at the top of Lamp is not recommended as it is likely to wither because of Heat.

     

    Generally Gingelly oil is to be used.

     

    Use of other oils  or other oils Ghee on daily basis is not recommended.

     

    Using Ghee rewards less than Gingelly oil.

     

    As to using other oils like a combination of five oils is a later pa practice .

     

    The light may be it by the lady of the house.

     

    Lighting by candle or by a Man is not recommended.

     

    Only the head of the house  Gruhalakshmi should light the lamp.

     

    The lamp must be lit after taking  bath, if there was  Physical contact between husband and wife.

     

    Otherwise it can be lit after washing teeth and face .

     

    The following Mantra is to be recited.

     

    Whilst lighting the lamp we thus pray:
    Deepajyothi parabrahma
    Deepa sarva tamopahaha
    Deepena saadhyate saram
    Sandhyaa deepo namostute

    I prostrate to the dawn/dusk lamp; whose light is the Knowledge Principle (the
    Supreme Lord), which removes the darkness of ignorance and by which all can be
    achieved in life.

     

    Afte daily pooja is completed, the lamp may be doused with  a piece of Flower dipped in milk, after applying Kumkum to the Lamp.

  • The Signs Of Death Hinduism

    There are signs of death.

    Indications are there to know that Death  is nearing, though none can predict the time and date.

    Medical science is as approximate as the predictions are.

    However I have seen some signs which definitely foretell death.

    They are more accurate than Medical predictions.

    I have post an article on this earlier along with the Death Chant of the Hindus.

    Normal symptoms are.

    Arundhati Star
    Vaishista and Arundhati Star in Ursa Major

    Ears will become useless.

    Then there will be abnormal sweating, not to be confused with sweating and palpitation associated with heart attack.

    Virtually no appetite.

    Motion will be scant, if any.

    Difficulty in recognizing people, place.

    Disorientation of Space.

    One may notice the person to whom death is approaching they would stare at space.

    In many an instance, they would also tell you they are seeing people, especially the dead.

    They would be able to remember their childhood memories child hood friends, friends,but not children, wife.

    Then eyesight will go.

    Breathing will be deep  but will deteriorate into  short gasps.

    There will be a whistling sound when breathing takes place.

    Once people start breathing deeply when awake, it is the custom of the Hindus to take the person and place him in the veranda.

    This is called ‘Razhiyil Poduthal’, indicating  that the end is near, say in a day or two at the most.

    relatives will be informed.

    There are some indications specified in the Purans about the impending death.

    I am not sure how accurate they are.

    But the indications I have described are found to be correct,

    Signs of Death.

    One will die if He /She,

    1.In one year, if one can not can not see the Star Arundhati or  ‘ the star Alcor which forms a double star with Mizar (identified as Vashista Maharshi  in Ursa Major and or The Pole Star.

    2.Can not see the rays of the Sun in Eleven Months.

    3.Dreams that he / she vomits Gold/Silver in ten Months.

    4.Sees dirty feet in dreams, in less than ten months.

    5.Sees a Crow crying or a Dove landing on one’s head, in six months.

    6.If crows or Ashes surround one, in Five Months.

    7.Sees rainbow in the South or Lightning in the South, in three months.

    8.Can not their reflection in water or Mirror, in one moth.

    9.Smells like a corpse, in fifteen days.

    10.Dreams as being dragged by Bear or Monkey towards the South, become deaf,or seen wearing black clothes,,buried up to neck,Coal,Ashes, will die shortly.

    11.If wolves howl in the early morning,when one can not smell the odor when the Oil Lamp is put off,shall die shortly.

    I have listed a few of the symptoms found in the Brahmanda Purana.

    கும்பகோணம்: திருநாகேஸ்வரம் அருகே தேப்பெருமாநல்லூரில் நல்லபாம்பு அர்ச்சனை செய்த விஸ்வநாதசுவாமி கோவிலில் அம்பாள் சன்னதியில் அணைந்து, அணைந்து தானாக மீண்டும் எரிந்த தீபத்தை கண்டு பக்தர்கள் பரவசமடைந்தனர்.தஞ்சை மாவட்டம் திருநாகேஸ்வரம் அருகே தேப்பெருமாநல்லூரில் வேதாந்தநாயகி சமேத விஸ்வநாதசுவாமி கோவில் உள்ளது. இங்கு விஸ்வநாதசுவாமிக்கு ருத்ராட்சத்தால் மட்டுமே அர்ச்சனை நடப்பது சிறப்பு. விசுவநாதசுவாமியை வழிபடுவதால் மறுபிறவி கிடையாது என புராணம் கூறுகிறது.கடந்தாண்டு ஜனவரி 15ம் தேதி சூரிய கங்கண கிரகணம் நடக்கும் முன் காலை 10.30 மணிக்கு நல்லபாம்பு விசுவநாதசுவாமியின் மேல் இருப்பதை கோவில் சிவாச்சாரியார் சதீஷ் கண்டார். பாம்பு சுவாமியின் மேலிருந்து இறங்கி நேராக தலவிருட்சம் வில்வமரத்துக்கு சென்றது. அங்கு மரத்தில் ஏறி வில்வஇலையை பறித்துக்கொண்டு மீண்டும் சுவாமி சன்னதிக்குள் வந்தது. பின்னால் வந்தவர்களை பார்த்து சீறியது. பின் நேராக சுவாமியின் மேல் ஏறி தலையில் அமர்ந்து படம் எடுத்தவாறு சுவாமியின் மீது வில்வ இலையை இட்டது.

    இது அனைவரையும் மெய்சிலிர்க்க வைத்தது.இதுபோல் இரண்டு, மூன்று முறை இவ்வாறாக செய்தது. இத்தகவல் பரவியதும் கிராமமக்கள் முழுவதும் கோவிலுக்கு வந்து நல்லபாம்பை பார்த்து சுவாமியை தரிசனம் செய்தனர். இதுபற்றி கோவில் சிவாச்சாரியார் சதீஷ்குருக்கள் மற்றும் பிரகாஷ் குருக்கள் அப்போது கூறுகையில், “”ஒவ்வொரு கிரகணத்தின் போதும் தன் சாபத்தை போக்கிக்கொள்ள பாம்பு வந்து வில்வத்தால் விசுவநாதசுவாமியை அர்ச்சித்து வருகிறது. இதுவரை நம் கண்ணில் படவில்லை. இன்று தான் நேரில் கண்டுள்ளோம்,” என்றனர்.இந்நிலையில், கோவில் திருப்பணி வேலைகள் நடந்து வருகிறது. நேற்று முன்தினம் இக்கோவிலின் திருப்பணி உபயதாரர் கனடாவை சேர்ந்த ஜெனித்தா, அம்பாள் சன்னதியில் 11 சுமங்கலிகள், ஏழு கன்னிப்பெண்களை வரவழைத்து வேதாந்தநாயகி அம்பாள் சன்னதியில் சுமங்கலி பூஜை, கன்னிகா பூஜை செய்தார். முன்னதாக சுவாமி, அம்பாளுக்கு சிறப்பு அபிஷேகம், புஷ்பலங்காரம் நடந்தது.பின், சுமங்கலிகள், கன்னிப்பெண்களுக்கு புத்தாடைகள் வழங்கினர். மதியம் உணவு வழங்கப்பட்டது. நேற்று காலை கோவிலுக்கு சென்ற பக்தர் அம்பாள் வேதாந்தநாயகி சன்னதியில் தீபம் அணைவதும், பின் தானாக எரிவதுமான நிகழ்வை கண்டு ஆச்சர்யமடைந்தார். கோவில் அர்ச்சகர் சதீஷ் சிவாச்சாரியாரை அழைத்து வந்து, “”எனக்கு தான் பார்வை சரியாக தெரியவில்லையா. நீங்கள் பாருங்கள்,” என்றார்.

    அப்போது தீபம் அணைவதும், மீண்டும் தானாக எரிவதுமாக இருந்துள்ளது.அதற்குள் அக்கம்பக்கம் தகவல் பரவியதும் தேப்பெருமாநல்லூர் மக்கள் திரளானோர் கோவிலுக்கு படை எடுத்தனர். அவர்களும் தீபம் அணைந்து எரிவதை பார்த்து அம்பாளை தரிசித்தனர். இந்நிகழ்வு காலை ஏழு முதல் ஒன்பது மணி வரை நடந்தது. இந்த அதிசயம் நடந்த கோவிலுக்கு அம்பாளை காண சுற்றுப்புற மக்களும் வந்த வண்ணம் உள்ளனர்.
